“Honored Healer, the chieftain of the Dashi Tribe wants to see you,” Sindorei said.
Qi Shaorong looked up at Sindorei, full of confusion. “The chieftain of the Dashi Tribe wants to see me? Why?”
“Probably wants you to treat his people. The Dashi Tribe was attacked by beasts and had to travel a long distance in the middle of winter. Many of them are sick now, especially the females,” Sindorei explained.
Qi Shaorong tilted his head and rolled his eyes, muttering, “Why does everyone treat me like I’m some benevolent saint? If I’d known this would happen, I wouldn’t have said I eloped and ended up here. I should’ve just said I caused the death of all the females in my tribe and fled here.”
Sindorei: “…”
After a brief hesitation, Sindorei added, “The chieftain of the Dashi Tribe said he would offer compensation.”
“What kind of compensation?” Qi Shaorong asked.
“Blood Spirit Beads,” Sindorei replied.
Qi Shaorong looked at him. “Blood Spirit Beads? What do those do?”
“They replenish blood and energy—great stuff! Almost the same effect as Half-Moon Lotus. If it weren’t a desperate situation, that chieftain probably wouldn’t offer them,” Sindorei said.
Qi Shaorong raised an eyebrow. “That’s strange.”
“Strange how?” Sindorei asked.
“If those beads are really as valuable as you say, then the Dashi chieftain could’ve just used them to request help from the Feihu Tribe. The Feihu chieftain wouldn’t refuse, would he?” Qi Shaorong said.
Sindorei thought for a moment. “Maybe the Dashi chieftain doesn’t trust the Feihu chieftain.”
Qi Shaorong narrowed his eyes. “Is that so? He doesn’t trust Feihu’s leader, but he trusts me?”
Sindorei nodded. “That’s not so strange. Xinli’s reputation is awful. That old bastard is selfish and not a good person.”
Qi Shaorong looked skeptical. “If Xinli’s reputation is bad, mine isn’t exactly glowing either, is it?”
Sindorei chuckled. “Healer, your reputation isn’t great either. But in the Feihu Tribe, they only say you’re ‘flirtatious,’ not that you’re heartless. Anyone with eyes can see you’re a good person. You healed my brother, Raymond, and Laoqi…”
Qi Shaorong: “…”
Qi Shaorong took a deep breath. “Fine. I’ve got nothing better to do anyway. Might as well earn some extra cash. They’re bringing the patients here, right?”
Sindorei shook his head. “They probably want you to go in person.”
“I even have to do house calls now?” Qi Shaorong said, speechless.
He scratched his head and thought: I finally made something of myself in the magical world, and now I’m back to square one.
“The Dashi Tribe doesn’t have many warriors left. There are still a lot of females though. But you know this is eagle territory. We’ve killed quite a few eagles to improve our meals, but plenty still remain—and they love eating females,” Sindorei added.
Qi Shaorong rubbed his forehead and sighed. “Alright, I’ll make the trip.”
Sindorei looked at him and smiled. “I knew you were a good man. The Dashi Tribe really is in a terrible state now.”
Qi Shaorong curled his lips. “I’m not a good man—I’m just bored. Back in the day, I had way more pride.”
“Chieftain, should we ask that ritual apprentice for help?” Bill of the Dashi Tribe asked.
The Dashi chieftain sighed. “Many in our tribe are sick. Our own priest died in that previous disaster. We can only hope that apprentice can help now.”
Bill frowned. “Actually, if we offered the Blood Spirit Beads to the Feihu chieftain…”
“No. The Feihu chieftain isn’t a decent person. Just look at what happened to the descendants of the people who joined his tribe—they were all sent on dangerous missions, and none came back,” the chieftain replied.
“But that ritual apprentice… his background is kind of murky,” Bill said.
The chieftain frowned slightly. “He’s our only hope now.”
“I heard he eloped from his original tribe,” Bill said.
The chieftain just smiled casually. “I don’t care why he left his tribe. As long as he can heal our people, that’s all that matters.”
Bill looked toward the snowy distance. “Chieftain, someone’s coming.”
“It’s Fred. So the rumors from the Feihu Tribe were true—Fred is now a three-star Totem Warrior, and Sindorei is a Totem Warrior too,” the chieftain said. When he’d first heard the rumors, he hadn’t believed them.
The Dashi chieftain watched Fred approaching from afar and thought: The Feihu chieftain is a fool. If I had talents like this in my tribe, I’d do everything to keep them—not push them out.
Sindorei walked up to the chieftain and introduced, “This is the healer. He’s really capable.”
“Honored Healer, thank you so much for making the trip,” the chieftain said respectfully, bowing to Qi Shaorong.
Qi Shaorong gave a faint smile. “No need for formalities, Chieftain.”
The chieftain of the Dashishi Tribe wore a face full of worry. A few warriors who came out to welcome them glanced at Qi Shaorong with a look of doubt.
Qi Shaorong touched his own face and thought to himself, My face looks too young, they probably think I’m not reliable.
Qi Shaorong entered the cave for a look. Due to poor ventilation and the presence of many people, the cave was filled with a strange smell.
Inside, he saw many frightened females. Many of them showed signs of fever, and several warriors were visibly wounded.
Qi Shaorong glanced at Mu Tingxuan and said, “There seem to be quite a few people suffering from cold syndrome. Boil some ginger soup for them to drive away the chill.”
Mu Tingxuan nodded. “Alright.”
Qi Shaorong then settled into a different cave next to the Dashishi Tribe’s temporary quarters.
Looking at the blood spirit pearl in his hand, Qi Shaorong said, “The chieftain of the Dashishi Tribe has some sense after all!”
Mu Tingxuan nodded. “Yes, he does.”
Qi Shaorong gave Mu Tingxuan a sidelong glance and said, “Since they’re being so respectful, I guess I shouldn’t slack off either. Looks like I’ll be busy.”
Mu Tingxuan shrugged. “Young Master, you have my sympathies.”
…
“Chieftain, you just handed the blood spirit pearl over to that priest apprentice like that? Is that really alright?” Bill asked.
“I don’t think that priest apprentice has a bad heart, and he’s quite capable. A few of the feverish females in the tribe have already started to recover.”
Bill frowned and said with difficulty, “The blood spirit pearl was basically the last of our tribe’s possessions.”
The chieftain replied helplessly, “There are so many injured in the tribe—if you’re not willing to risk anything, you won’t gain anything either!”
After receiving his payment, Qi Shaorong could be said to work with full dedication. Under his treatment, the people of the Dashishi Tribe gradually recovered.
Seeing this, the chieftain secretly let out a sigh of relief.
Fred had hunted a flying eagle and gifted it to the chieftain, who gratefully said, “Thank you, Fred. If it weren’t for your brothers’ help, even if our warriors recovered, they’d probably starve.”
Fred smiled lightly. “Everyone has emergencies. No need to thank me.”
“Fred, your strength is truly impressive. The Flying Tiger Tribe’s chieftain must be kicking himself for losing such a powerful warrior,” the chieftain laughed.
“Well, not necessarily,” Fred thought to himself. The Flying Tiger chieftain was always wary of me. If I had stayed in the tribe, he probably wouldn’t have had a peaceful day.
The chieftain noticed Fred’s expression and silently thought, Fred must have deep resentment toward the Flying Tiger Tribe.
…
Flying Tiger Tribe.
“Chieftain, it seems the Dashishi Tribe people have thrown in their lot with Fred and his group,” Jesse said.
Xinli responded with clear displeasure, “Those people actually defected to that shameless priest apprentice. I really don’t understand what they’re thinking.”
Xinli hadn’t refused the Dashishi Tribe’s request because he didn’t want to help, but because he wanted to leave them hanging for a bit to gain better bargaining power. After all, there were so many females in the Dashishi Tribe, and Xinli had been quite greedy about that.
Jesse looked at Xinli and asked, “Chieftain, what should we do now?”
“Are the Dashishi people currently in the forest area where Fred used to live?” Xinli asked.
Jesse nodded. “Yes.”
Xinli gritted his teeth and fell into deep thought. The snow was falling harder—this wasn’t a good time to leave the tribe. Taking a deep breath, he finally realized that his tribe lacked experts. Fred and the others really were quite powerful.
After weighing the pros and cons, Xinli decided to take a few people to scout out the Dashishi Tribe’s current base.
…
Dashishi Tribe.
Several females gathered around, boiling meat soup. With Fred and Xindore helping out, and patients recovering, the tribe wasn’t struggling too much with food anymore.
All things considered, the Dashishi Tribe was doing okay.
When Xinli arrived with a few warriors, he saw a bustling scene in the Dashishi Tribe.
The chieftain frowned slightly when he saw Xinli and said, “Chieftain Xinli, what brings you here?”
Xinli smiled and said, “Earlier, you and your tribe left in such a rush. I felt quite bad about it afterward, so I came to check on you.”
The chieftain smiled and replied, “The issues have been resolved. Our tribe’s wounded have all recovered.”
“All recovered?” Xinli asked with a frown.
The chieftain smiled. “We got lucky and met a benefactor.” Earlier, when he went to the Flying Tiger Tribe, he had sought help from their priest, but that priest had acted arrogantly and claimed he was too busy, so the chieftain returned empty-handed.
Looking at the chieftain, Xinli forced a smile and said, “Is that so?”
