Ling Ruoxi almost wanted to kick Luo Mingyu off the carriage, but fearing she would fall too, she instinctively tightened her grip on his hand and raised an eyebrow. “Why do you say ‘wash up and sleep’? I remember reading in a book about a creature called a fox. It’s really powerful and supposedly has nine lives!”
“Hmm? Nine lives?” Luo Mingyu’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he raised an eyebrow. “Describe it to me. What does it look like?”
“Just like you—upturned eyes, fluffy all over, a tail that sometimes splits into nine, like that Lightning Weasel we saw earlier. Four legs, very cute!” She recalled the foxes she had seen in the zoo—their snow-white fur and determined eyes had always been her favorite. But above all, she loved wolves. Wolves she had never seen in zoos or circuses before!
However, on Dragon Continent, wolves were cheap and common. Ling Ruoxi even suspected they weren’t real wolves but mutated huskies! She could never see that familiar look in their eyes.
“That thing… is a bit like a Sacred Lynx. But there’s only one on this continent, and it’s already bonded to its master. No chance to see it now.” Luo Mingyu tapped her nose teasingly, smiling proudly. “If you want to see a Sacred Lynx, I can show you.”
“Really? But you said it already chose a master. How could you…” Ling Ruoxi nearly bit her tongue. Her expression darkened as she grabbed Luo Mingyu’s waist. “Are you… the master of the Sacred Lynx?”
“Is there anything wrong with that? I made a contract with it when I was young. You want it now, I can’t give it to you. But my friends are your friends. If you want to see it, I can…”
“I want it!” Before he could finish, the man hovering above froze, his eyes locking onto a silver figure running ahead. His gaze shone with excitement!
It was an injured young silver wolf. Its fur was matted with blood, and a tiger chased it from behind. Sunlight glinted off its silver-white coat, and its black eyes were full of hatred. Even when knocked down by the tiger, the little silver wolf bit the tiger’s arm fiercely, refusing to let go.
Survival instinct drove it—it had to live!
“It’s just a little silver wolf. No real combat power. Silver wolves are the weakest of the wolf-type magical beasts. Cute, yes, but useless…”
“Save it! I’m taking it!”
“Fine, fine!” In front of her, Luo Mingyu could only raise his hands in surrender. Purple Dou Qi flared, and the two figures as light as red fur shot forward, sending the tiger flying over ten meters.
“Roar!” The tiger, furious at the unexpected interference, instantly lost its anger. Purple Dou Qi danced around the man, exuding an aura of danger.
The tiger didn’t dare linger—it fled. As much as it wanted to devour the pup, it had no choice but to retreat.
“Little wolf, are you okay?” Ling Ruoxi asked, looking at the silver wolf lying on the ground. Its fur had been torn, revealing pink flesh beneath. Its body bore the marks of battle, even three claws were broken.
Panting, the silver wolf raised its fur, making a defensive stance, its eyes fixed on Ling Ruoxi with reluctant defiance. It clawed the ground but couldn’t stand.
“All right, I’ll help you heal.” Ling Ruoxi pulled out bandages and simple powders from her storage ring, sitting on the ground and taking the wolf’s paw in her hands.
But the fierce wolf used its last strength, its sharp claws slicing down her arm.
“Shh!” Blood gushed out. Before she could react, Luo Mingyu grew anxious, almost stomping on the silver wolf.
Purple Dou Qi surged, healing her wrist instantly. “You foolish woman! This silver wolf is the lowest of the low. Why do you want it? I’ll fix it for you…”
“No! Wolves are like this—they attack when they meet an enemy, never give up. Even if it means fighting to the death, it’ll bite you last and die with you!” Her eyes sparkled with determination as she cleaned the wolf’s wounds with bandages and ointment.
Luo Mingyu couldn’t help feeling jealous. When had he ever cared so much for a woman? And now she was all focused on a wolf, holding it even while it was unconscious, without once hugging him.
For three days straight, Ling Ruoxi tended to the silver wolf, even sleeping with it, leaving Luo Mingyu utterly frustrated.
Finally…
“Hey, little white dog, I warn you. If you lay a paw on my woman, I’ll chop off your hands and legs and see how you fight me!” Luo Mingyu grabbed the wolf’s ears, glaring at the silver wolf sprawled on the bed—his bed!
The proud wolf ignored him, turning its head disdainfully, black eyes sizing him up.
Luo Mingyu’s lips twitched in frustration. He wanted to rip off its ears! The wolf, though a beast, was male, and it had even taken over his woman.
Thinking quickly, he glanced around and smiled. “Perfect. Ruoxi went to buy meat. I’ll toss this greedy, lustful wolf outside and see how it dares compete with me for a woman!”
The injured silver wolf half-opened its eyes, still weak. Luo Mingyu carefully picked it up, moving stealthily to the window. He paused. “Wait, why go out the window? Wouldn’t going out the front be easier?”
Just then, another figure appeared, carrying two pieces of meat toward them. Luo Mingyu’s hairs stood on end. Without hesitation, he stepped on the stool and ran outside, making sure Ruoxi didn’t see him. She had treated the silver wolf like her child these past few days—he couldn’t risk being caught.
“Little White, I cooked you two pieces of meat—best pork shank tendon, very chewy, plus a marrow bone… Little White!” The person entering the room froze, eyes wide. The room no longer contained the familiar figure.
“Luo Mingyu, you little brat, come out right now!”
Luo Mingyu tossed the silver wolf into the abandoned temple and pulled a tattered cloth over it. “Hey, I mean no harm. Your woman treats you too well—I can’t stand it. Once you heal, leave. Don’t stay here. You’re just a silver wolf, not worthy of my woman.”
Shaking his head, Luo Mingyu placed his hand on the wolf’s hind leg. Purple Dou Qi enveloped it completely.
The silver wolf, lying on the ground, felt the Dou Qi coursing through it, healing its wounds.
Moments later, Luo Mingyu withdrew his hand, frowning. “Your injuries are worse than I thought. That tiger even injured your inner core. Strange… how did a wolf this young even have an inner core?”
He touched its head, puzzled, finding no answer. Magical beasts having an inner core was normal, but this silver wolf’s core was unusually strong. Since it was injured, he dared not investigate further, for fear of harming it.
“Listen carefully. You don’t like humans anyway, so don’t come back. If you do, I’ll toss you overseas!” Luo Mingyu pinched the wolf’s ear and headed outside.
His timing was perfect. If Ling Ruoxi had noticed, he’d be in serious trouble.
“Luo Mingyu!” Her voice echoed. The man exiting the abandoned temple froze, face pale, forcing a faint smile. “Ruoxi, what is it?”
“What do you mean, what is it? Where’s my Little White? Did you hide it?” She grabbed his clothes, sniffing. “Don’t lie—you smell like Little White, and there’s fur on you!”
“You dog nose! How come I didn’t smell it?” He lifted his shirt, sniffing himself, raising an eyebrow at her.
He had ensured the wolf’s safety, surrounding himself with Dou Qi to mask its presence.
Ling Ruoxi frowned. “Then tell me, what were you sneaking here for? And when you weren’t around, Little White disappeared. If not you, then who?”
“Hey, hey, why blame me again? How should I know about Little White? I just went out for some sun. Besides, when you left, I was outside, didn’t come back!” Luo Mingyu said hastily, though a bit guilty. He had waited for her to leave before retrieving the wolf from the temple.
If she had walked a few steps inside, she would have found the wolf, and he’d have had no defense.
