“So serious!” Ye Ningfeng’s hands trembled. He hadn’t expected things to have escalated this far. His face darkened as he gripped the teacup tightly.
Ye Hua continued after a nod, “There is something else the young master does not know regarding Miss Ling. It was personally told to me by the medic.”
“Oh? What is it?” Hearing it concerned Ling Ruoxi, Ye Ningfeng immediately focused on him.
Ye Hua frowned slightly, his tone indifferent. “While examining Miss Ling’s injuries, the medic discovered that during childbirth her body was severely harmed. Both children were born naturally, and she nearly died. Under Left Medic’s care, she survived—but as a result, she lost the ability to bear children. That means both Crown Princess Ling Huiru and Miss Ling Ruoxi are infertile. Yizhui and Yimeng, those two children, are more important than anything for Miss Ling.”
Ye Ningfeng’s body trembled. He gripped the teacup tightly, finally realizing the gravity of the situation. His heart raced as he quickly set the cup down. “Ye Hua, how likely is this… are the two children still alive?”
“If the abduction was truly by Crown Princess Ling Huiru, then the children must still be alive. Her aim in kidnapping them is merely to torment Miss Ling. But I cannot guess why she would take such a risk—unless someone is supporting her.” Ye Hua’s eyes flashed coldly. If that were true, the matter would be far more complicated to handle.
Regaining composure, Ye Hua looked at Ye Ningfeng. “However, with Young Master Luo Mingyu present, Miss Ling will not suffer. As long as the Young Master intervenes, Ling Huiru will be forced to return the children.”
“Not necessarily.” Ye Ningfeng shook his head, recalling Ling Ruoxi’s attitude toward Luo Mingyu earlier. He sighed. “It seems Ruoxi argued with the Young Master, and it was serious. He hasn’t appeared since the first day. With him hiding, we have no idea where he is. The chances of getting his help are almost zero.”
“In that case, this is difficult,” Ye Hua admitted, shaking his head helplessly. Then he suddenly stiffened, staring ahead.
A thin figure stood in the doorway, eyes gleaming sharply, coldly fixing their gaze on the two men.
“Ruoxi, you…” Even Ye Ningfeng froze. Just moments ago, her injuries were severe, yet after a brief conversation, she now appeared almost healed.
Even a Dou Qi cultivator couldn’t recover that fast—and she had no Dou Qi at all!
Stepping forward with measured calm, Ling Ruoxi clenched her fists. Her black eyes were like blades, piercing Ye Hua’s heart. “I ask you, is what you just said true? Were Yizhui and Yimeng really kidnapped by that vile Ling Huiru?”
Her icy voice echoed, unlike the usual Ling Ruoxi. It radiated a murderous aura, one that crushed all attempts at breath. The blend of anger and killing intent pressed down on them, leaving them gasping.
That aura came from a bloodlust so intense, it required countless killings to achieve such eyes and presence. The killing intent alone was terrifying enough.
So strong. Cold sweat ran down Ye Hua’s forehead. Mechanically, he shook his head. “No… we’re only speculating. Miss Ling, you’re exhausted—please rest first…”
“No need. I’ve treated my injuries with the Poison Sutra. They’re fine now.” If she hadn’t secretly left the room, she’d still be in the dark.
If Ling Huiru truly kidnapped her children, she would leave no Ling family member alive—none!
Sensing her dangerous aura, Ye Hua quickly stepped in front of her. “Miss Ling, we don’t care what you intend to do, but remember—this is Bei Ning Kingdom. Two fists cannot fight four hands. You have no Dou Qi, no evidence, no leads. Acting on conjecture and harming others means making enemies of the entire kingdom… and of us.”
“Enemies of you?” Clenching her fists, Ling Ruoxi stared at Ye Ningfeng. He was the first man she had seen in this world. She rarely learned about him, only knowing he served Nangong Mo.
If she ignored Nangong Mo, clearly Ye Ningfeng would intervene. If Ling Huiru had kidnapped Yizhui and Yimeng, she would go straight to the palace—inevitably making her enemies of Ye Ningfeng.
Ye Ningfeng nodded. “I understand whatever you do. But there’s one person you cannot touch—the Crown Prince. Ruoxi, listen to me. Rest first. If you trust me, I’ll go to the palace and inquire. If the Crown Princess acts suspiciously, I’ll inform you immediately.”
“Alright, fine. I’ll leave it to you then.” A faint smile appeared on her cold face.
Ye Ningfeng nodded and left. “Ye Hua, come with me to the palace. We’ll go to the Crown Prince’s residence now…”
Ling Ruoxi’s black eyes gleamed sharply. She gripped a wooden chair, pulled on her black night outfit, wrapped her face with a mask, and tied her long hair into a ponytail. She clenched the letter tightly in her hand.
Meet me for the children at Cloud Peak at midnight.
Simple words, yet they hit her heart like a hammer. Her children had indeed been kidnapped.
Cloud Peak—a mountain behind the capital, towering into the clouds. Its height and isolation made it difficult for anyone to reach. Monsters roamed freely, and even Dou Qi cultivators struggled within it. Ling Ruoxi, with no Dou Qi, had to survive alone.
But just like on Earth, being a trained agent allowed her to adapt and survive—environment forced her to change.
Her eyes, full of murderous intent, stared at her reflection. She bent down, inserted two sharp cleavers into her calves, strapped a long whip to her waist, bound wrist-mounted hidden darts and wires, carried a small pack on her back, and strapped a dagger to her thigh.
Twisting her neck, the clicking of her movements echoed. She pressed along walls like lightning—undetectable even by Dou Qi cultivators.
She was the night’s predator. Slender, silent, she moved toward Cloud Peak.
Meanwhile, a man stood atop a pavilion, casually toying with a wine cup. His elegant, carefree demeanor made him seem untouchable.
“Master, do we need—?”
“Of course. It’s almost time I meet her.”
“Will she come?” The night was pitch black, stars unseen, the peak freezing cold.
The man in black smirked. “She will. For the children, she will come.”
“How can you be so sure?” Ling Huiru shivered. The Crown Prince showed no interest in her. Even if she stayed out at night, he wouldn’t suspect. Yet how could Ling Ruoxi, with no Dou Qi, survive Cloud Peak filled with monsters?
The man in black smiled coldly. “Do you know she once slaughtered a thousand high-level monsters attacking Liuli Island—all alone?”
“What!” A thousand?! Ling Huiru nearly jumped. “How is that possible? She had no Dou Qi, yet killed so many monsters?!”
“Yes, I thought the same,” the man said, lightly tapping his arm. “Ridiculous, yet true. She did it all to protect children nearly devoured by monsters. I witnessed her murderous aura…”
Even he shuddered; the force felt like the sky collapsing. The ground sank, and his heart felt shattered. That terror left him certain—she would come.
She was the type who destroyed anything in her way.
“No… even maternal love cannot justify killing a thousand monsters!”
“Exactly. That’s why I alone discovered her secret,” the man smirked. “Every move she makes is infused with Purple Zun Dou Qi! I suspect her inability to use Dou Qi relates to the Purple Zun within her body.”
“What? How can this be… Purple Zun?!” Ling Huiru covered her mouth in shock. “Impossible! She grew up in the Ling household, she wouldn’t know any Purple Zun!”
“So tell me, Ling Ruoxi—is she really Ling Hu’s biological daughter?”
“She’s not… she’s just…”
Roar! A terrifying shout shattered the night, flames erupting, painting the sky red.
The woman emerged from the fire, eyes glowing with bloodlust, utterly emotionless, like a killing machine.
Her lithe body seemed entwined with a fire dragon. Her long hair floated as if alive. The cleavers in her hands struck down a rushing Green-Winged Wolf, impaling its head, and she viciously swung her leg to finish it off.
