Raising his sword-like brows, Luo Mingyu nodded with a smile. “Who said that? You’re a magical beast—you don’t count as human.”

“You—!” The Silver Wolf was almost furious enough to jump on the spot. At the very least, he was currently in human form—wasn’t that enough? It was as if, in this whole world, only Luo Mingyu was a genius.

Before the Silver Wolf could explode, a cold gaze nearly killed him on the spot. His lips twitched violently as he hurriedly turned his head and looked at the person behind him. “Uh, well… Ling Ruoxi, listen to my explanation.”

“Explain? Fine, then explain properly—where did you run off to? Damn it! I entrusted you with something, and this is how you handle it—by finding someone else to replace yourself?” Wanting nothing more than to kick the Silver Wolf flying, Ling Ruoxi grabbed his ear and dragged him inside.

Luo Mingyu, standing there, merely smiled faintly and casually closed the door, letting the two of them make a ruckus inside.

However, the man standing outside let a sharp glint flash through his eyes. He braced his hands on the railing as the surrounding air suddenly dropped in temperature, as if it were about to devour everything. His star-like eyes looked downstairs as he pinched his little finger and said coldly, “What an unexpected guest. I didn’t think you’d find this place.”

“Why? Am I not allowed to come?” The seated figure set down his teacup with a light smile. On the table before him sat a wooden box—its contents unknown.

Walking down the stairs slowly, Luo Mingyu looked at the man and said indifferently, “As you wish. I just didn’t expect you to find us so quickly.”

“Not at all. I merely happened to pass by.” The seated man smiled faintly. “Luo Mingyu, I advise you not to lay a hand on Ruoxi.”

As he spoke, he opened the wooden box. Inside was nothing more than a simple wooden sword.

Yet the moment Luo Mingyu saw it, his expression changed drastically. He shot to his feet. “Where did you get this? Tell me! Where is he? Where is he now?!”

“Calm down.” Fang Xu remained as carefree as ever. He brushed Luo Mingyu’s hands aside, picked up the wooden sword, and placed it into Luo Mingyu’s arms. “I’m only here to remind you—you’d better come clean with Ruoxi. She might be able to save you. If you dare seek treatment methods from the Poison Scripture and harm her in the process, I will kill you.”

“I mean what I say.”

As he brushed past Luo Mingyu, Fang Xu left behind a strange, enigmatic smile.

Clenching his fists tightly, Luo Mingyu’s expression darkened. He pulled out the wooden sword and looked at the patterns carved into it, then let out a cold laugh.

“Damn it, say that again—what, you just wanted to go out for a stroll, so you left? You bastard! Let me tell you, are you thick-skinned or just asking for a beating? Believe it or not, I’ll chop you up in minutes!”

“And what about you? You went out secretly with Luo Mingyu to fool around and left me here to fend for myself. You two get to have fun, but I can’t?”

“Fool around? Say that again, brat?”

Pushing open the door, Luo Mingyu was rendered completely speechless.

Inside the room, the two were fully entangled in a fight. Ling Ruoxi had one hand yanking the Silver Wolf’s hair, the other gripping his clothes. One foot was planted on the floor, while the other hooked around a nearby wooden pillar.

The Silver Wolf’s posture was no less ridiculous—one hand clutching the hand pulling his hair, the other grabbing Ling Ruoxi’s clothes. It looked like a duel. He kept pulling backward while Ling Ruoxi kicked forward in the opposite direction.

In contrast, Yu Chou lay calmly on the bed. The silver needles had already been removed, and there was nothing seriously wrong with him anymore. Even his complexion looked much better than usual.

“How do you feel?” Luo Mingyu asked, stepping past the two grappling figures and lowering his head toward Yu Chou.

Yu Chou nodded and coughed weakly. “I’m fine. Have you found Xiao Wu? He… he must be alright. One day has already passed—there are only nine days left…”

“Don’t worry. We’ll find him. Just rest properly for now—leave everything else to us,” Luo Mingyu said with a faint smile.

Yet Yu Chou glanced at the two still wrestling nearby and couldn’t help giving a bitter smile. Judging by those two, they really didn’t look reliable at all.

“Then… I’ll leave it to you.” Even so, Yu Chou nodded. At present, there was nothing he could do. All he could do was save his last breath for the very end.

A gentle breeze rose.

A small figure stood atop a tree branch, hatred burning in his eyes as he stared ahead. His tiny fists clenched tightly, as if he had finally mustered his courage, and he stepped toward the pond ahead.

With a single step, the surrounding flowers and grass withered instantly—then burst into flames. Heat surged as if it were about to incinerate everything, the temperature like a massive furnace. Wherever he passed, all vegetation ignited.

“Heh…” A strange smile curled from his lips. Spreading his arms as though embracing the most primal force, he walked step by step toward the center of the pond.

Sizzle—

Even the pond began to emit white mist from the heat. As he drew closer, the water rippled faintly.

A drifting leaf trembled in midair and fell toward the water. The instant it touched the surface, it froze solid—less than a second was enough to encase it completely in ice.

The smile on his lips grew even more unrestrained. The standing figure actually undid his robe and kicked off his shoes, stepping straight into the pond.

Crack!

The moment his pale foot touched the frigid water, visible ice rapidly climbed up his leg. In less than a second, the man who had just been smiling turned into an ice sculpture.

But the state didn’t last long.

With a crisp cracking sound, the frozen figure stepped out of the ice. The frost covering his body melted into water, completely dissolving away.

His clothes clung to his skin, then melted as well. Under the combined pressure of heat and cold, they shattered entirely, revealing a perfect body. A wicked smile appeared as he walked deeper into the pond, allowing the water to freeze and melt him again and again.

The entire pond began to boil. Steam rose, bubbles forming as the seated figure released all his Dou Qi, slowly merging it with the water.

Drop by drop, time seemed to freeze.

At last, the man leaning within the pond turned into a sphere of ice, completely encased in frost.

Eight days had passed. Only two days remained.

If they still couldn’t find that brat…

Looking up at the bright moon, Ling Ruoxi let out a sigh. Her willow brows lifted slightly as her fingers tapped against the table. That brat seemed to have evaporated into thin air—no trace of Dou Qi, no sign of a person.

Resting her forehead in her hand, Ling Ruoxi felt increasingly irritated. She turned to the ever-calm man beside her and asked, “Luo Mingyu, do you really know where Xiao Wu is? Only two days left. He hasn’t left this place, has he?”

“Relax. He won’t leave.” Luo Mingyu smiled faintly, removed his clothes, and lay down on the bed, patting the empty space beside him. “What? Not sleeping?”

“Sleeping? You can still sleep at a time like this?” Ling Ruoxi grabbed her hair in frustration. Yu Chou trusted them so much and had been resting peacefully these past few days—how could she let him be left with regrets?

Besides, no one knew how long Yu Chou could hold on. Though she had forced his internal organs to resume function with acupuncture, it was only a temporary solution. Before long, Yu Chou would still…

“If you don’t sleep properly, how will you know what tomorrow holds? Sleep.” Luo Mingyu smiled lightly, stood up, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and placed her onto the bed.

“Be good and sleep. You don’t doubt me, do you?” His brows lifted slightly as he reached for her sash, a wicked smile curling at his lips.

Ling Ruoxi quickly grabbed his mischievous hand and rolled toward the inside of the bed. “Fine, I’ll sleep, alright? Even sleeping comes with threats.”

She lifted the blanket and lay down. Whether from exhaustion or sheer fatigue, she soon drifted into a deep sleep.

“Ruoxi…” Luo Mingyu gently stroked her cheek, smiling faintly as he kissed her forehead. With a soft flick of his right hand, purple Dou Qi enveloped her.

“I’m only here to remind you—you’d better come clean with Ruoxi…”

Fang Xu’s words echoed in his ears. Luo Mingyu smiled faintly, twirling the wooden sword in his hand. He pressed his palm lightly against her brow, the strange purple totem appearing once more. Closing his eyes, he allowed his Dou Qi to roam freely within her body.

“Tired…”

Her dark circles were so swollen they looked like walnuts—Ling Ruoxi herself was startled by her reflection.

She had never felt this exhausted before. Even treating Yu Chou hadn’t drained her this much. Right now, she looked like a ghost.

“Hey, Luo Mingyu… you slept properly last night, didn’t you? Why do I feel so tired?” She yawned as she rubbed her shoulders, looking at him with sleepy eyes.

The corner of Luo Mingyu’s lips lifted. “What do you think? If I had done anything, you’d be sore here.” He pointed at her waist with a wicked grin.

Her face instantly flushed red. Ling Ruoxi quickly grabbed his hand and cleared her throat. “Alright, alright, I get it—stop touching. Strange… why is it that sleeping next to you makes me feel sore and weak all over? Enough—let’s go. We must find Xiao Wu today, or that brat…”

“Tonight at midnight is the best time. We’ll go together,” Luo Mingyu said, wrapping an arm around her waist and leading her outside.

But that ghost-like face of hers truly frightened the Silver Wolf. He thought Luo Mingyu had bullied her until she cried—her eyes were swollen like walnuts, her face pale as paper, completely devoid of color.
