“Roar!”

The magical beast below let out a furious bellow. Its massive head slammed upward, violently tossing the small boat into the air. With the loss of upward momentum and the sudden pull of gravity as it fell, everyone’s bodies tensed instinctively.

The piercing screams nearly shattered the island’s silence, drawing the attention of countless magical beasts. They watched as the heavy boat crashed brutally onto the rocks with a sharp crack, smashed into powder by the hard stone.

The figure who had leapt away landed steadily, calmly gazing at the boat that had been reduced to dust. What terrifying strength—able to hurl the boat such a distance.

“I thought I’d end up falling into a latrine again like last time. Didn’t expect it to be this place instead,” the Eastern Capital King said with a faint smile, setting down Baili Ling, whose legs were still weak. The poor girl had been so frightened she didn’t even know how to land properly.

A latrine? The corner of Ling Ruoxi’s mouth twitched. It seemed that beast did this sort of thing often.

“Alright, let me first explain our current situation,” the Eastern Capital King said, clapping his hands with a smile. “This is the most dominant region of Death Island. Ling’er, you’ve emphasized about the River-Crossing Black Ants, haven’t you?”

However, Ling Ruoxi felt no warmth at all in his smile.

This place was terrifying. From the moment she arrived, an oppressive aura had weighed on her, and the air here was filled with a pungent, irritating stench.

At the mention of those four words, Baili Ling’s expression changed drastically. Her delicate face twisted in fear. “You—you mean the River-Crossing Black Ants? Those low-level magical beasts that move in swarms of tens of millions, chasing down and killing their targets no matter where they flee? They’re the most troublesome magical beasts on Death Island—bar none!”

What? Ling Ruoxi hadn’t reacted yet, but seeing Baili Ling’s expression, she sensed something was very wrong. Could they really be that terrifying?

Before she could voice her doubt, a rustling sound gathered from all directions. Ling Ruoxi finally saw the so-called River-Crossing Black Ants. These small creatures that poked their heads out were at least ten times larger than Earth’s ants—some as big as a fist. Their enormous pincers easily crushed rocks.

Even Ling Ruoxi, who had never seen such beasts before, couldn’t help but inhale sharply. How disgusting. There were at least ten thousand of them, densely packed together, enough to make her scalp tingle with trypophobia.

Baili Ling spoke before Ling Ruoxi could, quickly grabbing the Eastern Capital King’s clothes. Her eyes filled with tears, on the verge of crying.
“Brother Yi, I’m begging you. Please send me out. I don’t want to die here. Once the River-Crossing Black Ants encounter humans, they will hunt them down and kill them no matter where they are. I beg you—use a teleportation array and send me out!”

“Alright,” the Eastern Capital King replied with a faint smile, saying nothing more. They had merely greeted the ants, and the young lady was already clamoring to leave. That was fine—this way, Ling Ruoxi wouldn’t need to hide anything anymore.

Biting his index finger, the Eastern Capital King drew a doorway in the air with his blood. With a gentle push, the blood-drawn door actually opened. Baili Ling no longer cared about dignity or pride—she hurriedly fled through it.

“Ruoxi, if you want to leave, I can send you out at any time,” the Eastern Capital King said, his expression slightly grave. “But take note—if the River-Crossing Black Ants pursue you, I won’t help. You must rely on your own strength to evade them. Otherwise, this trial will have no meaning.”

Feeling the small creatures drawing closer, Ling Ruoxi realized they had locked onto her. She immediately tried to circulate the Dou Qi in her body, attempting to draw power from the Hetian Jade. Yet the instant a trace of purple Dou Qi appeared, it vanished again.

But that instant was enough.

The man standing nearby suddenly turned his head to look behind him. That red figure was still standing there, unchanged.

“Oh no!” Ling Ruoxi cursed inwardly. In that moment of distraction, the ants on the ground suddenly leapt upward, shocking her. Ordinary ants could barely jump—but these River-Crossing Black Ants, with a single push, leapt over a meter high!

Her eyes widened in horror. Ling Ruoxi spun around sharply, dodging the ants. With a flip of her right hand, a prepared sleeve arrow shot out, striking a tree trunk, while her small figure dashed into the forest.

The swarm of ants was even more terrifying. Tens of thousands of them shifted at once, all surging toward the direction Ling Ruoxi had fled. They hadn’t hunted prey like this in a very long time.

The rustling grew louder, even the ground trembling. When she glanced back, her pupils shrank—the pursuing black mass twisted like a living curve, relentlessly chasing her.

“Damn it, do you have to be this insane?!” After an hour, even Ling Ruoxi’s stamina was failing, yet the things behind her were still chasing. At this rate, even running day and night for ten days wouldn’t get her out of here!

Her hair stood on end as she recalled what Baili Ling had said—was this thing truly impossible to shake off?

She instinctively looked up and gasped. The Eastern Capital King was floating in midair, arms crossed, watching her with raised brows. What made her even angrier was that he was actually holding roast chicken and fruit!

Now was that really the time to eat?!

More importantly—why were the ants chasing her and not him? Did they really have no way to reach someone in the air?

Her mind sharpened. Ling Ruoxi suddenly sprinted forward, then abruptly fell backward mid-stride. Her sleeve arrow shot out, latching onto the man in the air as she tried to leap toward him.

The man merely raised his brows and chuckled softly, placing his hand on the steel wire and giving it a gentle tug.

The airborne figure was yanked violently downward. Even Ling Ruoxi hadn’t expected him to do that.

Bang!

Her head smashed into a tree trunk, nearly knocking her unconscious. The rapidly advancing ants extended their pincers and snapped forward.

“Damn it—!” Grabbing one ant, Ling Ruoxi watched in horror as it clamped its pincers onto her finger. Thankfully, her reflexes were fast enough—she flung it away at once. Otherwise, that finger would have been severed.

Clearly, the Eastern Capital King had no intention of helping her. Fine—then she’d go up herself!

A cold glint flashed in her eyes. She dashed forward, clutching the Hetian Jade with both hands. Just as the ants were about to catch her, a burst of purple Dou Qi flared. Her small body shot into the air, cold sweat pouring down her forehead.

These ants were terrifyingly relentless.

But at least now, they couldn’t reach her.

Focusing her mind, Ling Ruoxi glanced toward the man and raised her brows with a smile.
“Now I’m up here. They can’t catch me anymore.”

However, the man merely smiled faintly, pointed downward, and then flung the roast chicken in his hand straight at her.

You’ve got to be kidding—she finally got up here and he’s knocking her down again?!

Every hair on her body stood on end. Just as the roast chicken reached her, she saw it—the River-Crossing Black Ants had stacked themselves upward from the ground, using their powerful jumps to leap into the air. The roast chicken blocked her vision for a second, and in that instant, one ant devoured it whole.

Bones struck her cheek as her mind reeled. Her footing slipped, and she nearly fell flat on her face again. She quickly leapt up and continued running.

Why was it that the Eastern Capital King could stand in the air without trouble, but the moment she went up, the ants began stacking themselves—layer upon layer—building from the ground into the air before leaping to attack?

Flames blazed in her eyes. Ling Ruoxi suddenly stopped, staring at the cliff ahead. She spun around to look back—wave after wave of ants were already closing in!

Fine. Let’s see how you follow me now!

Pressing her hand to her sleeve arrow, her slender figure landed on the opposite side. She watched with interest as the ants piled up on the other side.

She had carefully prepared twenty meters of steel wire for situations like this. The cliff was at least fifteen meters wide—there was no way those ants could cross.

“Shasha—”

The wind stirred the leaves, dust dancing in the air.

Behind her, the ants stacked higher and higher. The ones in front lunged forward and fell—but before they could hit the ground, those behind surged ahead, stepping on their backs. Wave after wave rushed forward.

“Damn it—this is insane!”

Ling Ruoxi’s eyes nearly popped out as she turned and ran again.

The man leaning against the cliff face merely shook his head helplessly. It seemed the woman still hadn’t realized it—but that was fine. She would eventually discover it. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even pass the first trial.

The River-Crossing Black Ants weren’t actually as terrifying as imagined.

A faint smile curled his lips. The man extended a hand and casually caught a charging ant. “Only when you stand in the position of the strong will you understand how weak these magical beasts truly are.”

Crack!

The fist-sized ant was crushed instantly.

The sea churned violently, waves surging skyward.

On the shore, a man stood with a drastically changed expression. His fists were clenched tightly, cold light flashing in his dark eyes as he said heavily, “She really went to Death Island?”

“Yes,” Ting Hai nodded. This was news they had just received—and even they were powerless to stop it.

Luo Mingyu’s expression darkened to the extreme. Having hidden on Qiongyu Immortal Island for so many years, he knew all too well how terrifying that place was. And yet that woman had barged in just like that! And the Eastern Capital King had actually accompanied her in this madness!

Death Island—absolutely a place she must never touch. With her meager strength, how could she possibly contend with those magical beasts?

Clenching his fists, Luo Mingyu said in a low voice, “Pass down the order. Everyone stays put. I’m going to Death Island.”

—to bring that foolish woman back.
