Before long, commotion arose outside. Lights flickered as disciples carrying lanterns hurried toward the outer area, while those left behind went door to door checking the rooms of the newcomers.

Luckily, she had returned in time. Ling Ruoxi sighed inwardly, took off her clothes, and lay down on the bed. When she heard the noise, she pretended to be groggy with sleep. “What’s going on, sisters?”

“Hmph, nothing!” It was just a routine inspection to see whether the newcomers had been wandering around. The inspectors were unwilling to say more, closed the door, and left.

At the same time, before the dark ravine, countless disciples arrived. When they saw the gigantic figure, their scalps tingled. None of them could imagine that such a terrifying thing was imprisoned here!

“Roar, hahaha…” The miserable sound continued to echo as the enormous palm descended like the sky collapsing, slamming violently downward.

Those who failed to dodge in time were smashed to pieces with a single slap.

Severed limbs were scattered everywhere, and groans filled the air.

“Quick, stop this monster!” a highly skilled woman shouted. Brilliant, multicolored Dou Qi burst forth, dazzling in the darkness of night.

Like raging dragons and tigers, the qi shot forward with earth-shattering force, crashing into the giant’s body with a thunderous boom.

Yet the figure floating in midair showed not the slightest reaction. Calmly, it brushed the dirt from its clothes. Dark eyes gleamed coldly as it suddenly raised its hand and clenched it forward.

“Ugh…” Those who had been standing on the ground instantly turned pale. It felt as though a giant invisible hand had emerged from the void, gripping their throats, rendering them unable to move. They could only rise slowly along with the giant’s arm.

“Stop!” A cold voice echoed. The proud figure strode forward. “Senior Sister, why are you doing this again? Today you’re so violent that even the natal demonic beast within you can easily take over your body. Are you now so weak that you can’t even suppress the guardian demonic beast of Qiongyu?”

“Geh geh…” A shrill laugh rang out. The black figure standing there suddenly waved its hand, flinging all the people suspended in midair away.

Coldly glancing at the person before it, the towering figure snorted softly, then slowly turned around. Black light flared, and in the blink of an eye, it vanished into the air.

Baili Wushuang snorted and frowned slightly. She naturally understood her senior sister Baili Yan’s strength—how could she possibly be unable to control the demonic beast within her?

Looking at the cratered ground, Baili Wushuang stared at the footprints ahead, cold light flashing in her eyes. The demonic beast would only awaken when stimulated by someone else’s aura. It seemed someone had come here.

With a rough idea in mind, Baili Wushuang waved her sleeve. “Everyone, go back and rest. Also, Chunhua, go take care of the newcomer and let her learn the rules of Qiongyu Immortal Island.”

“Yes!” The woman in white replied softly.

Qiongyu Immortal Island was shrouded in white mist, filled with birdsong and the fragrance of flowers—the best season for viewing blossoms.

But Ling Ruoxi did not think so at all. No matter how uniquely beautiful the peach blossoms were, she had no mood to appreciate them. As soon as dawn broke, she was assigned here, her task being—tilling the land!

Moreover, she was not allowed to take pills. In this miasma, after staying for one hour, she had to soak in water for the duration of one incense stick to force the miasma out of her body. Repeating this several times, her soaked clothes became indistinguishable between sweat and seawater.

Could yesterday’s incident have drawn Baili Wushuang’s attention? Ling Ruoxi thought silently, gripping the hoe. Her fair hands were already rubbed raw, swollen and red.

Opposite her, Chunhua sat beneath a peach tree, whip in hand, watching Ling Ruoxi. Her task was to “properly take care” of newcomers like this.

Clang, clang… The hoe struck against a tree root, and Ling Ruoxi froze. It felt as though there was something there. She bent down instinctively and carefully dug to the sides with the hoe.

“Wah!” The next instant, what was revealed made Ling Ruoxi stagger back several steps in fright.

A severed arm lay beneath the roots, still clutching the soil. It had long been gnawed by insects and ants, rotting and disgusting to behold.

“What are you making such a fuss for? Where are your manners!” Chunhua lashed the ground hard with her whip and sneered. “The peach trees here are all fertilized with human remains. Anyone who disobeys gets dismembered and buried here!”

“Killing people… isn’t killing illegal?” Cold light flashed in Ling Ruoxi’s eyes as she spoke tremblingly, gripping the hoe so tightly that her legs nearly gave way.

The woman standing there only chuckled softly. “Killing people? Illegal? You little wretch talk just like those outside. Let me tell you—on Qiongyu Immortal Island, the Island Master’s words are the law! Here, the Island Master is your king. Killing people isn’t illegal! Since you’re here, learn your lesson!”

With a flick of her hand, a sharp dagger appeared in Chunhua’s grasp. Squatting down coldly, she chopped the once-intact arm into several pieces with swift movements.

“Come, bury this again.” Crossing her arms, Chunhua sneered at the disobedient newcomer. Just because she was brought back by the King of Eastern Capital didn’t mean she could skip the process and directly become one of the island’s_toggle.

Frowning, Ling Ruoxi picked up the hoe, but the woman there said darkly, “Use your hands. Bury them with your hands!”

“…” Damn it—could this get any more grotesque?! Veins bulged on Ling Ruoxi’s temple as her mouth twitched, but she still bent down.

The moment her slender hands touched the ground, the loosened soil suddenly shifted. A streak of black shot out like lightning. A sharp glint flashed in its dark eyes. Clenching her teeth, Ling Ruoxi watched helplessly as the wet thing bit down on her wrist. Its long body coiled suddenly, wrapping tightly around her arm.

“Ah! Help!” She leapt up, screaming. A small black snake was clamped firmly onto her flesh.

She jumped around wildly, shaking her right arm, grabbing the snake’s tail with her left, trying to fling it away. Chunhua burst into laughter at the sight, clutching her stomach. “Oh, newbie, I forgot to tell you—every fertilizer pit has a black snake in it. It’s not poisonous, just bites really painfully, and it’s hard to pull off. Hahaha…”

“Ah!” With a fierce swing of her right arm, Ling Ruoxi flung the snake away. The black snake turned into a streak of lightning and shot straight toward Chunhua.

“Mmph—” For an instant, the entire world fell silent.

The woman who had been laughing uproariously froze, her cackling abruptly cut off. The black snake had dramatically bitten onto her lips, its sharp fangs sinking deep, its slender body coiling tightly around her head.

Ling Ruoxi stood there, letting out a cold laugh inwardly, still wearing a terrified expression as she stared at the woman being “kissed” by the snake. “S-Sister Chunhua, are you all right?”

“Ah! Get away, get away!” Chunhua’s face changed drastically. She grabbed the snake’s tail and yanked downward.

Bloody flesh was torn away, making Ling Ruoxi’s heart race. If she had been bitten on the lips—would she have ended up with a split mouth too?

“Damn it!” Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Chunhua chopped the black snake in two and stomped on the creature viciously. Pressing her hand to her now-mangled lip, her face darkened. “Y-you continue. I’ll be back!”

“Yes.” Watching her run off, Ling Ruoxi raised an eyebrow, then lowered her head to look at her own arm. The hole left by the snake’s bite was still bleeding bright red. Just as Chunhua had said—it hurt like hell, but there was no poison.

She tore a strip from her clothes and wrapped her arm. Soon after, Chunhua returned, her face still smeared with blood—but her wound had already healed.

With Dou Qi, even losing a chunk of flesh could be repaired. That was the advantage of Dou Qi. As long as the heart still beat and the severed parts still existed, repair was possible.

“All right, stop. The King of Eastern Capital is looking for you!” Suppressing her resentment, Chunhua glared at Ling Ruoxi, one hand touching her lips in confusion.

No one bitten by the black snake had ever managed to break free. Yet this ugly girl had actually flung it away with brute force.

Answering softly, Ling Ruoxi put down the hoe. Calling it training was just a fancy way of torturing her.

Following the path inward, passing through green corridors and pavilions by the water, an elegant residence appeared ahead. It lacked Baili Wushuang’s extravagant luxury. A bamboo grove swayed like waves, rising and falling.

Leaves brushed against one another, producing a soft rustling sound. In the small pond ahead, fish played, occasionally leaping out of the water. With a flick of their agile tails, droplets scattered before falling back into the pool.

A faint scent of sandalwood drifted out. Pushing open the bamboo house revealed paintings of plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum—poetic and refined. Incense burned in the censer, white smoke curling through the room. In one study filled with books, brushes and ink lay on the desk, and an unfinished painting rested on the paper.

The other room contained only simple furnishings—a large bed and nothing else. To find such an elegant and understated dwelling on Qiongyu Immortal Island was truly rare.

Even Chunhua was deeply drawn in by the atmosphere here. Folding her hands before her, she said softly, “This is where the King of Eastern Capital lives. It’s so beautiful…”

“Outside, bamboo houses like this are quite common. You’re just used to gold, silver, and jewels,” Ling Ruoxi said with a light smile.

The innermost door was pushed open. A man dressed in fiery red stepped out, his robe half open, casually revealing fair skin. His well-built chest was faintly tinted red. Long black hair fell over his shoulders, giving him a lazy, gentle air.

His slightly languid gaze swept over Chunhua, then settled on Ling Ruoxi. “You may leave. Ah Han, come here.”

“Yes.” Casting an unwilling glance at Ling Ruoxi, Chunhua bowed and left.

As if finally able to breathe easier, Ling Ruoxi let out a quiet sigh. The man in red held a towel in one hand, drying his wet hair, while the other hand held a brush, tracing bamboo leaves on the paper.

“Your Highness, why have you summoned me?” Ling Ruoxi asked softly. She dared not forget the King of Eastern Capital’s instructions, while also secretly observing the man before her.
