Luo Mingyu’s fist continued to slam into the wall. His voice trembled as he said, “From that moment on, I swore I would destroy all of Qiongyu Island—leave not a single soul alive! I followed them there and succeeded in infiltrating the island!”
His voice grew louder, filled with intensity. The man standing coldly nearby sneered. “They trusted me, letting me become a disciple of Qiongyu Island. In front of others, I always wore a stern face because I hated everyone there! But one mission… changed me completely.”
A faint smile tugged at Luo Mingyu’s lips as he turned, bloodshot eyes veiled with a mist, making him look terrifying.
Ling Ruoxi inhaled sharply. She understood Luo Mingyu’s pain—it was as if she had once been brought into life-and-death situations, watching her closest companion fall, killed by her own hands.
As their organization had said: if you want to avoid suffering, be prepared to give everything. Otherwise, when the time of separation comes, your heart will feel like it’s being torn apart—you will neither live nor die in peace.
“That mission was a hundred years ago. I was sent to hunt a lone woman. She claimed she wanted to annihilate everyone on Qiongyu Island, so I planned to join her. But I never imagined it was a lie—a lie told to save her life! She poisoned my food and threw me into the river. That was the turning point in my life—my master, named Ling Feng, rescued me.” Luo Mingyu clenched his fists tightly, his deep voice low and heavy.
“He said that all my rage had betrayed me. Everyone could see it—I wore a stern face, and even those on the island knew I was fighting for revenge. People like me have only one end: used, then destroyed.”
“So, I learned to hide—to conceal my true emotions. I personally eliminated the woman who deceived me. I returned to the island: during the day, a formal disciple; at night, by my master’s side, learning from him. Only then did I realize he controlled a small faction. My master trusted me, so he entrusted the faction to me.” A faint smirk appeared, and his tone lightened slightly. “Along with me on Qiongyu Island were childhood companions—the seven you saw with Ting Hai Wuque. Together, we established the Xie Wang Island faction, developing in secret, all for the day we could conquer Qiongyu Island.”
Tracing the mural before him, Luo Mingyu let out a helpless smile. “No matter what, I never imagined that the Grand Protector, whom they said would forever be unable to cultivate with hatred in her heart, would be imprisoned over twenty years ago. At that time, I was already a candidate for Young Master, yet I didn’t know why—only that she had committed a grave offense and was confined to the Wújí Realm, unable to escape forever.”
“After my master handed me the faction, he wandered the mainland. I never expected he would end up with the Grand Protector, and… you.” His gaze landed on Ling Ruoxi. Bitterly, he smiled. The young woman before him was his master’s child—was this coincidence, or destiny?
Ling Feng… is he her father? Ling Ruoxi’s long eyelashes trembled. She seemed petrified, sitting motionless, hands clenched, thoughts unreadable.
Was she frightened? Luo Mingyu frowned slightly, sitting beside her. He pulled her into his arms.
Even he could hardly believe that the cultivation methods on the wall were from his master’s hand. The Qiongyu Island methods were far stronger than what anyone had taught him.
“So… where is my father now?” Ling Ruoxi lifted her head abruptly. She was unnervingly calm, expressionless as she sat.
Luo Mingyu’s heart skipped. He frowned, uncertain how to read her, shaking his head. “I don’t know either. Master has been wandering for over a hundred years, and I…”
He had only just learned his master had a child. This little one in front of him was practically his junior apprentice. And yet… here they were, all tangled up, without the master knowing? A pang of guilt struck Luo Mingyu. Should he find his master and tell him what had happened?
He had been angry, but his thoughts had already strayed, considering other matters.
Ling Ruoxi’s gaze remained fixed on the cultivation methods above. Her mother’s writing was far more elegant than hers. Wújí Realm… what kind of place was that?
“Ruoxi, you…” Luo Mingyu was startled to see her rise. He wanted to grab her hand, but she walked straight outside.
Quickly rising, Luo Mingyu chased after her. He didn’t know the specifics of her parents’ situation and could only investigate. Though he could not return to Qiongyu Island, he could go to Xie Wang Island to ask the old members—they might have information.
“It’s nothing.” Ling Ruoxi placed her hand on the heavy stone door. Luo Mingyu noticed the immense weight—it was far beyond her strength to open.
No wonder—the door had to hold back seawater; it was naturally reinforced.
Luo Mingyu pressed his hand to the door, surging his right hand forward. Purple Dou Qi erupted, forcing the door open. The empty stone stairway was revealed, with the two outside still standing on the shore, waiting.
“Already done?” The Dongdu King chuckled, grabbing Ling Ruoxi’s wrist.
The silver wolf glared at him, bewildered. Holding Ling Ruoxi’s other hand, he asked, “Ruoxi, are you okay?”
Shaking her head, Ling Ruoxi stepped forward calmly, saying coldly, “Let’s go back.”
“What’s the matter? Nothing to say?” The Dongdu King smiled faintly, watching Luo Mingyu follow behind. He extended his hand, retrieving the Watersplitting Stone from the sea, and the surrounding water surged back together.
Luo Mingyu wanted to speak, but seeing the departing figures, he found himself unable to form words.
“You’re a man. Be magnanimous and comfort the woman.” The Dongdu King’s hand pressed Luo Mingyu’s shoulder, speaking softly.
Nodding, Luo Mingyu followed Ling Ruoxi silently. Back at the residence, she chose a room and locked herself inside.
He had no chance to explain, only standing outside, watching her shadow lying on the bed. Perhaps… she was just exhausted.
Luo Mingyu thought so, returning to his room, contemplating his own affairs.
“Ruoxi, Ruoxi, you can’t be asleep already! What happened? Just tell me! Don’t bottle it up—I’m your destined beast. If you’re upset, I can’t be happy either!” The silver wolf, squatting on the floor, watched the tear-streaked girl, twitching at his mouth. Mimicking Luo Mingyu, he grabbed her from the bed and pulled her close. “Better now? Humans always do this. You can cry freely leaning on me!”
“Get lost!” Ling Ruoxi wished she could kick him out. What a ridiculous thought—does anyone feel better by crying while sitting?
Wiping her tears, she clenched her hands and asked, “Xiao Bai, how long have you been on this continent?”
“Just a few hundred years. Why? About your parents? Sorry, back then I didn’t know them. Right after I transformed into human form, monsters attacked me. Almost died—luckily you saved me.” He shrugged helplessly. Seeing that she had stopped crying, he held her a little tighter.
Ling Ruoxi gazed calmly at him. “I want to know about Qiongyu Island. Since they choose people with talent, I want to know… the timing of their selections.”
“What are you planning?” The silver wolf’s fur bristled in alarm. Was she planning to go to Qiongyu Island?
Her mother was the Grand Protector, imprisoned in Wújí Realm. Was she going to rescue her? He hurriedly released her, nearly sending her flying.
“Xiao Bai!” Ling Ruoxi yelped, clutching the bed to avoid being thrown.
The standing man shook his head, wincing. “Ruoxi, I didn’t mean it. But going to Qiongyu Island—that’s absolutely impossible!”
“Why?” Ling Ruoxi raised an eyebrow, looking at him.
Swallowing hard, the silver wolf said bitterly, “Even when I was a pup, I’d heard about it. Qiongyu Island has endless stupid rules. Anyone entering, chosen or not, must give up a fragment of their soul. Once your soul is given, they can indirectly control you—they’ll know your every move.”
“Luo Mingyu is strong, so he can hide his intentions. But Ruoxi, you have no Dou Qi—how could Qiongyu Island want you?” The silver wolf’s words struck the truth.
Indeed, without Dou Qi… how could she hope to succeed?
Ling Ruoxi smiled bitterly, sighing. Talking about rescuing her mother was impossible—she had no plan, only guesses. Wújí Realm… what kind of place is that? She didn’t know.
Seeing her sadness, the silver wolf waved his hand. “Ruoxi, calm down. I’m just talking. Actually, you do have Dou Qi.” He could observe its flow within her body.
The sitting man remained completely calm, merely smiling coldly. “I know. But what of it? I cannot use Dou Qi. That’s the fact.”
