After swallowing the pill, Ling Ruoxi took out an ointment and rubbed it on her palm. Her body was immune to poisons, but even so, she couldn’t leave injuries untreated.
Flexing her right hand, Ling Ruoxi shook her head. “Who is that woman? How did she suddenly appear by Luo Mingyu’s side?”
“Hm?” Tang Yinhai frowned and sighed. “That woman is probably from Qiongyu Immortal Island. Didn’t you hear Luo Mingyu call her Ling’er? She should be the daughter of the island’s master—Baili Ling.”
“What?!” Ling Ruoxi felt like her ears had malfunctioned. They were still being hunted by the master of Qiongyu Immortal Island, and that man… had the island master’s daughter right by his side!
Her eyes nearly popped out. She grabbed Tang Yinhai’s clothes and shouted, “What did you say?! She’s the island master’s daughter? Won’t she report back to her mother?!”
“Calm down!” Tang Yinhai barked sharply, grabbing her wrist. His voice was serious. “Baili Ling and Luo Mingyu grew up together—they’re childhood friends. When Luo Mingyu was nearly killed, it was Baili Ling who saved him. That’s why he’s grateful to her. Baili Ling would never betray him.”
“How can you be so sure she won’t betray him? Luo Mingyu attacked Qiongyu Immortal Island! Even if a daughter is married off, she’s not so powerless that she’d let the island be destroyed and help someone else!” Ling Ruoxi yelled, her fury boiling. She couldn’t understand why, just as Qiongyu Island sent people after them, Baili Ling appeared here.
Shaking his head, Tang Yinhai frowned. “It’s different. Baili Ling knows Luo Mingyu’s identity, yet she hasn’t told her father. That shows she trusts him. Now she…”
“That’s enough! Why is everyone defending her? Why won’t anyone trust me?!” Ling Ruoxi pushed Tang Yinhai aside, furious, and stormed out of the room.
In the bustling marketplace, the woman holding a wine bottle drank heartily, showing no semblance of composure. A single cup would have been enough to knock her out, yet she had drunk three bottles and was still standing.
Even Fang Xu couldn’t stand it. He snatched the bottle from Ling Ruoxi’s hand. “A man, and you act like this? I told you before, if you follow me, I’ll fulfill your every wish. Besides, I have no childhood crushes—I’ll only ever like you. Six years ago, you told me to wait, didn’t you?”
“It’s different. You’re a brother, a great friend, a comrade who shields me from bullets, who fights beside me. You’re not a man I can love.” Ling Ruoxi hiccupped as she patted Fang Xu’s shoulder.
Fang Xu couldn’t help but laugh through his exasperation. “I am a man, you know!”
“No! You’re not the man I want. Luo Mingyu, you bastard! You abandoned your childhood friend! I’ll make you regret it.” Hugging the wine bottle, Ling Ruoxi sat beside Fang Xu, chuckling drunkenly. “Fang Xu, you just said it—you only like me, right?”
Her mind long gone, she pointed at him with a finger, hiccupping, staring blankly at the street outside.
A flash of red wove through the crowd, a smile on her lips and a knowing look in her upturned eyes, as if wanting to say something, then slowly disappearing.
Her dazed eyes sparkled, and the drunk woman suddenly stood up, staring forward. “Huangfu Xuan—it’s him, he…”
“Where?” Fang Xu stood up, puzzled. Across the street, there were only passersby—no sign of Huangfu Xuan. Moreover, he was still under the cliff, so there was no way he could appear here. Even riding a magical beast would take half a month.
But… it really looked like him. Shaking her head, Ling Ruoxi sat down. “Hey, Fang Xu, since Luo Mingyu dared to cheat and follow another woman, I…”
“Follow me?” Fang Xu smiled knowingly, spinning the storage ring in his hand.
Ling Ruoxi shook her head. “No! Since he dares to cheat, I’ll cut off his leg! Think I’m an idiot? Think I’m easy to bully? Hmph. You’ll see what I’m capable of—I’m the top agent for a reason!”
“Top agent? What’s that?” Fang Xu looked disappointed. Even drunk, she wouldn’t follow him.
Sighing bitterly, Ling Ruoxi raised the wine glass and drank the rest. “A top agent is… hic… hard to explain. Basically, very powerful, extremely capable! In your terms, a killer—working in secret, striking without warning!” She tapped her chest and gave a thumbs-up.
Fang Xu could only nod wryly. Even with skill, there was no way to do anything miraculous.
“Fang Xu!” She slapped his back. He spat out the wine, wiping his mouth, and looked up. “What’s up, Ruoxi?”
“Bang!” Her strong arm slammed the table, cracking it instantly.
Her twitching lips and the sensation of her hand on his neck felt like an icy snake coiling around him—goosebumps all over.
“Why can’t I beat that Baili Ling brat? Why does she have Luo Mingyu’s favor, while I—holding all the initiative—get ignored? Does Luo Mingyu not like me anymore? That bastard… I should’ve let Yizhui cut off his little thing—it’s useless anyway!”
She kicked the chair aside, and the drunk woman bolted off the second floor like a whirlwind.
Fang Xu, drenched in cold sweat, dropped his wine cup and grabbed Ling Ruoxi’s wrist. Oh my god! A drunk Ling Ruoxi is terrifying! No fighting energy, and if she jumps, she’ll at least break bones!
People below were shocked, pointing and shouting at the scene.
“Ruoxi, are you alright?” Fang Xu gritted his teeth, holding her dangling form.
Unfazed, the drunk woman pouted, swaying. “I want to fly higher! Higher!”
Her screaming was horrendous, utterly lacking grace. Her tone, combined with slurred speech, made Fang Xu nearly burst out laughing.
Tilting her right hand, she grabbed him as she soared. Her sharp nails scratched his wrist, and stepping on the eaves, she slipped and fell onto the tiles, sliding down the slope.
“Ruoxi!” Fang Xu leapt to catch her. In mere minutes, his heart felt like it couldn’t take any more.
He finally understood Luo Mingyu’s frustration. Never be near a drunk Ling Ruoxi—otherwise, disaster awaits.
After finally getting her under control, he personally took her to the inn.
“Take care of her. And pay attention to Baili Ling too—she’s Luo Mingyu’s current woman.” Fang Xu handed over the intoxicated Ling Ruoxi, coldly addressing Luo Mingyu.
Luo Mingyu sniffed the heavy alcohol and frowned. Lately, this woman seemed to enjoy getting drunk—already utterly wasted after only a few days.
“My woman… I know what to do. As for you, you don’t need to linger here.” Luo Mingyu smirked.
Fang Xu smiled faintly. “None of your business. I just know if you can’t protect her, I will.”
Once Fang Xu left, Luo Mingyu carried the drunk Ling Ruoxi back to her room. Looking at her flushed face and messy form, he frowned slightly, brushing her hair from her face.
“Don’t you know how to take care of yourself? Poisoned one moment, drunk the next. If it happens again, I’ll punish you properly.”
He patted her butt lightly, took a wet towel, and gently wiped her face. Such a foolish woman—couldn’t she see that his relationship with Baili Ling was purely sibling-like? How could he like someone clinging to him every day?
Still… she had saved him once, and he was obligated to repay that debt.
“Foolish girl,” he whispered, pinching her delicate face, sighing. Baili Ling’s presence now made him realize his little vixen’s jealousy had grown, unlike before. She not only provoked other men, but also enjoyed these antics.
Thinking of how she had dressed so seductively yesterday, sitting quietly like a noble lady, waiting for him, Luo Mingyu drew a sharp breath. If her body weren’t weak, he would have taken her then and there.
