As the image on the screen became clear again, Ling Yunxiao’s figure reappeared.
Standing at the back, Hawkins had witnessed the entire battle—a slaughter that was practically one-sided. The arrogance on his face had long since frozen solid. His pupils had shrunk to pinpoints, and it felt as though all the blood in his body had turned to ice.
He had never imagined that this man, labeled in the intelligence report as a “pretty boy living off women,” would actually be such a terrifying monster.
Watching Ling Yunxiao steadily walk toward him, Hawkins finally lost his composure. In panic, he grabbed a rusty steel pipe from the ground and charged forward with a roar, hoping to force his opponent back with brute strength.
Ling Yunxiao casually sidestepped the whistling steel pipe and, with a backhand motion, swept the straw precisely across Hawkins’ wrist.
Excruciating pain instantly surged through Hawkins’ body. The steel pipe flew from his grasp and slammed into the wall with a dull crash.
Before he could react, Ling Yunxiao had already closed the distance. The straw flashed repeatedly across his ankles, behind his ears, and beneath his jaw, leaving several gruesome wounds behind.
Blood streamed down Hawkins’ neck, soaking his expensive custom-made shirt. His once refined and dignified appearance instantly became utterly disheveled.
Staggering backward several steps, Hawkins barely managed to steady himself against the cold wall. Terror overwhelmed him like a tidal wave, and even his voice trembled uncontrollably.
Ling Yunxiao withdrew his stance, the murderous aura surrounding him gradually subsiding.
From beginning to end, not a single drop of blood had splashed onto his clothes.
Even the five cups of milk tea hanging from his left hand remained perfectly clean, with only the slightest swaying.
After finishing everything, he suddenly exerted force in his palm.
Crack!
A crisp sound rang out as his fingers clenched.
Under the pressure of his powerful inner energy, the plastic straw that had performed such great feats instantly shattered into countless fine particles, which drifted lightly into the thick layer of dust on the floor and disappeared without a trace, leaving behind no evidence whatsoever.
Lowering his head, he glanced at the phone screen. When his gaze landed on Ling Nianci, the icy expression in his eyes immediately softened, and his voice came clearly through the speaker into the private room.
“Nian Nian, don’t worry. The milk tea is still warm. It’ll be just right to drink when I get back.”
In his heart, the milk tea meant for his daughter was ten thousand times more important than the wailing insects lying on the floor.
As soon as he finished speaking, enthusiastic applause erupted inside the private room.
Miao Yunyou excitedly clapped her hands, her voice full of admiration.
“Amazing! Truly amazing! Even Guan Yu slaying Hua Xiong while the wine was still warm wasn’t any more impressive than this!”
Unexpectedly, Ling Nianci tilted her head, blinked her eyes, and asked with a puzzled expression,
“But Dad, I ordered iced milk tea.”
In the warehouse, Ling Yunxiao froze.
He looked down at the milk tea in his hand, then raised his head to look at the phone screen.
He remained silent for a full two seconds.
Then, in an extremely bewildered tone, he let out:
“…Huh?”
Since Ling Yunxiao’s side had already finished dealing with the matter, Miao Yunyou took the opportunity to make a call to the Municipal Public Security Bureau.
She informed them that she had just purchased a national treasure back from some foreigners, only for one of her people to be kidnapped immediately afterward.
Such behavior was simply outrageous, and she hoped the authorities would deal with it appropriately.
After hanging up, Miao Yunyou tossed her phone onto the table and lightly tapped her fingers against its surface. With a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, she looked toward the interpreter.
“Alright then. Your turn.”
The interpreter shuddered violently.
The strength he had barely maintained while holding the phone vanished instantly.
His knees gave out, and with a loud thud, he crashed to the floor, tears and snot streaming down his face.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I was wrong! I don’t know anything! I’m just an interpreter! I’m no different from those AI translation programs! Please don’t hurt me! I don’t want to die…”
Miao Yunyou was amused by his miserable appearance and let out a snort of laughter.
“To be fair, that mouth of yours really is impressive. You can turn black into white. No wonder you make a living with it.”
“Then when you’re standing in front of the police later…”
“You know what you should say, right?”
The interpreter nodded frantically. His expression instantly changed to one of righteous indignation as he shouted passionately,
“I know, I know! It’s all Hawkins’ fault! He’s shameless! His family stole treasures from our country back then!
“Now that someone from our country has finally bought them back, he wants to steal them again!
“How despicable! Even though I’m a Chinese American, Chinese blood still flows through my veins! I’ve disliked him for a long time already! I’ll put all the blame on him!”
Ling Nianci was thoroughly impressed.
“What a dedicated villain!”
Of course, there was one small twist to the whole affair.
At the police station, the gangsters and Hawkins kept insisting that, since they had suffered such severe injuries, the other side should also be held responsible.
“So, what you’re telling us,” the officer asked, “is that this man, while carrying five cups of milk tea, injured all of you with a single plastic straw, and then crushed the straw with his bare hand to destroy the evidence?”
“Yes, exactly! I know it sounds like we’re crazy, but that’s really what happened! It’s too bizarre! Hurry up and arrest him!”
“…Prepare a drug test. Let’s see if they’re hallucinating from drug use.”
Nevertheless, out of caution, the police still investigated the milk tea in Ling Yunxiao’s possession.
They discovered that there were exactly five cups of milk tea—and exactly five straws.
What evidence destruction?
This was clearly slander!
But the truth was that Ling Yunxiao had indeed taken an extra straw at the time, making it six straws in total.
It wasn’t because he had foreseen what would happen later.
The main reason was that he had seen a young couple nearby sharing one cup of milk tea with two straws, drinking together sweetly.
He had wanted to try the same thing with Wen Xiuning…
In the end, the fair and impartial police officers concluded that the wounds on the criminals were obviously caused by sharp blades.
However, none of the bladed weapons found at the scene bore Ling Yunxiao’s fingerprints. They contained only the fingerprints of the gangsters themselves.
Furthermore, Ling Yunxiao didn’t have a single bloodstain on him, and surveillance footage from outside the milk tea shop clearly showed that he had been forcibly abducted at knifepoint.
Therefore, the only possible explanation was that the gang had fought among themselves over the division of the spoils, which had absolutely nothing to do with the victim.
As a result, the entire group was imprisoned on charges of:
- Kidnapping,
- Picking quarrels and provoking trouble,
- Illegal possession of controlled knives,
- Intentional assault,
- Organizing a criminal gang.
They received prison sentences ranging from three to ten years.
Hawkins refused to accept the verdict and attempted to exert diplomatic pressure through the U.S. Embassy, demanding extradition to the United States for trial.
However, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the courts firmly rejected the request, explicitly stating that China’s judicial sovereignty would not tolerate interference.
As an ordinary American businessman, Hawkins possessed no diplomatic privileges. Moreover, the amount involved in this case was exceptionally large, making the circumstances particularly serious.
He was required to undergo a complete trial in China and serve his entire sentence before being deported. The U.S. government had no means of intervening.
Truly, a happy ending for all involved~
