Luo Xinglan only gave the translator a faint glance. Sensing that the man had no combat ability whatsoever, he didn’t even bother releasing a trace of killing intent.
Wen Xiuning, however, glanced at the time and realized Ling Yunxiao had been gone for almost 30 minutes.
Then all four of them turned their attention to the translator.
With a good show unfolding, Miao Yunyou wasn’t even hungry anymore. She put down her chopsticks, leaned slightly forward, and studied him with interest, her tone teasing:
“Well, well, what an unexpected guest. I wonder what brings you here so late at night?”
The translator didn’t know where he got his confidence from. He pulled out a chair and sat down directly, looking completely assured of himself.
“I’m here to arrange a deal between Coach Hawkins and Coach Miao.”
“A deal?” Miao Yunyou raised an eyebrow, pretending to be curious. “Let me guess—don’t tell me Hawkins wants to spend two hundred million to buy back that Northern Song bronze turtle paperweight from me?”
At that, the translator’s mouth twitched violently, a surge of frustration rising in his chest. He almost spat blood on the spot.
Earlier that afternoon, they had consulted top antique experts in the industry. Based on material, historical value, and the quality of the ruby, the item’s ceiling valuation was around one hundred million. Yet Miao Yunyou casually doubled it on the spot to two hundred million. Her level of ruthlessness completely shattered his understanding.
Seeing the translator’s ugly expression, the smile in Miao Yunyou’s eyes deepened. Her tone was direct and forceful:
“Sorry, let me make this clear for you. Not to mention two hundred million—even if he offers three hundred million right now, I still won’t sell it. Tell Hawkins to understand his place. I earn far more than someone like him who only relies on his family like a parasitic insect.”
Each word was sharp and unfiltered, leaving no room for politeness.
The translator took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his anger, and then let out a cold laugh.
“Coach Miao is indeed very capable. The resort projects under your name are extremely profitable, and your so-called ‘special talents’ are all quite extraordinary. I can also see that you treat them sincerely, like family.”
His tone suddenly shifted, and a cold glint appeared in his eyes.
“However, I wonder—if these precious family members of yours suddenly fell into danger… what price would Coach Miao be willing to pay for them?”
At those words, Ling Nianci’s eyes instantly lit up with excitement she could barely contain.
She quickly covered her mouth, but the corners of her lips still lifted uncontrollably. Pretending to be innocent and worried, she slowed her voice and spoke softly, even adding a perfectly timed tremble:
“What do you mean? Who’s in danger? Don’t tell me—it’s my father?”
The translator noticed her unusually excited expression and felt a faint sense of something off. But he quickly dismissed it, assuming it was just panic and emotional collapse over her father.
He only thought they had completely lost composure.
He sneered.
“We’ve already investigated all of you thoroughly. Coach Miao, your team members are extremely close-knit, with deep emotional bonds. So we found Mr. Ling and directly gave him an ultimatum—if he refused to cooperate and leave with us, we would immediately target his daughter. He agreed instantly.”
As he spoke, undisguised contempt filled his eyes.
They had already looked into it: that man was just a pretty boy living off a rich woman. He had started dating a woman ten years older than him in his teens—clearly someone who had no ambition whatsoever.
Of course he would obey immediately when threatened.
Sure enough, the moment they issued the threat, Ling Yunxiao had obediently followed them without any resistance at all.
Wen Xiuning frowned slightly, a complicated expression appearing on her delicate face.
“Where are you planning to take him?”
“Teacher Wen, there’s no need to worry,” the translator said with a fake smile, his tone full of smug control.
“We’ve arranged for Mr. Ling to be taken to a remote, isolated location. It’s extremely safe there.”
“He’s currently with Mr. Hawkins. He won’t suffer any harm at all.”
“Our conditions are very simple: hand over the ruby, and I’ll immediately order his release.
If you think about it carefully, this isn’t a loss for you. After all, what you bought was the bronze turtle itself, not the ruby. We’ll leave you the bronze turtle; we’ll take the ruby. Everything that happened tonight will be written off—neither side owes the other anything.”
He delivered this twisted logic of reversing right and wrong with complete confidence, as if he were the one standing on moral ground.
At the same time, a trace of ruthlessness quietly surfaced deep in his eyes.
He knew very well that Hawkins had now basically gone all-in.
Hawkins understood that this incident had already been a complete failure, and his reputation in China was essentially beyond repair.
Once the chairman learned of this, he would only be utterly disappointed in him.
So before leaving, it would be better to take the ruby back. At worst, they would simply never come to China again. What was so special about this “broken” Chinese market anyway? They could just abandon it.
After all, that billion was still enough for Hawkins to enjoy life for several years—and as his lackey, he could still get a share of it.
The chairman was, after all, Hawkins’ biological father. After a few years passed and things cooled down, he could slowly smooth things over…
In short, they absolutely had to get that ruby back.
Ling Nianci leaned toward Miao Yunyou and whispered:
“Wait… wasn’t my dad fighting that ‘Left Guardian’ earlier? A lot of tourists saw it and even posted videos online. Didn’t they see any of that? What were they thinking?”
Although Ling Yunxiao had lost that time to Luo Xinglan, anyone with eyes could tell that his combat strength was off the charts—he was definitely not someone to be trifled with.
Miao Yunyou also whispered back:
“I said it was a special performance, with wire work. I even claimed it used the latest Hollywood stunt tech from the US. Maybe they just have too much confidence in their own country and actually believed it.”
Ling Nianci: “Wow, that’s really unfortunate~”
“But seriously, Sect Master, this villain is actually way better than that Hawkins guy.”
“Even when he says such shameless things, he delivers them so smoothly, like he himself believes it. That kind of villain is great—the payoff when he gets slapped down is much more satisfying.”
This kind of villain really has more flavor—the face-slapping is more satisfying, more complete!
Miao Yunyou agreed:
“Exactly. Real villains don’t even realize they’re doing evil. They think they’re right and that everything is someone else’s fault.”
“A villain with stable mentality, firm conviction, thick skin, and self-consistent logic—that’s a good villain.”
“High professional standards. Approved!”
