Just a single move from Wei Zijun had left the entire production crew in shock. The staff and director were still reeling, their eyes blank as they stared at him, full of awe.
The director, naturally, was immediately inspired, thinking of all the extra shots he could film.
The screenwriter nodded eagerly in agreement.
Miao Yunyou, who was already bored, watched the crew get excited. When the director hurriedly added, “Miao Boss, don’t worry—the costs for the extra shots will be covered by us. We won’t let you take a loss. The cameo fees are also separate—we’ll treat them fairly!”
Miao Yunyou immediately relaxed, waving her hand and saying cheerfully: “Alright, alright. No one else has anything to do anyway. If you want to film extra shots, go ahead—film however you want.”
That settled it. For the entire day, every corner of the resort—the dojo, mountain paths, and courtyard nooks—became a filming location. The crew was busy nonstop, carrying cameras back and forth, adjusting lights, setting up props, and testing equipment, barely having a moment to drink water.
During a break, the director happened to glance at the resort’s stables and his eyes lit up.
Inside were several Akhal-Teke horses, their coats glossy, posture proud, limbs strong, eyes bright and lively. From a distance, they seemed bathed in sunlight, looking so majestic it was impossible to look away.
Not filming them would be such a waste!
(Of course, the horses had their own appearance fees—more expensive than humans.)
The crew quickly carried their equipment over, following Miao Yunyou to the stables, filming carefully. Shen Yan stood by, occasionally stroking a horse’s mane to calm it, ensuring it wasn’t startled and would not disrupt the shoot.
Filming went smoothly, and everyone was immersed in the busy work—until suddenly, a thunderous explosion came from the direction of the back mountain—
“BOOM!”
The explosion was deafening, shaking the ground slightly!
Even the Akhal-Teke horses were startled. One that had been calm went berserk, rearing up, snorting loudly, spinning in place, desperately trying to break free from its reins. It looked about to charge out of the stables, potentially hitting staff and equipment, causing injuries and damage. Chaos erupted instantly.
At that critical moment, Shen Yan reacted with lightning speed. Eyes sharp, he dashed to the horse, gripping the reins tightly.
Veins on his arms stood out slightly, his feet planted firmly like the roots of a tree. No matter how the horse struggled or snorted, it didn’t budge. He held the reins while speaking gently to calm the animal.
Gradually, under Shen Yan’s steady control, the horse calmed down, ceasing its frantic movements, though it still shook its mane and snorted, eyes wide with fear.
The director finally recovered, face pale, heart pounding wildly. He looked at Miao Yunyou, panic and confusion in his voice: “Miao Boss! What… what’s happening?! What’s going on back there?! A gas explosion???”
As he spoke, he instinctively glanced toward the back mountain, eyes filled with fear, dreading another blast.
“No, that’s impossible. There’s no gas pipeline there at all!” Miao Yunyou was equally baffled, her earlier ease and relaxation completely gone.
Wait…
That direction was exactly where the secret passage exit was!
“Wait a moment, let me check the surveillance,” Miao Yunyou said quickly, forcing down her panic. She pulled out her phone and tapped into the resort’s monitoring system, her fingers flying across the screen as she quickly located the camera covering the secret passage exit.
But the moment the feed loaded, a chill shot straight from her feet to the top of her head—
The camera at the secret passage exit was offline. The screen was pitch black; nothing could be seen.
All the other cameras were clearly working fine!
The network signal was full, the power supply normal—there was only one possibility:
This camera had been deliberately sabotaged!
Miao Yunyou forced herself to stay calm, quickly coming up with an excuse in her mind. She forced a strained smile and said to the panicked director and crew: “It’s nothing, everyone, don’t panic. Probably one of the old devices I stored at the back mountain spontaneously caught fire. It’s nothing serious.”
The director frowned: “What devices?”
Miao Yunyou: “…Uh, just a few old washing machines.”
As she spoke, she waved her hand, trying to sound relaxed, soothing everyone: “As long as no one goes toward the back mountain, there won’t be any danger.
I’ll go check it out and handle it.
You all should head back to your rooms and rest a bit—guest rooms are safer. Once I’ve dealt with it, I’ll call you back to continue filming.”
But the director clearly didn’t grasp the urgency of the situation.
He furrowed his brows, looked carefully, and didn’t see any smoke, so he relaxed slightly.
Still, his face was troubled, and his tone carried reluctance: “Miao Boss, that won’t do! We’ve already set up all the equipment—lights, props, everything’s ready. If we go back to the guest rooms now, we’ll have to rebuild the set later, wasting a lot of time. Besides, the back mountain is far from here, and it was just one explosion sound. There’s probably nothing serious. You take a few people to check, and we’ll continue filming here for a bit. Once we finish, we’ll head back to the guest rooms, okay?”
In his mind, the director was calculating: the celebrity guests had already checked out, and the remaining crew were all here. The back mountain was far from the set, so even if something happened, it wouldn’t affect anyone. There was no need to make a fuss and delay filming.
And really, it was just a few old washing machines—what could go wrong if they exploded?
Worse than having no footage for the show? Definitely not.
Seeing the director so stubborn, Miao Yunyou sighed inwardly. She had no choice but to suppress her anxiety and turned to Shen Yan beside her, lowering her voice, her tone full of instruction: “You stay here. Make sure everyone is safe. Keep an eye on them—don’t let anyone go toward the back mountain. Once they finish filming, take them back to the lodging area immediately. Absolutely no mistakes. Understand?”
Shen Yan nodded slightly, his gaze firm, voice calm and resolute: “Don’t worry, Boss.”
