When Li Feng saw clearly what the baby was holding, he was nearly scared out of his soul. What the baby had in hand, with its bright and vivid colors, was actually a snake about the thickness of a finger. The baby was holding it roughly at the “seven-inch” spot (where snakes are most vulnerable). Although the snake hadn’t bitten the baby, its pink forked tongue was flicking in and out, and its two black eyes were cold and menacing. The thin tail end of the snake was coiled around the baby’s arm. Meanwhile, the baby was laughing happily, holding the snake.
Li Feng, upon realizing what it was, immediately cried out. He didn’t even know if the snake was poisonous. He had heard people say that the more colorful a snake, the more venomous it is. But then again, someone else had once said the less eye-catching a snake is, the more dangerous it is, and that brightly colored snakes are often harmless.
Right now, he didn’t think—he just wanted to grab the snake and throw it far away. It was simply too scary and too dangerous. He was personally terrified of snakes, but compared to the potential danger to the baby, that fear was completely forgotten. He didn’t know how to handle snakes—he’d heard the phrase “grab it by the seven inches,” but he had no idea where that spot actually was. All he could do was quickly snatch the snake from the baby’s hand and fling it far away.
Just as he reached out and grabbed the snake, it suddenly lunged and bit Li Feng on the wrist. He violently shook his hand, flinging the snake away. At that moment, Nuo, who had already prepared a stick and some stones when he saw the snake, smashed it directly on the head just as Li Feng tossed it. With a powerful strike, he crushed the snake’s head into a pulp, leaving only the body twitching and coiling on the ground.
Mo and the others were all stunned by the scene. As soon as Li Feng flung off the snake, Ka rushed forward. Without caring whether it was poisonous or not, he grabbed Li Feng’s hand and began sucking the blood out of the wound. Li Feng himself hadn’t even felt anything yet or figured out if the bite was poisonous, but Ka had already gotten in two full mouthfuls of blood before Li Feng snapped out of it.
“Uh… Ka, that’s enough. Maybe it’s not poisonous?” Li Feng said, stammering a bit. His wound didn’t feel particularly painful, but Ka’s sucking hurt a little. That kind of reverse suction drawing blood out was bound to hurt.
At that moment, Li walked in. He hadn’t even put down what he was carrying before instinctively looking around for Li Feng. His eyes swept the room and immediately spotted several people clustered together, with Ka in the middle, head down, holding Li Feng’s hand as if ‘kissing’ it. Since Ka had his back to Li, Li couldn’t clearly see what was going on. He instinctively assumed Ka was kissing Li Feng. Combined with how it looked visually, his suspicion seemed confirmed.
The key part was that Nuo was also there, holding onto Li Feng’s other arm, while using his other hand to grip Ka’s arm as if trying to pull him away. Even the nearby kids—Mo, Period, and the others—were crowding around, grabbing at either Li Feng or Ka. Most notably, Li Feng was holding the baby in his arms, with a look of discomfort and slight fear on his face. So from Li’s point of view, it was obvious: Ka had forced a kiss, and everyone was trying to intervene.
Li dropped everything in his hands and charged over, yanking Ka away and punching him hard in the face.
Ka was completely stunned, and everyone else was shocked by Li’s sudden action. No one even reacted to stop him. Ka, totally unprepared, took the punch full force. He staggered and fell straight to the ground, nose bleeding, the corner of his mouth split. Just as he tried to get up, Li shoved him back down.
Only then did Li Feng and the others start to realize what was happening. But Li Feng, with one arm holding the startled baby and the other still bleeding from the snake bite, couldn’t manage to pull Li away, so he just shouted, “Li! Stop! What the hell are you doing?!”
Li Feng had no idea why Li had come in and immediately started attacking Ka. Judging by the look on Ka’s injured face, Li hadn’t held back at all.
While Li Feng shouted, Bu, who had followed behind, and Nuo rushed to pull Li off. Period and the other kids also grabbed at Li’s arms, trying to pull him back, shouting, “Why are you hitting my big brother? Let go! What are you doing?!”
Li was finally pulled away but gave Ka one last fierce glare. Ka, holding his injured face in confusion, started getting angry too. What the hell was going on? He hadn’t even had time to explain and was already beaten up?
“Hey! What’s wrong with you?! I told you to stop, didn’t you hear me?! You just kept hitting—what, are you addicted to it or something?!” Li Feng was furious. The whole thing didn’t make sense. Why was Ka beaten for no reason?
Li turned around, his face also full of anger, glaring at Li Feng with a trace of frustration and something unspoken flickering in his eyes. “I heard you.”
He had heard, but he was even angrier. Ka, that bastard, kissed Li Feng—and Li Feng still defended him! He had to beat the guy up.
“You heard me but still didn’t stop? Why the hell did you hit him for no reason?” Li Feng was completely baffled. Li was usually calm—how had he suddenly become so unreasonable?
“Hey! Why did you hit me?!” Ka, now helped up by Period, his brother, and Nuo, came over, holding his cheek and a bloody nose. Period and the others were also glaring fiercely at Li.
Li didn’t say anything, just looked at them, and was about to turn and head back to the room when Li Feng grabbed his arm and said, “What are you doing? Explain before you leave!” How could someone be like this—hitting someone and then just walking away without a word? And on top of that, Ka got punched while trying to save him! No matter how you look at it, they owed Ka an explanation.
Even Nuo and Bu blocked Li from leaving. Li turned back and looked at Li Feng holding his arm. As he lowered his head, he happened to see the two still-bleeding fang marks on Li Feng’s wrist. His expression immediately changed from the cold, dark look from earlier to one of pale panic.
Without saying a word, he bent down and lifted both Li Feng and the baby in his arms and rushed into the house, leaving the others stunned. What was with this sudden panic? Could he not say something before acting? The others, including Ka who was still bleeding, hurried in after him—Ka’s wounds still needed tending to.
Being carried princess-style in Li’s arms, Li Feng was even more bewildered. He let out a surprised cry and forgot what he’d meant to say. Instinctively, he hugged the baby tightly. Li placed him gently on the bed in the room. Just as Li Feng was about to speak, Li—who had stubbornly refused to talk earlier—anxiously asked first, “Are you okay? What happened? You were bitten by a snake?” He grabbed Li Feng’s arm, stared intently at the fang marks, squeezed some blood out, and immediately lowered his head to suck on it.
Li Feng screamed inwardly—what is this? The blood was clearly still red—bright red, even redder than that flag—yet Li was still sucking on it as if it were poisoned. It hurt like hell! It wasn’t the kind of pain from snake venom, nor the sharp sting from when Ka had sucked the wound earlier. This time it was more of a tingling itch, and he could even feel the warmth of Li’s breath and the rough texture of his tongue against his skin. When Li raised his head to spit out the blood and then lowered it again to continue, Li Feng was stunned by his sharply defined, handsome face, deep black eyes, high nose bridge, and blood-stained red lips. Plus, that pale face, possibly from worry—it all made Li Feng suddenly think of a vampire.
One of those elegant, mysterious, and seductive creatures. Li Feng was entranced, momentarily forgetting everything he wanted to ask, simply staring at Li who was still focused on his arm.
“Li, that’s enough. If you keep sucking, there won’t be any blood left,” Nuo called from the door, looking at the pool of blood on the floor and getting concerned. “The blood is still bright red—clearly not poisoned. What are you doing, getting addicted or something?”
Snapping back to his senses, Li Feng quickly looked away from Li and tried to pull his arm back. Unfortunately, Li was gripping it tightly, making it impossible to move. “Li, let go. Just rinse it with salt water and it’ll be fine.” Judging from the wound and blood, the snake probably wasn’t venomous. Unfortunately, they’d already sucked a good amount of blood out—who knew how long it would take to recover that?
“Yeah, hurry and rinse it. I’ve already prepared the salt water—Bu’s using it to clean Ka’s wounds,” Nuo added lazily. Li had been way too impulsive. Though he hadn’t said anything yet, Nuo could already guess the situation—he probably thought Ka had taken advantage of Li Feng and exploded in a jealous rage.
“Uh, how’s Ka doing?” Li Feng asked guiltily. Ka had looked pretty bad earlier, with his face covered in blood. Hopefully, Li hadn’t broken his nose or anything. Out here, with no doctors around, that would be a serious injury.
Seeing Li Feng’s worried and guilty expression, Nuo didn’t tease him this time and just answered honestly, “He’s fine. Nothing major—just a nosebleed. Probably bit the inside of his mouth a little, so there’s some blood. And the corner of his mouth was split too.”
Li Feng was stunned. That didn’t sound like “nothing major” at all. If anything, Nuo’s description made it sound worse than it had looked. He felt deeply uneasy—it was all Li’s fault for punching without even asking what was going on. “Hey, you still haven’t said why you hit Ka,” Li Feng turned and asked Li.
“He kissed your hand just now. What was I supposed to do?” Li answered with righteous indignation, completely forgetting that Li Feng had been injured and Ka was probably just trying to suck out the venom.
Li Feng was speechless. Beside him, Nuo burst into laughter—he knew it would be something like this. Just then, Bu, who had cleaned Ka’s wounds using the method Li Feng had taught them, arrived at the door with the others, all in time to hear Li’s explanation.
Ka immediately opened his mouth to protest his innocence. He was absolutely innocent! He liked women, not men! He was just here hoping to scrounge a meal and happened to try to help someone out—how did he end up in this mess?
Ugh, he hadn’t even gotten his meal yet and he’d already taken a heavy punch to the face. Would he even be able to eat after this?
“You idiot! How could that even be possible? He was trying to suck out the venom!” Li Feng was absolutely furious. How could Li be so dumb? With so many people around, did he really think Ka would try something? And even if he had—what, Li Feng wouldn’t be able to dodge?
(Cringe. Honestly, that wasn’t even the point! Ka never had any such intention—he’s a virgin who’s been dreaming of finding a beautiful woman to marry and settle down with.) If Ka knew what Li Feng was thinking right now, he’d probably scream “Injustice!” three times and run off to beat the grievance drum for real.
Li also realized he had hit the wrong person, but he still muttered under his breath, “How was I supposed to know? Even if I did know, I would’ve hit him anyway. Who told him to grab your arm and just start sucking? Couldn’t he check if it was poisonous first? It was obviously a non-venomous snake.” He completely forgot that just moments ago, he himself had acted like a fool, not even bothering to check before bending down and sucking out more blood than Ka had.
“What are you muttering about?” Li Feng smacked Li’s arm. “Go apologize to him!”
“Well, if it’s not too serious, then just stay and have dinner!” Li looked at Ka, whose face was bruised and swollen.
Li Feng rolled his eyes—was that supposed to be an apology? He couldn’t even say ‘sorry’? “Ka, I’m really sorry. I originally invited you here for a meal, but you ended up getting punched. Don’t take it personally, Li didn’t mean to. Make sure you eat a lot later to recover.” Li Feng hurried to apologize for Li, since the guy clearly had no clue how to properly say sorry.
Ka tried to smile, but it tugged at the wound on his face and made him hiss in pain. He could only nod with a bitter smile—this meal wasn’t going to be easy to enjoy. Could he even chew with that face?
“By the way, how did you get bitten by a snake?” Li asked while helping Li Feng clean his wound with saltwater. They didn’t have gauze or anything, but Li Feng remembered a wild herb called “bloodsweat head,” which could disinfect and stop bleeding. As a kid, they used to gather some whenever someone got scraped or hurt. Normally it was ignored like a weed, but it became hard to find when actually needed. Fortunately, in this wild, primitive place filled with overgrown grass, there were plenty. Worried the others wouldn’t recognize it, Li Feng went himself to the fence and picked a few, mashed them up, and applied the paste to the fang marks on his wrist.
Meanwhile, the real ‘culprit’ behind all of this—the little bun (baby)—was still happily rolling around on the bed, completely unaware of the danger he’d caused by grabbing the snake. What if it had been poisonous? There would’ve been no time for regrets. Just thinking about it made Li Feng break into a cold sweat. Thankfully, the snake wasn’t venomous, so the bite he took was worth it. It was his own carelessness—he forgot how dangerous the wilderness could be, unlike the concrete jungle he’d grown used to. Here, snakes, bugs, and rats were plentiful.
This was a lesson and a warning: the baby was still young, and so were Mo and the others. The fault lay entirely with the adults for not being careful. Still, he needed to give the little bun a ‘lesson.’ How could he just grab a snake without knowing anything? His little arms and legs weren’t even as thick as the snake! If he’d been bitten, those fang marks would’ve been awful.
Li Feng scooped up the baby, who was still trying to roll over like a little turtle, and gave his tiny bottom a few light pats. “Baby was naughty, trying to grab a snake! Let’s see if you dare next time. If you want something, just tell Daddy. Daddy will get it for you.” His mock scolding made everyone laugh, easing the previously tense atmosphere.
Even the baby thought Daddy was playing a game. He stood on Li Feng’s leg, bouncing like he was dancing, twisting his little butt and legs, making happy sounds of “ah ah” and “ya ya” as if singing along.
Li watched from the side, moved—his baby could now roll over by himself and even bounce around! He took the baby from Li Feng’s arms—Li Feng’s arm was still hurt, so it was better if he held the baby. And in Li’s arms, the baby bounced even more enthusiastically. Although this Daddy didn’t usually hold him much, the baby clearly liked him and didn’t resist at all. In fact, he always got excited when Li held him.
Li clearly felt the baby’s wiggling strength—the kicks were strong enough to make his legs ache a little. It wasn’t painful for him, but it showed how much the baby had grown—so strong already!
“Baby, baby, say ‘Father’—our baby is going to be a warrior one day! Look how strong you are already!” Li tickled the baby’s soft cheeks with his stubbly chin. It didn’t hurt, just made the baby giggle and squeal, clutching Li’s arm and bouncing even more joyfully.
Everyone nearby was laughing too. Even Juhao, who usually avoided Li, came over and pinched the baby’s little hand, grinning. Mo stood on the other side. The baby had become a little ball of joy—one clumsy move could make the whole group laugh for ages.
“Hey, alright, let’s eat! I originally invited Ka and them over for dinner,” Li Feng quickly said. He had already cooked before checking on the baby and just wanted to wash up and wait for everyone to arrive. Who knew all this drama would happen? The food must be getting cold—it was time to eat.
Nuo and the others immediately rushed out. Li had finally prepared a decently hearty meal—they needed to hurry and serve it. Their earlier panic had made them forget, but now with Nuo taking the lead, the three little ones followed behind, eager for food too.
Li held Li Feng’s hand, baby in his other arm, walking behind with a smile. The scene was so lively and warm. The baby, watching Mo and the others running around and scrambling to serve food, bounced with excitement in Li’s arms. He nearly slipped, and Li had to pat his bottom to calm him down.
