The agent opened his mouth wide in a silent scream, but no sound came out. Cheng Qiao carefully examined Haidong Qing. Seeing the vicious, icy look it cast toward the agent, she knew its eyesight had recovered.

“Let’s go. Take me down the mountain first so my friends can come over, then bring me to see your babies.”

Haidong Qing flapped its wings and lifted Cheng Qiao straight into the air—but instead of heading down the mountain, it carried her to the summit. There, amid sheer cliffs, a crude bird’s nest trembled in the wind.

“You idiot,” Cheng Qiao scolded. “You built your nest here—are you trying to get your babies killed?”

Three chicks poked their heads out of the nest, chirping loudly for food. As they flapped about, the nest swayed precariously, on the verge of collapse.

Haidong Qing felt a little embarrassed. Everything had happened too fast. The chicks’ mother had disliked how flimsy the nest was; after hatching the babies, she’d flown off, abandoning them entirely—a heartless bird.

Cheng Qiao shot it a sidelong glance. Ordinary Haidong Qing didn’t grow this large. Could it be that this male had forcibly mated with the female, and she’d taken the chance to escape while he was out hunting?

As it turned out, Cheng Qiao’s guess was spot on. Even in the bird world, the strong ruled. Haidong Qing was a reckless brute who didn’t understand tenderness at all. A female forced to lay eggs would of course flee the moment she had the chance.

She guided the Haidong Qing closer to the nest. With a wave of her hand, the nest vanished into her space. Cheng Qiao let out a sigh of relief, and the Haidong Qing quietly did the same.

That was why it had brought her here—it wanted her to take its babies into that precious place, where they’d be far safer than growing up outside.

“Alright. Now can you take me to find my friends?”

Cheng Qiao didn’t blame the Haidong Qing. It was worried about its children’s safety, and earlier it had already pushed itself to the limit by obeying her and going to rescue Hu Lata.

Growing impatient, Hantong was already preparing to head up the mountain. She suspected Cheng Qiao knew Hu Lata was in the Qilian Mountains and had rushed over—perhaps she should go check on Hu Lata.

Li Huan didn’t stop her. He wasn’t a match for Hantong, and he had no standing to stop her anyway. But he was anxious, worried that something might have happened to Cheng Qiao.

When he saw the Haidong Qing flying toward them from afar, Li Huan was overjoyed—so long as Cheng Qiao was safe, everything was fine. Hantong also spotted it and halted, staying alert, afraid the bird might try to drop droppings on her head again.

Her concern wasn’t unfounded. The moment the Haidong Qing saw Hantong, it remembered how she’d reached for her gun. It had seen how Uncle Lata had been frozen in place by that thing pointing at him. Sure enough—this was a bad woman.

Fortunately, Cheng Qiao had already figured out what it was about to do. She grabbed its feathers tightly, preventing it from flying in Hantong’s direction. Left with no choice, the sea eagle landed beside Li Huan.

“Qiao, are you okay?”

“I’m fine. But Sister Hantong, you’ll need to go up the mountain once. Someone tried to ambush Uncle Hu Lata. The two attackers have already been subdued by Uncle Hu Lata. Please send someone to take them away.”

Hantong’s expression changed drastically. Without a second thought, she turned and ran up the mountain. After just a few steps, she vanished from sight. Li Huan clicked his tongue—this speed was even faster than Xiao Dan’s vehicle.

Once Hantong left, Cheng Qiao grabbed Li Huan’s hand, placing her fingers on his pulse. Instantly, everything inside his body became clear to her.

There were two streams of energy battling inside him. One red stream was the meditative qi Li Huan had been cultivating; it was somewhat similar to the energy inside Hu Lata. The other was white and had been forced back to the dantian, with almost nowhere left to escape.

No wonder Li Huan had become more feminine—the cold toxin had frozen his male hormones. Only when the red energy completely devoured the white cold toxin would he return to normal.

“Come, I’ll take you up the mountain. A few hundred meters up there’s a shack. We’ll rest inside for a bit.”

“Okay.”

Hand in hand, they walked up the mountain. Before long, they saw the shack. Xiao Dan’s father had already led people to repair it; even the door had been replaced.

Pushing the door open, Li Huan saw that the shack not only had a heated kang bed but also pots, bowls, and utensils. It was obvious people came here often. When he learned it belonged to Xiao Dan’s home village, he finally felt at ease.

“Are you cold? Do you want to soak in some hot water?”

“I’m fine. If we’re staying overnight, we’ll need to heat the kang. But right now, I’m hungry.”

Cheng Qiao smiled, moved a nearby table next to the kang, and with a slight motion of her hand, soups, dishes, rice, and dumplings appeared on the table.

She then went out and brought back a bundle of firewood, lighting the kang directly. There was plenty of coal in her space; the firewood was just for kindling.

Feeling the warmth beneath him, Li Huan finally relaxed his muscles. Earlier, he hadn’t wanted Cheng Qiao to worry, so he stubbornly insisted he wasn’t cold—but in truth, the mountain wind had chilled him to the bone.

Once the room warmed up and Li Huan had almost finished eating, Cheng Qiao waved her hand again, and a bucket of boiling-hot water from her space appeared in the room. She urged Li Huan to soak quickly so he could meditate afterward.

Li Huan didn’t hesitate. It had taken great effort to get his body to this point—he couldn’t afford to ruin it through momentary bravado.

Since they were outdoors, he bathed wearing close-fitting clothes. That way, even if someone came in, it wouldn’t be awkward. Besides, Cheng Qiao had spare clothes for him in her treasure space.

Cheng Qiao warmed his clean clothes on the kang, laid out bedding, and then went outside to keep watch while he bathed and meditated.

The night passed quietly. At dawn the next day, Hantong entered the shack. Li Huan was still meditating, while Cheng Qiao was outside by the stream cleaning wild chickens and rabbits—prey brought back by the sea eagle.

Despite its aloof demeanor, the sea eagle treated the children very well. No one knew how many wild chickens and rabbits it had caught and tossed to Cheng Qiao, asking her to help feed its chicks.

“Cheng Qiao, thank you once again for saving Uncle Hu Lata. Could I trouble you to stay here a couple more days? I’ll go find people to come and take them away.”

Cheng Qiao had no objections. For her and Li Huan, they could survive anywhere. As Hantong was about to leave, Cheng Qiao grabbed her and handed her a basket filled with food and water.

“Great kindness needs no words of thanks. I’ll be back.”

Two days later, Xiao Dan came to pick up Cheng Qiao. Hantong had also brought Hu Lata down from the mountain. Meditating deep in the mountains might feel close to nature, but it was dangerous.

“Second Sister-in-law, I’m heading back with Xiao Dan this time. He’s going to get married. I’m going to pick up goods, and I’ll also bring Lele back—she’s graduating this year.”

“That’s wonderful, finally graduating. Oh right, help bring in some more goods for Cheng Li too. His general store is already under construction. By the time you return, it’ll be ready to open.”

Cheng Qiao quickly handed Guoqing ten thousand yuan. Guoqing stared at the thick stack of money, not knowing how to react. Xiao Dan, quick-witted as ever, immediately laughed.

“What? Cheng Li opened a general store? Congratulations!”
