“Ruoruo.”
The voice called out to Su Ruo with a smile.
Su Ruo hadn’t expected to run into Liang Bo’an here. For a moment, she was taken aback, only snapping back to reality when she heard his voice.
“Bo’an.” Su Ruo smiled as she responded.
Nearly seven years had passed, and neither of them expected to meet like this, so casually on the street.
“Long time no see. I hope all has been well.” Liang Bo’an’s smile widened as he walked over, his tone carrying a teasing note.
“Yes, long time no see. You’re still… so charming.”
Su Ruo paused briefly before speaking. What she actually thought was “handsome,” but using “handsome” to describe a man felt a bit off—though Liang Bo’an really was quite beautiful.
Nearly seven years had passed, and his face hadn’t changed much. Yet the passage of time had refined his aura—he seemed calmer, more composed, no longer flamboyant as before. It couldn’t be denied that he looked even more attractive now.
“You’re still as good with words as ever,” Liang Bo’an said with a joyful tone, then glanced at Xi Zi standing beside Su Ruo. “Is this your son?”
“Yes, his nickname is Xi Zi.” Su Ruo held his hand and looked at him. “Xi Zi, say ‘Uncle.’”
“Uncle.”
Xi Zi looked up at Liang Bo’an, his innocent face serious yet polite, carrying a certain reserved coolness. He looked so earnest that Liang Bo’an couldn’t help but laugh.
“No wonder you’re Xi Yuechen’s son. Just like him—already so exceptional at such a young age.”
Su Ruo chuckled at the “exceptional” remark. “Yes, he really is. He’s basically a miniature version of his dad. I’m powerless against him.”
“Just like his dad—that’s good. He’ll have a bright future. You can worry less.”
Liang Bo’an’s smile was soft, and his eyes calm, no longer shadowed by the melancholy he used to feel whenever thinking of Su Ruo and Xi Yuechen.
“That’s true. By the way, why did you finally decide to come back? Seven years… and you managed to stay away all that time?”
Su Ruo’s tone carried a hint of reproach. She clearly disapproved of how Liang Bo’an had silently left back then—and for so many years.
“I’ve come back, haven’t I? In a few days, we’ll have a get-together. I’ll also introduce you to a couple of people.”
When Su Ruo saw him mention introducing people, her expression softened instantly. The smile that lifted her lips was dazzling.
Peach blossoms for ten miles couldn’t compare, she thought inwardly. This man was simply bewitching. How could such a perfect face belong to a man? What a pity.
“So secretive… who is it? Could it be your girlfriend?”
Su Ruo suppressed her admiration and pursed her lips in a smile. Seven years had passed; surely he must have someone by now.
Just as Liang Bo’an was about to answer, a sudden voice interrupted.
“Daddy!”
It was a little girl’s voice—clear and ethereal, like a yellow warbler emerging from the valley.
Su Ruo thought to herself that the girl’s voice was very pleasant, and she turned her head toward the sound.
“Xiaoci, come here.”
Su Ruo heard Liang Bo’an call out in a loud voice.
Soon, she saw a little girl running up from the entrance of a nearby shop. She wore a white dress, had her hair in a high ponytail, and looked quite adorable.
When the girl reached them, Su Ruo got a clear look at her face and froze for a moment. She hadn’t expected this little girl to be calling Liang Bo’an “Daddy.”
Su Ruo was stunned just looking at the girl’s face. She was… unbelievably beautiful.
Six-year-old Xiaoci had grown a bit since she was two; her facial features had largely settled.
Both Liang Bo’an and Qi Ran were exceptionally attractive. Whoever Xiaoci inherited her looks from, she was already a little beauty. Moreover, her face combined the best traits of both, making her all the more striking.
As she grew, Xiaoci’s peach blossom eyes increasingly resembled Liang Bo’an’s, while her nose and lips were like Qi Ran’s—perfectly sculpted, exquisite, as if from a fairy tale. Her delicate, dazzling face made her seem otherworldly.
For such a small child to already be so stunning… what a remarkable beauty she would grow into.
An absolute femme fatale in the making, Su Ruo thought silently.
“This is…” Su Ruo muttered, admiration clear on her face. Then she suddenly realized the child had just called Liang Bo’an “Daddy.”
“Is this… your daughter?”
Su Ruo only now confirmed, a bit slow on the uptake.
“Yes, her name is Xiaoci.” Liang Bo’an noticed Su Ruo’s astonishment, a hint of reflection flashing through his mind, quickly replaced by a surge of pride.
After all, it was his daughter who was breathtakingly exceptional. As a father, he felt an undeniable sense of honor.
Before Liang Bo’an could instruct Xiaoci to call Su Ruo “Auntie,” she had already spoken up.
“Hello, Auntie! My name is Qi Chuci, but you can call me Xiaoci,” she said, tilting her little head with a bright smile. “Auntie, you’re so pretty!”
Xiaoci’s cheerful and outgoing personality, along with her immediate fondness for this beautiful new Auntie, made her naturally open and unreserved.
Su Ruo instantly liked Xiaoci; the little girl was irresistibly endearing.
“Xiaoci, you’re making Auntie blush with your compliment.”
Su Ruo laughed heartily. Receiving praise from such a small child was truly amusing.
“No, Auntie, I’m telling the truth! You’re one of the two prettiest people in my heart!”
Xiaoci said this matter-of-factly, tilting her head seriously. Her remarkable face, paired with her playful innocence, made her irresistibly cute.
“One of the two?”
At this moment, Xi Zi—who had been silent like air—suddenly spoke, surprising Su Ruo.
Her son was usually quiet, rarely spoke at home, and even more reserved outside. He never initiated conversation, especially with children, toward whom he always displayed a distant coolness.
So what was going on now? Xiaoci was not only a stranger but also the kind of delicate “little brat” he normally ignored. And yet he had just spoken? Had he changed?
“You don’t even understand what ‘one of the two’ means? You’re so dumb.”
Xiaoci had been secretly observing this handsome boy, who looked as good as the beautiful Auntie. He was different from other children she had played with, and she wanted to approach him—but he seemed cold.
Xiaoci had already sized up Xi Zi in her mind. After determining this handsome boy wasn’t so easy to get along with, she held back her curiosity and didn’t try to “befriend” him. So she was a little surprised, then pleased, when he finally spoke.
He’s not so hard to get along with after all.
But after understanding Xi Zi’s question, Xiaoci’s attitude shifted. The boy didn’t even know what “one of the two” meant. How dumb.
… Dumb…
It was the first time Xi Zi had ever been called dumb. He couldn’t quite accept it, his eyes widened, lips pressed tight, face full of incredulous astonishment. His rare curiosity turned to sulking; he clearly wasn’t happy, feeling wronged.
Even Su Ruo was momentarily stunned. She never imagined the day would come when Xi Zi would be called dumb. With his intelligence, there was absolutely no connection to being dumb.
And just like that, mother and son were both caught off guard.
