In everyone’s minds, Feng Weijia had finally settled down and started taking his career seriously. So they just let him be—why make demands? No one forced him regarding his lifelong matters, and at most his mother would occasionally smile and ask if he had a girl in mind, but she never interfered in his feelings.
First of all, they understood Feng Weijia’s strong-willed nature. In every aspect, he had his own opinions. Others could offer advice, but trying to control him? Looking at the way he’d argued with his father before, it was obvious—impossible.
And considering his previous rebellious streak, who would dare push him into a relationship? If they accidentally triggered his defiance, it could backfire badly. What if the brat decided, just to spite them, that he’d never marry? That was entirely possible—he’d always been stubborn since childhood—so everyone tacitly agreed never to pry into his love life, much less arrange a match for him.
But that wasn’t the only reason. Others may have been hesitant, but his mother or grandfather could have intervened, at least to help him find a partner and settle down sooner. Yet they didn’t. His grandfather never interfered with his grandson’s decisions; whatever his grandson chose was right, and he supported it unconditionally.
His mother, too, refrained from pressure for her own reasons. She knew her son could be difficult, especially with people he didn’t like. Forcing him into an engagement could lead to unhappiness—not just for the girl, but for her son as well. A mother always wants her child to be happy, so she hoped he could find a suitable girl on his own. She didn’t even expect to get a grandson early.
Feng Weijia’s father, meanwhile, was still delighted by the fact that his son had finally turned a corner in life. He didn’t even think about his son’s love life—“A grown man will find a wife eventually. And my son is outstanding; finding a bride will be easy.”
So when Feng Weijia suddenly appeared at a family gathering holding He Wen’s hand and proudly announced, “This is my wife,” it was easy to imagine the shock it caused.
Who in the Feng family didn’t know He Wen? Well, the younger generation all probably knew her. In their social circle, you couldn’t go far without hearing about other families’ children.
Especially Feng Weijia’s mother, Madam Feng. She had a decent relationship with He Wen’s grandmother, sometimes sitting with her socially, and had interacted with He Wen a few times. She had a good impression of her. Having no daughters of her own, she naturally liked girls with grace and beauty. Even the He Wen who sometimes caused headaches for her grandmother had her approval.
As for He Wen’s so-called lack of ladylike manners, Madam Feng didn’t mind at all. Why should a young woman be stiff and formal? She found He Wen lively, cute, and kind-hearted. Though sometimes a bit boisterous, her pure nature made up for it. If she had such a daughter, she’d cherish her dearly—there’d be no room for complaint.
So it’s easy to imagine the shock Madam Feng felt when she saw her son holding He Wen’s hand, introducing her as his wife. Dumbfounded would be an understatement; she just froze.
Her son suddenly had a girlfriend—and one who was the daughter of his friend! The impact was enormous. If her husband hadn’t nudged her later, she might still have been staring blankly.
“That’s a girl from the He family!”
After a moment of silence, Grandfather Feng spoke first. He had only met He Wen twice, but he recognized her immediately.
“Grandfather Feng,”
He Wen’s face burned crimson. She had almost never felt such intense nervousness, not knowing where to place her hands. Though she tried to appear calm, her awkward gaze and flushed cheeks and ears betrayed her.
Being watched by so many elders challenged her composure. Most importantly, they were all Feng Weijia’s elders!
Even in her anxiety, she couldn’t help silently cursing Feng Weijia. Even someone as easygoing as her felt the tension of meeting future in-laws.
“Well, He Wen…” Madam Feng also felt a bit nervous. Suddenly realizing that her son’s wife was, in fact, her daughter-in-law, she grew flustered and hesitant in speech.
“Come, come, sit! Why are you standing there? Sit next to me.”
Madam Feng finally invited He Wen to sit, and the others soon followed suit, bustling with conversation.
Once He Wen sat next to her future mother-in-law, much of her anxiety dissipated, and she even felt a strange sense of relief, allowing her smile to relax a little. At this point, she figured she might as well go with the flow. But she still mentally scolded Feng Weijia for catching her off guard—how could she possibly perform well under such surprise?
“Grandfather, what do you think? Isn’t your grandson impressive?”
Feng Weijia smiled proudly at He Wen sitting beside his mother, full of pride and satisfaction. He thought to himself: Was it easy to get her? Not at all, but Wen Wen still ended up with me. As the ancestors say, nothing in the world is impossible.
“Haha, not bad, not bad, boy!”
Grandfather Feng laughed heartily, patting Feng Weijia on the shoulder. For him, as long as his grandson liked the girl, any choice was fine—provided she had good character. He didn’t expect his grandson would one day bring a girl from the He family to the house, but he was pleasantly surprised.
The He family wasn’t as prominent as the Fengs, but they had good family values. He knew He Wen’s father, who was capable, cultured, and decent. So how could his daughter be any worse? Moreover, He Wen was beautiful and charming—he didn’t know how his grandson had managed to win her over. But seeing his grandson’s obvious affection, he couldn’t help but feel that the two were a perfect match—a real talented man, beautiful woman pairing.
Grandfather Feng could clearly see how much Feng Weijia liked He Wen. Even if his eyesight were failing, the deep affection in his grandson’s eyes for her would be unmistakable.
Seeing how happy his grandson was with He Wen, Grandfather Feng naturally grew even more fond of her.
Feng Weijia was a cherished grandson, almost spoiled. Whatever he did, Grandfather Feng approved of; whatever happened, he would be the first to support him. So it was no wonder he liked He Wen.
