RMM -Chapter 347 Happy Enemies

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 6 min read 347 of 365 3

Su Ruo’s sulk lasted only a short while. Within minutes, a cheerful smile reappeared on her face.

After all, today was such a glorious day—one meant for joy and celebration. Seeing Duan Wei looking so happy, Su Ruo couldn’t hold onto any irritation; her heart was overflowing with delight.

So Su Ruo decided to let bygones be bygones for the moment, to temporarily let Xi Yuechen off the hook, and deal with him after returning home. After all, as the saying goes, “A gentleman’s revenge may wait ten years”—there was no need to rush.

“Military posture, military posture! Scaring people with this all the time… Have you gotten addicted to it? Do you really think I’m paper-thin and will just submit quietly?”

Suddenly, Su Ruo’s spirit lifted again. She silently vowed to eradicate Xi Yuechen’s habit of bullying others by his authority!

However, life rarely goes according to one’s wishes. Not everything would follow Su Ruo’s plans. For instance, standing in a military posture was the only method Xi Yuechen had devised—non-extreme yet effective. How could he give up so easily? Otherwise, how would he establish his authority at home in the future?

The first time Su Ruo was punished with the military posture was a year ago, when Xi Zi (their child) was just one and a half years old.

Naturally, Su Ruo had done something that day to ruffle Xi Yuechen’s calm; otherwise, none of these subsequent events would have happened.

Indeed, Xi Yuechen had been genuinely angered by her behavior that day, yet he was helpless. To scold her? That thought never even crossed his mind—let alone laying a hand on her. Su Ruo, knowing this, continued to act arrogantly, provocatively pushing his buttons.

Then, a frustrated Xi Yuechen had a sudden inspiration: military posture. And so began Su Ruo’s miserable ordeal.

In the military, even the toughest recruits couldn’t withstand the discipline of standing in military posture. After a session, anyone would wilt; there was no faster, more effective way to break their spirit.

Of course, when Xi Yuechen first mentioned “military posture,” Su Ruo hadn’t even reacted with disdain or derision—she had ignored it completely, utterly unconcerned, not taking it seriously at all.

This only fueled Xi Yuechen’s anger further. He realized clearly that his little wife wasn’t afraid of him—not a shred of respect or fear. Look at her now, so nonchalant in the face of his stern, righteous demeanor—how could she remain so casual?

Enraged, Xi Yuechen resolved that today Su Ruo must be made to stand in military posture, to teach her a lesson about absolute obedience to a superior’s orders.

At home, Xi Yuechen rarely showed a domineering side. Su Ruo managed household affairs freely; whatever she wanted to do, he didn’t object. She was obedient to an extreme degree and exceptionally cooperative, treating him gently and considerately—though this was relative to his usually cold personality, not a comparison to other men. By Xi Yuechen’s naturally icy demeanor, there really was no contest.

However, when major matters arose, Su Ruo never acted unilaterally; she consulted Xi Yuechen, sought his opinion, or let him decide. In ordinary life, Su Ruo may run the household, but in major matters, Xi Yuechen remained the head. There was no conflict in this; they had coexisted peacefully for years.

As noted before, Xi Yuechen retained some masculine tendencies, while Su Ruo’s temperament was mild. She had willingly submitted to his early, inadvertent assertiveness, which had led to their harmonious relationship. Over time, their personalities complemented each other, and through long-term adaptation, their partnership had become highly synchronized—thanks in no small part to Xi Yuechen’s own changes. For example, the subtle assertiveness he once displayed in daily interactions had long vanished; he had become unusually gentle toward Su Ruo.

But this didn’t mean his inherent assertiveness had disappeared. After all, it had been forged through the rigors of military life, becoming part of him. So when Su Ruo provocatively challenged his authority and household status, it was only natural that he would respond.

Su Ruo wasn’t deliberately seeking trouble—she just couldn’t resist mischief, pushing limits heedlessly, forgetting entirely the danger posed by the man before her, a man many respected and feared.

Though Xi Yuechen’s authority posed no real threat to Su Ruo, her increasing arrogance led to her open provocation.

Xi Yuechen briefly reflected: Had he been too lenient? So much so that Su Ruo had climbed on top of him, unrestrained? Absolutely intolerable.

Su Ruo never imagined that the ignored words “military posture” would be executed with such severity.

It wasn’t until Xi Yuechen commanded her a second time that she finally registered the order. Her natural reaction was reasonable: she raised an eyebrow and casually asked, “What did you say?”

Then, in the blink of an eye, he grabbed her by the collar and brought her to the wall without giving her a moment to recover.

“Hey! What are you doing?” Su Ruo shouted in shock.

“Stand in military posture,” Xi Yuechen said succinctly, as always—but this truly startled Su Ruo.

“Military posture?” she repeated, incredulous. “Are you joking? I’m not your soldier!”

“Stand properly,” he said, not wanting to argue. Face stern, he commanded, “Attention!”

“I won’t!”

Only now did Su Ruo realize Xi Yuechen meant business. But how could she possibly comply? She immediately protested, frowning.

Xi Yuechen narrowed his eyes, a glint flashing within. Softly, he asked, “Not standing?”

“Of course not,” Su Ruo replied, chin lifted, her gaze carrying a hint of defiance.

Stand in military posture? No way!

Thus began a tense standoff, neither willing to yield.

But… after a few minutes, the outcome became clear—Su Ruo, grimacing in anguish, stood stiffly in military posture. Despite her valiant resistance, she had no choice. After all, how could her arms possibly overpower his legs?

If Xi Yuechen chose to be serious, he had countless methods. Controlling Su Ruo was, after all, a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, Su Ruo learned this lesson through bitter experience. That day, Xi Yuechen had made her stand for a long time, scrutinizing every movement until she broke down—let alone enduring the full duration.

Exhausted, she even thought before bed: Xi Yuechen is such a cunning, ruthless, and unscrupulous bastard! A total villain!

Not long after, Su Ruo once again experienced Xi Yuechen’s household discipline. Standing for so long left her with a deep aversion to military posture, even now, just hearing the words caused her body to tense with soreness…

This was such a painful history that she still remembered it vividly, changing expression at the mention of it. Truly, poor Su Ruo.

Xi Yuechen glanced at her from the corner of his eye, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips, his expression carrying a hint of satisfaction.
