“For management matters, I nominate Shimiao and Qiuqiu. Shimiao has a high enough status, and I feel Qiuqiu has very detailed plans in this area.”
Hearing Luo Baibai’s suggestion, the others also nodded in agreement without objection.
Si Qiu raised her hand to speak. “I’ll be starting school again in a while, so I might not have much time for management.”
“You’re still in school? Which university? What are you studying?” Zhou Liu asked curiously.
“Tsinghua University’s Academy of Fine Arts. My major is fashion design.”
“Ah, not bad—a top student,” Hua Mingzhu praised her before continuing.
“In the early stages, whoever has time can help out where they can. Later on, the management can be handled by Shimiao.”
So everyone took on tasks according to their abilities and their family backgrounds. By the time the meal ended, nearly three hours had passed.
Si Qiu got into the car that had brought her there and headed home. Her fingers rubbed the emerald-green bracelet on her wrist as she thought about the proposal to establish the club. It wasn’t just about accumulating money—more importantly, it was about building connections.
It was also her first step into this social circle. From the unpredictable looks Pei Jingzhou had been giving her these past few days, Si Qiu understood that she had to take advantage of the current convenience and quickly accumulate her own capital.
Otherwise, even if she had knowledge of the future, she would still need enough initial funds to accumulate greater wealth. Just thinking about all that money floating toward her in the future made her feel energized.
Fatigue, grievances—none of that existed in the face of sufficient wealth.
When she returned home, she found that Pei Jingzhou had not come back yet. The housekeeper said he had gone to meet a few friends.
After going upstairs to change clothes, Si Qiu dismissed the nanny and the housekeeper, then went to the kitchen herself. She took some ingredients out from her space and cooked some porridge for Pei Jingzhou, made a few snacks, and prepared some sobering soup.
After that, she took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and sat on the living room sofa with a book, waiting for him.
She waited until 11:30 p.m. before Pei Jingzhou finally returned, supported by the driver.
Hearing the noise, Si Qiu hurried over to help. “Why did you drink so much?”
“Today we met some people from certain departments. Those guys can really drink,” said Liu Jiang, the driver and bodyguard, as he helped Pei Jingzhou onto the sofa.
Seeing him lay Pei Jingzhou down, Si Qiu said, “I’ll take care of him. You should go rest. You must be exhausted after running around all day.”
“Alright, Miss Si. I’ll go rest then. If you need anything, just call me.”
Si Qiu nodded and watched him leave. She walked to the sofa and looked at Pei Jingzhou, whose face was slightly flushed as he kept tugging at his tie. Reaching out, she tapped his cheek.
“Are you trying to make money at the cost of your life? What if you drink so much your stomach gets perforated?”
Then she reached out to loosen his tie and unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt. Feeling more comfortable, he let out a long breath and muttered that he was thirsty.
Si Qiu went to the kitchen, brought over the sobering soup, placed the spoon from the bowl on the coffee table, then helped him sit up with one hand while bringing the bowl to his lips with the other.
She coaxed him softly, “Honey, drink the sobering soup. Once you drink it, your head won’t hurt anymore.”
Pei Jingzhou held the bowl with one hand and finished the sobering soup in one gulp. Like a traveler who still hadn’t quenched his thirst, he said, “Give me another bowl.”
Si Qiu poured him another bowl. After drinking this one, the alcohol in his system eased somewhat, and only then did he realize that the taste in his mouth seemed a bit strange.
Si Qiu quickly poured half a glass of water. Pei Jingzhou took the cup, glanced at her, and said, “You’ve worked hard.”
Si Qiu set the cup down on the coffee table and began massaging his head. “You drank too much, so your head hurts, right? Bear with it for a bit—I’ll massage it for you. It’ll feel better.”
Pei Jingzhou closed his eyes and rested his head on her lap, enjoying the moment. In a soft, gentle voice, Si Qiu started talking about everything she had done that day.
Pei Jingzhou thought to himself that perhaps she did care about him a little after all. It must have been that guy Pei Jingyou who used some trick to deceive her.
Actually, it wasn’t just her—hadn’t his father and quite a few people on the board also been fooled?
Si Qiu was still young and loved money. No one had cared for or loved her since childhood. Being sweet-talked and deceived by a slick, smooth-talking man like that was perfectly normal.
Suddenly, he felt that taking his anger out on her earlier over something that hadn’t even happened yet had been a bit too much.
But just then, Si Qiu’s tone shifted.
“So, husband, I’ve decided to partner with them to open a club. But since they’ll be contributing connections and resources—things that are my weak points—I’m thinking of putting in more money. That way I’ll also have some say among them.”
The heart he had just managed to soothe felt like it had been stabbed again. Pei Jingzhou gritted his teeth inwardly.
Sure enough, a woman’s obedience and tenderness were all for the sake of money.
This wasn’t youthful ignorance—it was driven by profit.
He suddenly felt tightness in his chest and shortness of breath. The headache that had just eased from her cool fingers pressing his temples suddenly flared up again.
Grinding his teeth, the veins on his forehead bulging, he said, “So you just want to ask me for money.”
The moment Si Qiu heard that tone, she knew he was having one of his episodes again.
Honestly, although the two of them were in a boyfriend–girlfriend relationship, they had never talked about the future.
Pei Jingzhou had never even told her much about his family—she didn’t even know how many people were in it.
So Si Qiu had always positioned herself as his lover.
Each taking what they needed—together when it worked, apart when it didn’t.
But now, the way he was questioning her made it sound as if she were some scheming gold-digger trying to swindle his money.
Still, Si Qiu hurriedly coaxed him.
“Husband~ Isn’t it only natural for me to take care of you? You treat me so well—you buy me beautiful clothes, sparkling jewelry, and even gave me a secondary credit card. As for my other request… husband, I really want to be involved. Please support me more.”
The more she spoke, the more coquettish her tone became. Yet Pei Jingzhou only grew more irritated.
Finally, he stood up abruptly.
“I still have work to do in the study. You should go rest first.”
With that, he disappeared up the stairs.
Si Qiu sat upright and thought for a moment before getting up. She went to the kitchen, took out the porridge she had simmered and the pastries she had made, placed them on a tray, and carried them to the study door. Then she knocked.
“Husband, I heard you were drinking outside. I thought you might not have eaten much, so I made some porridge and pastries earlier. Eat a little before working—otherwise your stomach will feel uncomfortable.”
Pei Jingzhou paused while taking off his suit jacket, then tossed it onto a chair.
He was angry at himself.
Just moments ago he had been furious, yet hearing her gentle voice outside the door—and the concern in her words—was already calming him down again.
He didn’t even know when he had become so cheap… or whether Si Qiu’s skills were simply that high.
If that were the case, then how had she failed to keep that idiot Pei Jingyou under control back then?
In the end, she had fallen so miserably.
The study door was suddenly pulled open.
Ignoring the hand he extended toward her, Si Qiu slipped past him into the study and set the tray down on the small coffee table.
