Si Qiu looked up and caught sight of them immediately, narrowing her eyes slightly. “What’s going on with Father and Second Brother? Those expressions don’t look very happy.”
The old master turned his head, saw that the two hadn’t yet withdrawn those looks, and sighed inwardly before heading toward the study.
He left behind a calm instruction, “Jingzhou, take your father and Jiutian to wait for me in the front hall.”
Si Qiu waved at Pei Jingzhou and followed the old master into the study. Uncle Lin began preparing tea and pastries, while the old master pushed a plate of snacks toward her.
“Try these. They’re safe for pregnant women.”
Si Qiu didn’t stand on ceremony. She picked one up and popped it straight into her mouth. Seeing this, a hint of amusement surfaced deep in the old master’s eyes.
He then took out a document from the drawer, placed it on the table, and pushed it in front of her. “Everything I promised you is there. Stop thinking about anything else and focus on taking good care of your pregnancy.”
Si Qiu took out a handkerchief, wiped her hands, and carefully flipped through the document. Right in front of him, she took out a pen and signed her name.
Then she patted her belly. “Baby, your great-grandpa’s gift has arrived. You’d better grow strong and get ready to meet him.”
A smile returned to Old Master Pei’s face. “You girl, how are you still like a child? Don’t pat your stomach so hard.”
Si Qiu lowered her hand and picked up another pastry. “He’s in my belly. As his mother, I naturally have a sense of things. What I worry about is that others might not. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m more fragile. If something were to happen and either the baby or I were harmed, Jingzhou might not be able to take it.”
The old master had just been about to reach for a pastry after seeing her eat so happily, but her words froze his hand in place.
He slowly withdrew it, his gaze drifting out the window. Thinking back to the expressions of his son and grandson earlier, he sighed after a long moment.
“They both grew up in France. Send them back. While I’m still alive, they are not to return.”
Si Qiu paused mid-bite, then swallowed and took a sip of tea. “Grandpa is indeed thoughtful. I can assure you here—As long as Jingzhou and I are alive, Father and his brother will never lack for expenses. Members of the Pei family will never live poorly.”
He looked at her calmly, but there seemed to be immense pressure behind his gaze. Finally, he nodded.
“I’m old. Whether it’s the Pei Corporation or anything else, it will depend on you two in the future. I don’t expect you to truly treat them as father and brother. I only hope that, for my sake, you won’t let their lives become too difficult. Alright, you may go. Let the kitchen know what you like to eat, and send Jingzhou in.”
Si Qiu stepped out and had Pei Jingzhou go in. No one knew what they discussed. That night, they all had dinner together before the couple finally left.
Back at Si Qiu’s own courtyard house, after washing up, she picked up the share transfer agreement and waved it in front of Pei Jingzhou.
“Kid, from now on I’m one of the major shareholders of the Pei Corporation. You, as both shareholder and CEO, had better work hard and make money. If you delay my year-end dividends, I might just beat you up.”
Pei Jingzhou grabbed the fist she raised in mock threat and lowered his head to kiss it. Then, with his other hand, he picked up a stack of documents.
“Please address me as the head of the Pei Group.”
Si Qiu snatched the document and opened it—sure enough, it was a share transfer agreement. The transferred shares amounted to 10%. With this, Pei Jingzhou could be said to have completely taken control of the Pei Group.
Adding in the shares held by Si Qiu, unless the couple both died, the Pei father and son wouldn’t even dare dream of taking the Pei Group back.
“Husband, this child is really born at the very top of the pyramid. Grandpa promised to send that father and son back to France, and before he dies, they won’t be allowed to return to the country. That way, I can focus on my pregnancy without worry. Otherwise, judging from their state today, I’d always feel uneasy.”
Pei Jingzhou pulled her into his arms. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll always protect you. If they still don’t behave, they can just end up bedridden.”
Si Qiu chuckled. “Grandpa was worried something like that might happen too, so sending them away is both to protect me and to protect that father and son. Truly a cunning old fox.”
Pei Jingzhou gently patted her back. “Grandpa always plans three steps ahead.”
Suddenly, Si Qiu thought of something and quickly sat up from his arms. “Hey, husband, don’t you find it strange? That father and son are both so lustful—how come they never ended up with any younger siblings for you, or even nieces and nephews? If there had been even one child, Grandpa would’ve at least split off a tiny portion of the shares. It wouldn’t have come to making such a big move just for the child in my belly, right?”
Hearing her question, a strange expression appeared on Pei Jingzhou’s face. Seeing this, Si Qiu narrowed her eyes and leaned closer, until their noses were almost touching.
“You better confess honestly and tell me everything!”
Pei Jingzhou covered her face with his hand and pushed her slightly away, then said calmly, “It’s nothing much. I drugged both of them. In this lifetime, they can forget about having any offspring.”
Si Qiu’s eyes lit up at his words. His way of doing things really suited her taste. But thinking about it carefully, it also made sense. After all, the Pei Group’s main business was weapons research and sales.
Their current high-tech investments, as well as domestic ventures in malls and hotels, were only developed in recent years.
Think about it—people engaged in weapons development and trade in that kind of environment—how could they be easy to deal with? And those who could control such a group—how kind could they really be?
Seeing her reaction, Pei Jingzhou smiled as well. As long as she didn’t think he was vicious or fear him, he didn’t care about anyone else’s opinion.
After all, he was the one enjoying the fruits of victory now.
“After my mother died, the pressure from the Wang family disappeared. Pei Tai brought back two children, and their mother was still with him. He paid more attention to those two children. Pei Jiutian grew resentful and directly pushed them into the stables—one died, and the other was left paralyzed. Pei Tai wanted to beat him to death, but Uncle Lin stopped him. So I found someone to get close to him and had him drug Pei Tai with a sterilizing agent. But when that brat was fifteen, he got a foreign girl pregnant. Grandpa was furious at the time. Right after the pregnancy, the girl’s family forced Pei Jiutian to marry her. So I intervened—the child was gone, and I also drugged Pei Jiutian. But Grandpa is still Grandpa—he quickly found out it was me. He called me in for a talk, and that’s when I learned he didn’t actually care who Pei Jiutian got pregnant or married. However, that girl absolutely couldn’t be a foreigner. Otherwise, once that child was born, everyone in the Pei family might face life-threatening danger. What angered him was that I made Pei Jiutian lose his ability to have children. That’s why, all these years, he’s been on guard against me, holding tightly onto the shares.”
