They feared that if Pei Jingzhou completely took control of the Pei Corporation, he would strike hard at the two of them first. This was probably just a case of judging others by themselves.
After all, before they made a move, Pei Jingzhou had never really thought about wiping them out—at most, he would just spend money to keep them comfortable and keep them away from managing the Pei Corporation.
The old master paused mid-sip, and Hao Wentian gently set down his teacup, smiling. “Jingzhou has finally grown up. He’s even learned to actively fight for himself.”
Pei Jingzhou refilled the old master’s cup. “Because I’m not a good person, Si Qiu might not leave me. But if I have no money, she definitely will.”
At first, the old master used Si Qiu to pressure him; now he was using Si Qiu to pressure the old master in return.
The old master drummed his fingers on the table, making the tea in the full cup ripple violently, as if it might overflow at any moment.
“Right now, if I transfer all the shares to you, it would do more harm than good for you.”
Pei Jingzhou put down the teapot. “Grandpa, if you can’t bear it, you could also separate the Wang family’s portion from the Pei Corporation.”
His words made the old master tap the table harder; the tea swirled around twice and finally spilled over.
Then, with a serious expression, he said, “Don’t forget—you’re a Pei.”
Pei Jingzhou smiled when he heard that. “Yes, you’ve taught me from a young age that I’m a Pei. But you also know in your heart that the Pei family isn’t just me.”
Saying this seemed to relieve something inside him. He let out a long sigh and leaned back in his chair. “The reason you’re unwilling to transfer the shares overwhelmingly to me is to plan for the other two Peis, isn’t it?”
“But you also know they’re useless—one is a complete failure, and the other is both a failure and vicious. No matter which of them inherits the Pei Corporation, it won’t last beyond three generations.”
“But you should also know, Grandpa, as long as I don’t die or lose everything, the next Pei and Wang empires are only a matter of time.”
At this point, his expression carried a boldness and confidence he had never shown before—exactly the kind of spirit appropriate for someone his age.
The old master stared at his grandson for a moment, then gently asked, “Has that girl really got that kind of ability, to change you so much? You’re no longer thinking about pleasing me to get the shares; now you’re reaching directly into my pocket.”
Pei Jingzhou heard this, as if recalling something, his smile deepened, and his voice softened slightly.
“It’s not that she changed me. She showed me another way to live: in the present, a person should seize everything they can in the moment to satisfy their desires—not dwell on what they lost or never had in the past.”
“Ha! No matter how high-minded that sounds, it doesn’t change the fact that the girl loves money more than she loves you,” the old man said mercilessly, then downed the overflowing cup of tea in one gulp.
Pei Jingzhou nodded, seemingly agreeing with the old master. “True, she loves money. But unfortunately, I’m the type who can make money. By that calculation, how is it not that she loves me?”
The old master, who hadn’t yet swallowed his tea, choked on those words and started coughing.
The silent Uncle Lin standing nearby immediately stepped forward, patting his chest and backing him up. He even added a playful complaint, as if to lighten the mood.
“Oh my, my old master, take it easy! At your age, how can you be so reckless?”
Old Master Li’s hand trembled as he pointed across the room, speaking to Uncle Lin. “I…I’m reckless? Did you hear what that brat just said?”
When he looked up and saw Pei Jingzhou’s completely unfazed expression, the trembling in his fingers worsened. “Alright, alright, since you put it that way, let’s make a deal.”
“A deal? With Si Qiu?” Pei Jingzhou frowned and asked.
“Yes, a deal involving Si Qiu.” Accompanying the old master, he actually relaxed, a strange excitement flickering in his eyes.
“Go on, I’m listening,” Pei Jingzhou continued pouring him tea.
Old Master Li adjusted his posture, sitting back boldly and decisively. “You want absolute control of the Pei Group, right? Well, when that girl marries you, I’ll transfer 5% of the shares to her. When that girl bears your child, I’ll transfer another 5%. Boys get 3%, girls 1%—these are for the children.”
After saying this, he leisurely picked up his teacup and sipped thoughtfully.
Pei Jingzhou frowned. He did want to marry Si Qiu; with such a huge enterprise between them, he never imagined not having children. He knew no woman would refuse this.
But after spending time with her, he realized Si Qiu had no intention of marrying anyone. He could wait, he could pursue her, but he could not agree to this deal.
He didn’t want to plant a ticking time bomb in their future life together.
So he looked solemnly at the old master. “Grandfather, whether Si Qiu agrees to marry me or not, she is mine. Neither she nor I need to obtain your shares this way. If your heart isn’t truly in it, there’s no need to force the issue.”
Having said that, he drained the tea in his cup and stood, straightening his clothes.
“You might want to check on the injured party, so I won’t hold you up. But in consideration of your face, I can wait until he recovers before taking legal action.”
He turned to leave, and the old master’s teacup, placed nearby, clattered against the door he was about to open.
“You unfilial little brat! When did I ever say you wouldn’t get shares? You’re getting bolder by the day, now even learning how to usurp thrones and kill kings…”
The old master’s mouth seemed wound up like a clock, grumbling as he signed the agreement to transfer the shares. After some nitpicking, he transferred another 2%—Pei Jingzhou could no longer mention pressing charges.
Uncle Lin escorted Pei Jingzhou out while the old man kindly advised, “Don’t be angry at your grandfather. He’s old. He’s even more reluctant to let go when it comes to your father.”
Pei Jingzhou, instead of remaining grim and silent like before, nodded in full agreement.
There was even a hint of lightness in his voice. “I’m not angry at him. If Si Qiu had stabbed that person today, I wouldn’t hesitate to step up and handle it for her. From my perspective, I don’t think there’s anything questionable about what my grandfather did. After all, they are all blood relatives. Even separated by one or two generations, there’s still a difference.”
At that moment, Si Qiu came out from the back courtyard. “Hubby, did you know grandpa keeps cats in the back garden?”
Her steps were light, her tone cheerful, her face free of any shadow. Seeing this, Pei Jingzhou couldn’t help but step forward and take the round fan from her hands, fanning her gently.
