Pei Jingzhou was quite efficient. The next day, Liu Qiang and his wife brought Liu Yaohui over to apologize, standing downstairs at Si Qiu’s building while she finished her class and returned home. Since the residential area was busy with people coming and going, Si Qiu had no choice but to let them upstairs.
Pei Jingzhou was at home pan-frying steak. He could cook—Si Qiu only realized this after moving in because the villa’s housekeeper would come to clean and prepare three meals a day along with snacks.
But since the housekeeper didn’t live there, sometimes when Si Qiu didn’t order food, she would have to make a late-night snack herself.
Sometimes, when she felt lazy, she would make Pei Jingzhou do it. She hadn’t expected him to actually know how to cook.
Although his cooking was only average in taste, Si Qiu herself wasn’t much better, so after a string of compliments, Pei Jingzhou ended up taking on most of the cooking duties.
Under Si Qiu’s guidance, he even learned to make many Chinese dishes. When he heard Si Qiu returning home, he came out wearing an apron and reached out to take the book from her hands.
Seeing him holding a spatula, Si Qiu stepped aside. Pei Jingzhou smiled and withdrew his hand, then said, “Some fresh ingredients came in today, so I pan-fried steak for you. If there’s anything else you want, just tell me.”
He looked every bit the dutiful husband, which even surprised Liu Qiang and his wife. At that moment, Pei Jingzhou also noticed the Liu family of three trailing behind.
Si Qiu changed her shoes and handed slippers to the two adults. “This is the Liu family of three.”
After changing their shoes, the two quickly wanted to shake hands with Pei Jingzhou. He raised the spatula in his hand. “If you have something to discuss, come in and say it. It’s inconvenient for me to shake hands right now.”
“Oh, no, you’re too kind. Please continue with your work.”
“We just brought this little one over to apologize.” Liu Yaohui’s mother seemed like a strong, capable woman, wearing a matching suit and a reserved smile.
Facing Pei Jingzhou, Liu Qiang, a tall man, couldn’t help bending slightly. As for Liu Yaohui, his face and neck bore red marks, and seeing his father like that, a flicker of worry crossed his face.
From this, Si Qiu thought the boy wasn’t completely bad.
Si Qiu poured them water, and Pei Jingzhou came out of the kitchen. The Liu family immediately stood up. “Mr. Pei, I brought my son here this time to apologize.”
He pushed his son slightly and continued, “Both his mother and I have been busy, and we spoiled him since he was little. Recently, he met some dubious people and picked up some bad habits. But I can assure you, he never had ill intentions. I’ve already disciplined him. If you’re still upset, you can give him a couple of slaps. As for those other kids, I’ve warned them all individually. And I’ve decided to send my son to the military to help correct his young master attitude.”
His expression was sincere, with no hint of empty courtesy.
After Liu Yaohui’s father finished, his mother quickly added, “This child is naive. He was influenced by others to make mistakes. However, this matter did frighten Miss Si. This is a gift I prepared for her as compensation. Please accept it graciously.”
She pushed over a gift box, which was opened to reveal twelve thumb-sized figures of the Chinese zodiac, all cast in gold.
Not to mention the value of the gold, the lifelike details made them irresistibly cute.
“Please, everyone, sit down. Let’s discuss things while seated.” Si Qiu poured a cup of water for Pei Jingzhou as well.
“Since the lesson has already been learned, take the items back with you. Although the young master is still young, he’s an adult now. What needs to be corrected should still be corrected.”
“Although this crackdown has passed, who’s to say there won’t be a second or third time?”
“Yes, yes. My father has already made arrangements. He’ll send this child to the military immediately. Even if he can’t become a pillar of the nation, he absolutely cannot become a harm to society.”
Liu Qiang felt both love and exasperation toward his son. He had long known about his son’s character and wanted to send him to the military, but his wife had always refused.
This time, the matter was decided directly by the old master. Although his wife felt sorry for the boy, she eventually agreed.
Liu Yaohui’s mother closed the box and pushed it toward her. “This isn’t really a gift. We genuinely feel guilty and want to accompany it with a token. Accepting it will make us feel better, too.”
Knowing they were about to have a meal, the couple exchanged a few words and quickly left with Liu Yaohui.
After they left, Si Qiu bounced over to the coffee table and knelt down on the floor, opening the box and carefully examining each small item.
Pei Jingzhou came over and rubbed her head. “You really like these things, huh?”
“The gold is valuable, yes, but these items are also exquisitely crafted. Look at each one, so lifelike… they’re adorable.” Si Qiu picked up a small golden monkey, raised it in the air, and showed it to him.
“I like things that are precious, delicate, beautiful, and sparkling. Seeing these just lifts my mood.”
“I just happened to collect some Australian white gold over there. Once it’s shipped over, I’ll give you some to play with.”
“Then you can pick them out—big and small. I’ve seen people make bases out of pearls and stick red coral on top—it looks amazing. I’ll make one for the room too.”
Hearing her casually request things, Pei Jingzhou felt reassured. After all, he knew the assets she controlled. If Si Qiu stopped caring about the money he had, she could very well walk away.
“All right, I’ll get you a pair of bonsai arrangements—it’ll look nice there. Go wash your hands and eat; if we delay any longer, it’ll get cold.”
Si Qiu naturally sensed his concession and indulgence, which made her openly show her desire for treasures without restraint.
The arrival of the three guests didn’t dampen their appetite. On the contrary, that little box of gold ornaments had put Si Qiu in a very good mood. Her eyes sparkled like little hooks, and Pei Jingzhou, compared to an old-time scholar, was anything but reserved.
She pulled off her shirt and climbed onto the bed. Whenever the two were on the bed together, Pei Jingzhou’s fine beads of sweat glistened on her thin skin, his slightly heavy breathing and low murmurs making Si Qiu feel intensely sensual.
Some things can only truly be enjoyed when shared with someone you love.
The weather in Beijing gradually turned cooler. That day, Pei Jingzhou came to pick up Si Qiu from school. Today’s main task was signing a contract with the Guo family.
At the start, the Guo family’s mine shares were purchased jointly by Guo Quanfu and two friends. He held 60% of the shares, one friend 18%, and the other 22%.
Now, with mining development requiring Pei Jingzhou’s weapons and even manpower support, the shares needed to be redistributed in coordination with both sides’ exploration data.
In the end, Si Qiu obtained 36% of the mine, while Qiao Yalan was gifted 2%. Due to weather conditions in the Soviet Union, the mining operations were scheduled to open in April of next year.
However, prior to that, some mechanical equipment and weapons would be quickly transported over.
