During the argument between the two, the man grew increasingly violent. In the end, he actually pulled off his belt, forcefully looped it around the woman’s neck, and dragged her aside. He then tied her to a wooden-backed chair nearby.
The woman’s face was filled with terror. She struggled desperately and tried to scream for help, but the man gave her no chance. He immediately grabbed a napkin from the table and stuffed it into her mouth.
After that, the man began to lay hands on her. His entire body pressed against hers. No matter how much the woman struggled, she could not stop him from committing such an animalistic act.
“What a beast!” Zhu Zhu bit her lip and said angrily.
I shook my head at her, signaling her not to lose her temper. We still needed to keep watching… because this video might contain some clues.
The man’s vile actions continued, but suddenly the napkin stuffed in the woman’s mouth fell out. She seized the opportunity and bit down hard on his ear.
The man cried out in pain and released her. Immediately after, in a rage, he picked up a small bronze statue from the table and smashed it hard onto the woman’s head.
Blood splattered everywhere, and the woman’s once-beautiful face was instantly drenched in blood. The entire scene was filled with crimson horror…
But the man still did not seem satisfied. He kept raising the bronze statue and smashing it down onto her head again and again.
With each violent strike, the woman had long stopped moving, her face completely unrecognizable.
Only then did the man finally realize she was dead. He tossed the bronze statue aside, wiped his blood-covered hands on her body, and stood up to straighten his clothes.
“Pause!” I patted Manager Cui on the shoulder.
He was flustered. Everyone was already shocked by what they had seen on the surveillance footage. My sudden tap startled him so much that he jumped and quickly pressed pause.
The video on the screen froze at the exact moment the man stood up… and his eyes—identical to those captured in the earlier footage of Xiao Ming—reflected a strong light. This time, we saw him even more clearly, including his vertically slit pupils.
After that, the footage remained almost static… until the next morning, when the man appeared again. This time he was wearing different clothes and seemed slightly drunk.
The moment he entered the room, he was so shocked by the scene that he collapsed to the ground and immediately called the police.
“This is too strange. Mr. Zhang has always been a very refined person… how could he…” Manager Cui’s face turned pale as he spoke.
I had no choice but to shut down the surveillance system and completely delete the footage from the computer. I also instructed Manager Cui not to mention that we had ever seen it.
We got back into the car and found a nearby restaurant to eat while thinking about our next step.
“The sewer!” Liu Xiaopeng put down his chopsticks and said. “The two crime scenes aren’t far apart, and with the traces we found today… I think he’s been moving through the city using the sewer system. If we want to find its trail, we’ll have to start there.”
I nodded in agreement. “We’ll go back and prepare. You two don’t need to come. Xiaopeng and I will go alone.”
We quickly finished eating and drove them back to Xiao Xiao’s house, leaving Zhu Zhu and Xiao Xiao there to wait for us.
Liu Xiaopeng and I bought two flashlights at a hardware shop and packed a small bag I had prepared in advance, filled with talismans and equipment.
After preparing last night, we drove back to the residential complex developed by the Zhu Corporation. This time, we entered easily and even obtained a map of the underground sewage pipeline from Manager Cui.
We entered the sewer through a manhole again and continued along the sections we had not yet fully searched. Along the way, we found even more traces.
After about twenty minutes of advancing along the marks, we noticed that the sticky mucus on the sewer walls had become increasingly thick…
We also found several shed human skins along the way. Some of them had already begun to mold and rot in the damp, dark environment, making the scene even more nauseating.
“I think its nest is not far ahead,” I said, looking at the disgusting human skins.
Liu Xiaopeng agreed and shone his flashlight forward. About twenty meters ahead, there was a mound-like structure piled up.
I squinted and immediately felt my stomach churn. It was a hill made entirely of shed human skin, discarded and stacked together.
“It’s been staying here for quite a while,” I frowned.
The moment I finished speaking, I suddenly felt something was wrong. Before I could react, a gust of wind attacked from behind. I only felt a shadow drop above my head—
The next second, a sharp pain struck the back of my skull. I gasped and nearly lost my balance, almost falling into the sewage.
Gritting my teeth, I reached out to grab the figure—but it was too fast. Seeing that the strike had failed to knock me down, it immediately fled deeper into the sewer.
I reacted quickly and threw a talisman toward it. Empowered by my spiritual energy, it shot forward like a bullet—
But the shadow turned a corner and disappeared into a bend in the tunnel.
“Catch it!” I shouted.
Liu Xiaopeng reacted quickly and chased after it immediately. I touched the back of my head—fortunately, there was no blood—and with no time to think, I followed him.
“It went up!” Liu Xiaopeng shouted from ahead. I saw a manhole cover open above us.
A ladder was installed inside the shaft, likely for maintenance workers. The cover was half-open—clearly, the thing had escaped through there.
Without hesitation, Liu Xiaopeng climbed up. I wanted to warn him to be careful, but he had already disappeared above.
I no longer hesitated and climbed out as well. We emerged into a narrow street. Liu Xiaopeng had already crossed an intersection and was chasing toward the distance.
I sped up to catch him, but we seemed to have entered an urban village maze. The alleys twisted like a labyrinth, and I quickly lost sight of Liu Xiaopeng. The attacker was gone as well.
I scanned my surroundings. With no other option, I randomly picked a lane and rushed into it, running wildly in hopes of finding Liu Xiaopeng.
