Halfway through speaking, Li Zi seemed to realize something. His eyes widened as he stared at me.

“You mean they didn’t dig everything up back then? There are still bodies buried underneath?”

After a moment’s thought, I shook my head.

“According to the records, that search operation lasted nearly two years. I don’t think it’s possible that any remains were overlooked.”

“But…” I deliberately left the sentence hanging.

Li Zi immediately leaned closer.

“But what?”

I tapped the blueprint on the table.

“The bodies may have been dug up and removed, but the vengeful spirits and yin energy left behind by those who died horribly in this house wouldn’t necessarily have gone with them.”

“Is it really that creepy, bro?” Li Zi asked, baring his teeth nervously.

I laughed and looked at him.

“What? Scared? Maybe you should just return the villa and forget about it. No need to invite trouble.”

Li Zi instantly bristled.

“Return it? Not a chance! Big Bro, we’re people who do big things. We can’t be timid, right? Since I’ve already taken it over, I’ve got to see it through!”

I found his reaction amusing.

Still, I genuinely liked Li Zi’s personality. He was straightforward, clever without being scheming, sincere toward others, and lacked any real malice.

Before long, we got along quite well.

At noon, he called over the two friends who had accompanied him during the livestream at the villa. They put together a lavish feast, and the four of us drank all the way into the evening.

Although I still had Tang Shanshan on my mind and worried about her, the enthusiasm of those three energetic young men was impossible to resist. Before long, they had me completely drunk.

After the gathering ended, Li Zi directly arranged a room for me on the floor above the restaurant.

That one sleep lasted until eleven o’clock the next morning.

I was awakened by a phone call from Old Luo.

When I had contacted him yesterday, I’d told him it was an urgent job and that all expenses would be reimbursed. That was why he’d arrived so quickly.

As soon as I went downstairs, I found that Li Zi had already taken care of everything.

Old Luo had brought six workers with him. They were sitting with Li Zi and the others in the restaurant’s largest private room, where an entire table of fine food and liquor had already been prepared.

Li Zi dragged me to the table.

Only after downing three cups of liquor did I begin explaining the details of the troublesome job to Old Luo and his men.

“According to the plan, we need to arrive on-site at 12:30 today and dig up the back garden during the peak of yang energy. So I’ll have to ask all of you brothers to go easy on the drinking at lunch. Tonight, I’ll have Boss Li Zi treat us all, and we’ll drink until we’re satisfied.”

I raised my glass in a toast.

Old Luo’s crew clearly understood the rules. They weren’t talkative. Each man finished his drink and immediately started eating.

Before long, the table looked as though a storm had swept through it.

The meal wrapped up before noon.

Li Zi drove me and his two friends in one vehicle, while Old Luo’s small work truck followed behind as we headed toward the villa.

Although the villa was located in the suburbs, the roads were excellent.

About ten minutes later, we stopped in front of a dilapidated two-story Western-style house.

After getting out of the car, I took out my EMF detector.

The needle moved slightly, but the readings weren’t particularly high.

Only after entering the courtyard did the detector begin emitting faint beeping sounds.

I called for Old Luo’s team to grab their tools.

We walked around the strangely unsettling little building and arrived at the garden behind it.

The garden was enclosed by crumbling walls and covered roughly a hundred square meters. The weeds were over waist-high, making it difficult to walk through.

Standing at the edge, I nodded to Old Luo and his men.

“Sorry to trouble you, masters. We need to turn over the entire garden. Dig at least half a meter deep. Every bit of soil we remove has to be transported to the front yard and spread out under direct sunlight.”

Old Luo merely nodded and immediately got to work with the others.

They were astonishingly efficient.

In roughly two hours, all seven men had dug up the entire garden.

Standing on the outskirts, I watched as they dug deeper and deeper.

The soil they tossed out grew noticeably darker with every layer.

When I brought the EMF detector close to the deepest soil, it instantly emitted a piercing shriek.

The readings immediately maxed out.

As for the workers still digging in the pit…

Despite the blazing midday sun, not a single one had taken off his shirt.

In fact, I hadn’t seen a single drop of sweat on any of them.

That alone showed just how dense the yin energy within the soil was.

About fifteen minutes later, I suddenly saw Old Luo stop digging.

He turned around and said a single word to the others.

“Out.”

The seven men immediately climbed out of the pit and stood to one side.

My heart stirred.

I quickly walked over to stand beside Old Luo and looked down.

At the center of the enormous excavation pit in the garden, a pile of black human bones had been exposed.

As the blazing sunlight shone upon them, the bones actually emitted sizzling sounds like food frying in a pan.

Dense black mist rose from the blackened skeletons.

In an instant, the temperature throughout the entire courtyard seemed to drop dramatically.

Everyone present felt goosebumps erupt across their skin.

“B-Big Bro… Didn’t you say the police already dug up all the bodies and took them away? Then… then what is this…?”

Li Zi pointed at the bones in the pit, his face filled with terror.

Keeping my eyes fixed on the pit, I shook my head.

“Those aren’t human bones.”

“W-What? Bro, are you sure those aren’t human?”

One of Li Zi’s friends pointed at a skull among the pile of black bones, his eyes wide with disbelief.

To them, several of the intact skulls clearly looked human.

“These aren’t real human remains. No matter how badly human bones decay, they could never turn this pitch-black.”

My expression grew solemn.

After a pause, I said each word distinctly:

“These are Yin Bones.”

Li Zi clearly had no idea what Yin Bones were and turned toward me, preparing to ask another question.

Before he could speak, Old Luo extended an arm, stopping him from coming any closer.

I stared fixedly at the black bones in the pit.

The black smoke rising from them was rapidly evaporating under the scorching sunlight.

Then, at that very moment, a cloud drifted overhead and blocked the sun.

The entire garden instantly fell into shadow.

The last few lingering strands of black smoke suddenly began floating back and forth as though they possessed consciousness.

Slowly, the smoke transformed into thread-like strands.

One by one, they connected the black bones together.

The pile of bones began producing a series of clicking sounds.

Clack… clack… clack…

Pulled by those black threads, the bones actually started assembling themselves within the pit.

Like pieces of a puzzle, they fitted together one after another.
