PD -Chapter 29 Finding the Weakness

Listening to the ominous creaking sounds coming from the Spirit-Binding Ruler, as if it could snap at any moment, nearly brought me to tears. I had poured an unimaginable amount of effort into creating that thing. If it broke now, forget about the ruler—both Liu Xiaopeng and I would probably be finished as well.

I cursed under my breath and, with one hand, pulled out every talisman I had on me. Smearing them with the blood from my chest wound, I pressed the entire stack against the woman in red in the passenger seat.

The red-clad apparition let out another piercing shriek, and her form began to turn somewhat translucent.

But the space inside the vehicle was far too cramped. Worse, whether it was the work of this evil spirit or something else, the doors had somehow become jammed. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get them open.

With three occupants crammed into the front seat—the evil entity included—there was no room at all to maneuver, let alone perform the Divine Refinement Art.

I was starting to panic when a sudden idea flashed through my mind.

Gritting my teeth, I lunged forward, wrapped my arms around the red-clad spirit, and switched positions with Liu Xiaopeng.

“Drive! Get away from Broken Head Bridge! Evil entities become weaker when they’re separated from the place they haunt!”

Without hesitation, Liu Xiaopeng started the engine. To my surprise, the vehicle actually came to life. He immediately slammed his foot on the accelerator and shot forward.

I focused all my attention on restraining the spirit. My original intention was to burn her away with the Demon-Burning Incantation, but then I remembered that I couldn’t use the Divine Refinement Art inside the car. If I destroyed her now, this entire operation would have been for nothing.

In the end, I forced myself to hold back.

The car sped down the small road branching off from the left side of the bridge. After traveling less than five hundred meters, I noticed the road ahead becoming increasingly narrow.

Then I realized where it led.

Up ahead was what appeared to be an abandoned village.
