Blue flames instantly swallowed the towering figure of the mountain god… At that moment, in the dark sky above the formation, streaks of electric serpents began to roam, as if a violent storm was about to descend.
“Get out of the way!” I shouted toward Liu Xiaopeng, who was still at the edge of the formation.
Liu Xiaopeng was stepping on the tip of a tree branch, slowly drifting down toward me.
The moment he landed, a massive pillar of bluish-purple lightning suddenly struck down from the sky.
“Boom!”
The sound carried an overwhelming, earth-shaking force. I only felt the entire mountain tremble with the thunder. Countless wood chips and bark were blasted into the air like bullets, scattering in all directions.
These fragments were stripped from the mountain god’s body by the lightning strike. Once blown apart, they flew at terrifying speed—like grenade shrapnel. Their killing power was immense; some of them shot straight into other trees like razor blades.
Both Liu Xiaopeng and I activated our Golden Light Protection Mantras to defend against the debris.
Soon, a second lightning pillar struck down. Its momentum and power were twice that of the first. The enormous lightning column almost completely covered the center of the formation.
We both retreated several meters again, but the roar of the impact still made my eardrums ache.
Miserable howls continued to echo through the formation. The mountain god’s massive body had already been reduced by half under those two strikes, while the remaining half was still being burned and wrapped in blue flames.
At this point, the mountain god no longer had its previous domineering presence… It looked like an ancient giant tree being slowly turned into charcoal under heavenly fire.
But the heavenly thunder showed no mercy to this evil deity.
Immediately after, the third, fourth, and fifth lightning strikes descended one after another—each stronger than the last. The mountain god’s body was blasted into pieces inside the formation, just like the trees it had once snapped apart.
Its burning, blue-flamed body gradually merged with the surrounding forest, turning into blackened charcoal.
After the five strikes, the blue flames inside the formation weakened slightly. Through the gaps in the fire, I saw a black shadow crawling out from the charred remains.
It was small—shaped vaguely like a human, but also resembling a weasel.
I realized that this was the mountain god’s remaining soul. It tried to escape through a gap in the blue flames, clinging to its last chance of survival. But the moment it crossed the flames, a ball of blue fire shot out from the formation and slammed into it with a loud “bang.”
The tiny figure—completely different from its earlier massive form—was sent flying, crashing sideways into a large tree in front of us before falling to the ground with a miserable scream.
I cursed and instantly flashed to the tree. I stepped down hard on it.
The small body now truly resembled a weasel. I even began to suspect that it had originally been a “yellow-skinned weasel spirit” that had become a mountain god by chance in these deep forests.
But now, with its true form revealed, it had lost all its former majesty—and even the viciousness of a fallen evil deity. It looked more like a pitiful small beast.
However, I knew in my heart that if I showed mercy and let it go, it would be like releasing a tiger back into the mountains. It would likely tempt more corrupt people to offer sacrifices and continue harming others.
Thinking of this, I gritted my teeth. Black flames of Burning Demon Fire surged from my foot, and the tiny figure immediately screamed.
At that moment, a voice suddenly echoed in my mind.
“Don’t kill me, don’t kill me!” The voice was neither male nor female. “If you spare me, I can give you anything! What do you want? Treasure? There are many treasures hidden in this forest—I know all their locations! I can make you unimaginably rich!”
I froze for a moment before realizing that this evil mountain god was somehow transmitting its voice directly into my mind.
I let out a cold snort. The flames under my foot flared up, and its body was instantly reduced to black smoke that dispersed into the night sky.
By now, the night was deep. The blue flames within the formation were also gradually fading.
I looked at the wreckage all around and collapsed to the ground, completely exhausted.
Liu Xiaopeng immediately came over to support me. I endured the soreness in my body and said:
“We need to hurry down the mountain and find Shanshan and the others. The two people who performed the human sacrifice ritual for the mountain god are still out there.”
Supported by Liu Xiaopeng, I quickly headed downhill while dialing Tang Shanshan’s number.
“Hello, are you okay?”
Tang Shanshan’s voice came through the phone, and I finally breathed a sigh of relief. They were safe.
“We’re fine. We’re about to head down and find you.”
“We’re at the place where we parked last time,” she said.
I frowned and reminded her, “We made quite a big commotion here. The gas station owner and his wife might come over after hearing it. Be careful—they might try to harm you again.”
“Don’t worry about those scumbags anymore!” Tang Shanshan said angrily.
I froze, unsure what she meant. Then I heard another sound from the phone—someone groaning in pain.
Frowning, I asked what had happened.
“I’ve already tied those two scumbags up,” Tang Shanshan said, followed by the sound of her kicking someone again. The man cried out in pain—I now recognized it was the gas station owner.
I was stunned. “How did you do that?”
“You’re underestimating me too much. I’m also someone who has spiritual power and can use magic now,” she said proudly. I could even imagine the expression on her face.
“I used fire talismans and burned off both of their hair,” she added.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “We’ll be heading down soon.”
After hanging up, I thought for a moment and then called Di Ting.
I looked back toward the mountain. The blue flames were slowly dying out, but they had already ignited several trees. If it turned into a forest fire, it would be a serious problem.
And those two people involved in the ritual still needed to be handed over to the authorities.
If we reported it directly, it might cause unnecessary misunderstandings. So the aftermath still needed to be handled by Division 507.
“I’ll arrange for people to handle the cleanup immediately,” Di Ting said. “Oh right, after you’re done, come to the investigation team. There’s something it’s time I tell you.”
