I took out the Soul-Collecting Talisman and chanted an incantation into the air. The talisman immediately emitted a golden glow, and a woman in white drifted gracefully out from within.
Old Que stared at the woman for a long moment before cautiously calling out, “Shen… Shen Fang?”
The woman’s soul appeared ethereal, but after recovering her sanity within my talisman, she now gazed at Old Que—someone she hadn’t seen for who knew how many years—with deep affection in her eyes.
“It was my fault. It was all my fault…” Old Que suddenly broke down, tears and snot streaming down his face.
I sighed and motioned for the others to follow me outside and back into the car, leaving some private space for the long-separated lovers.
No matter how anxious we were, waiting a little longer wouldn’t make a difference. Besides, judging from Old Que’s current state, there was little chance he would refuse our request now.
After about fifteen minutes of waiting in the car, Old Que finally emerged. He knocked on the passenger-side window several times, and we immediately got out.
“Kid, I didn’t expect you to actually find her. You’ve got some ability after all.” Old Que looked at me, a trace of admiration hidden within his words, though his expression remained as arrogant as ever.
“I’ll take your job.”
After a pause, he asked, “What material are you using, and what weapon do you want?”
Overjoyed, I got straight to the point.
“A gun. And some bullets.”
“The material is the Seven-Colored Divine Stone,” Shen Tu added from the side.
Old Que froze for a moment, genuine shock appearing on his face.
“You mean the Seven-Colored Divine Stone left behind when Nüwa repaired the heavens?”
We all nodded.
Old Que thought for a moment. It seemed he wanted to ask where we had obtained such a treasure, but halfway through the question, he stopped himself.
“Bring the material here tomorrow.”
With that, he turned and left, leaving the rest of us standing there staring at one another.
“He… doesn’t need to design it first? Draw blueprints or something?” I asked Shen Tu. After a brief pause, I added, “We’re talking about a modern firearm with a precise mechanical structure, not just a sword or a blade.”
Before I could continue, Shen Tu rolled her eyes.
“Do you think the Que Sect is just a blacksmith shop?”
She shot me a look and continued, “I’m not exaggerating when I say that if you gave him the right materials, he could probably build a RoboCop. A gun is nothing by comparison.”
“The Que Sect… is really that powerful?” Liu Xiaopeng asked in disbelief.
“Let’s head back. Since he agreed, we don’t really need to worry anymore.”
Shen Tu let out a long breath and climbed into the back seat.
Liu Xiaopeng and I exchanged glances before getting into the car as well. We turned around and started the drive back.
Halfway there, something occurred to me.
I looked toward Shen Tu in the back seat.
“The last time you came to see Old Que, what did he make for you?”
“You’ve already seen it.”
A mischievous smile appeared on Shen Tu’s lips.
“And it nearly killed you.”
I froze before finally realizing what she meant.
Back when one of the Five Ghost Emperors had possessed Tang Shanshan’s body, inside that bizarre barrier, the Ghost Emperor had thrown a short spear that pierced straight through my chest…
Had it landed only a few millimeters closer to my heart, I wouldn’t be sitting here talking today.
I’d always assumed that spear had been condensed from the Ghost Emperor’s spiritual power, much like my Spirit Sword Incantation or Liu Xiaopeng’s Immortal-Slaying Sword.
Yet it turned out to be a real weapon forged by Old Que.
But how could a physical weapon be summoned at will and hidden perfectly when not in use?
As I pondered the question, I suddenly felt a chilling wave of yin energy behind me.
Turning around, I saw Shen Tu raising her right hand. Hovering above her palm was a miniature spear, slowly spinning.
“This Ghost God Spear is a Soul Weapon,” Shen Tu explained.
“All things possess a spirit. A Soul Weapon is actually quite similar to a human soul—an essence that exists independently of a physical body.”
She looked at the tiny spear.
“This is Old Que’s masterpiece. He used my spiritual power and primordial spirit as the foundation to forge the spear, then nurtured a weapon soul through secret techniques, allowing that soul to separate from the weapon itself.”
“In that way, you obtain a weapon that never wears out, perfectly resonates with your spiritual power, and can move according to your will.”
“Then our gun…”
I had barely begun speaking when Shen Tu shook her head.
“Forget it. That’s the Seven-Colored Divine Stone we’re talking about. The primordial spirits of ordinary mortals can’t possibly resonate with it. And there’s no way you’d be able to nurture a weapon soul for it in such a short time.”
“Your schedule is too tight. Old Que can only use his craftsmanship to turn it into a durable external weapon that enhances your abilities. As for a Soul Weapon, don’t even think about it.”
She yawned and shook her head again.
I sighed.
There was no point forcing the issue.
Shen Tu was right—we didn’t have much time left.
Neither did Tang Shanshan.
Early the next morning, under Zhu Zhu’s guidance, we went to the bank and retrieved the Black Jade from the underground vault before delivering it to Old Que.
Inside the abandoned steel mill, Old Que circled the Black Jade for quite some time.
His expression shifted constantly, but no matter how many questions we asked, he refused to say a word.
Twenty minutes later, he suddenly walked away and ignited the massive steel furnace.
In an instant, the temperature throughout the factory soared. It felt as though we had been transported into a fiery inferno.
After the furnace burned for roughly an hour, Old Que hoisted the entire block of Black Jade and tossed it directly into the blazing furnace.
“This is a divine stone used to repair the heavens,” Liu Xiaopeng said, unable to hold back. “Shouldn’t it require true dragon fire to melt? I don’t think this furnace is enough.”
After all, he had contributed the most to obtaining the Black Jade, so seeing it thrown into an ordinary furnace made him understandably nervous.
Old Que ignored him completely.
In fact, he seemed annoyed by our presence and eventually drove all of us out, telling us to return in three days.
For those three days, I felt as though a weight was hanging over my heart.
At long last, the time passed.
Early on the morning of the third day, we returned to the steel mill.
Old Que appeared to have still been asleep and was clearly unhappy about being woken up. Fortunately, the liquor we brought improved his mood considerably.
After dragging his feet for a while, he finally led us into a room inside the factory—one we had never entered before.
At first glance, the room looked cluttered and chaotic.
But a closer inspection revealed that everything was meticulously categorized and organized.
Old Que pulled a box from an old machine tool and opened it.
Inside were countless components.
Judging from both their appearance and my own experience, once assembled, those parts would form a large-caliber revolver.
