“Big Bro, do you think… that security guard was really haunted by a ghost? Could a ghost have followed him home and then killed both him and his wife?” Li Zi asked as he drove.

I thought for a moment before replying, “The possibility of something actually following him home is pretty low. Some yin entities don’t need to possess someone or physically follow them in order to influence or control a person’s mind.”

“No matter what, one thing is certain: that security guard definitely didn’t cause that tragedy of his own free will,” I said with a sigh.

“Yeah…” Li Zi nodded gloomily. “Brother Zhou also mentioned that Xiao Xu and his wife had already been talking about having children…”

“Sometimes, it’s better to believe something might exist than to dismiss it outright,” I remarked, glancing at him. “Which is why your haunted-house business is a pretty high-risk profession. If you’re constantly wandering around places like these, one day you might—”

Li Zi’s face immediately changed. He was obviously frightened.

But he was a smart man. A moment later, he realized I was teasing him and laughed awkwardly.

“As long as I’ve got Big Bro around, I’m not afraid of anything.”

We chose to visit the abandoned hospital at night as well.

After all, my purpose this time was to find Old Que’s lover.

If the woman named Shen Fang had truly become a vengeful spirit, then the chances of encountering her would be much higher when the yin energy was strongest at night.

Before coming here, I had already worked out a plan.

If the vengeful spirit causing trouble inside the psychiatric hospital turned out to be Shen Fang, I would first trap her with an array formation, then use a Soul Collection Incantation to capture her spirit and bring her back to meet Old Que.

As for what would happen to her spirit afterward, that could be decided later.

Originally, I wanted Li Zi to wait outside.

But he didn’t seem afraid at all. Not only did he insist on coming in with me, he even wanted to start a livestream on his phone.

I scolded him a few times. Although he eventually turned off the livestream, he still followed me inside.

There wasn’t much I could do about it.

After all, this project belonged to him, and I’d still need to collect my project fee from him later. It wasn’t appropriate to push the issue too hard.

So I merely warned him a few times and told him to stay behind me at all times.

With flashlights in hand, we passed through the wire fence and entered through the main entrance of the half-collapsed inpatient building.

Inside was what appeared to be a reception hall.

The layout looked largely the same as what Brother Zhou had previously described.

We also found footprints and other traces in many places.

Judging by how fresh they looked, they had probably been left by the group of kids who broke in and by Brother Zhou’s team.

Following the trail, we walked forward for some time and soon discovered the iron door leading to the basement.

The broken chain still hung there.

Li Zi and I exchanged a glance and prepared to push the door open.

But after several attempts, I realized something strange.

The iron door wouldn’t budge at all.

It felt as though it had been welded shut.

I stopped pushing and carefully examined it with my flashlight.

Yet after looking for quite a while, I couldn’t find any additional locks.

“Did anyone else come in after Brother Zhou and the others left?” I asked Li Zi.

He shook his head.

“After I took over, I added more security personnel. They patrol roughly once every hour. We also installed surveillance cameras along the roadside outside. No one else has been seen entering.”

“Then why can’t this door be opened?” I muttered.

Placing my palm against the metal door, I attempted to extend my spiritual awareness and sense what lay beyond it.

Creaaak…

Suddenly, a spine-chilling creaking sound came from behind us.

The noise was like the rotten door of a thousand-year-old haunted house being pushed open by some monster lurking inside.

I frowned.

Li Zi, who had been intently studying the basement door beside me, nearly jumped out of his skin.

Both of us immediately swung our flashlights toward the sound.

At the far end of the corridor behind us stood a dilapidated wooden door.

And at that very moment, it had somehow opened.

I froze briefly before raising my flashlight and walking toward it.

By now, Li Zi had finally started feeling genuinely afraid.

He hesitated and called out to me softly from behind, seemingly trying to stop me from going any farther.

I ignored him.

My primary objective tonight was to find spirits.

That door had opened far too strangely.

I strongly suspected the work of some yin entity, and I had to investigate.

“Wait here for me,” I whispered over my shoulder.

But apparently being separated from me scared him even more.

After gritting his teeth, he followed anyway.

When I arrived at the doorway, I noticed a sign hanging above the frame.

There seemed to be words written on it, but they were obscured by thick dust and cobwebs.

Standing on tiptoe, I wiped away some of the grime.

Several characters emerged.

South Wing.

I paused and turned to Li Zi.

“Didn’t the information you gave me mention something about the hospital’s South Wing?”

Seeing that nothing particularly supernatural had happened yet, Li Zi gradually recovered from his fear.

After thinking for a moment, he replied, “There were two major incidents in the records, and I think both happened in the South Wing.”

“One occurred in 1991. Three drunk men broke into the psychiatric hospital’s South Wing. In the end, only one of them came back out alive—but when he emerged, he’d completely lost his mind. As for the other two, they vanished without a trace. Based on the evidence the police had at the time, it was believed that the surviving drunk had murdered both of his companions.”

“There was another incident in 2000. Two middle-school students entered the South Wing and never came back out. The local authorities organized a large search operation, but they found absolutely nothing. Even now, those two kids have never been found. No one knows whether they’re dead or alive.”

I nodded, silently praising Li Zi’s familiarity with the case files.

Outwardly, however, I said nothing.

Instead, I looked up once more at the sign bearing the words South Wing.

After a moment, I turned to him and asked, “Tell me… if we go in now, do you think we’ll ever come back out?”

“B-Big Bro, don’t scare me like that. How about… we don’t go in tonight? We can come back during the day and bring a whole team with us,” Li Zi said nervously, tugging at my sleeve.

But I shook my head.

“We don’t have time to wait. We have to go in tonight.”

With that, I stepped through the doorway into the South Wing.

After hesitating briefly, Li Zi followed.

Using our flashlights, we proceeded down the corridor.

After walking for a while, we stopped outside the first room.

I pushed the door open forcefully.

A cloud of musty dust immediately rushed toward us.

Holding my breath, I waited for the dust to settle.

Only then did I shine my flashlight inside and finally see the room clearly.

It appeared to be a treatment room.

In the center stood a special hospital bed.

Metal railings surrounded it on all sides, and sturdy leather restraints were attached to the frame.

They had obviously been used to bind patients’ hands and feet and prevent violent movements.

Beside the head of the bed stood a machine.

At first glance, it resembled one of those salon devices used for perming hair.

But upon closer inspection, it was obvious what it really was.

It was an instrument used to administer electroshock therapy to patients’ heads.
