I froze for a moment, picked up a bite of food with my chopsticks, and put it into my mouth while thinking over the question.
Indeed, what kind of weapon could we forge that would give us a fighting chance against them? It was a decision we needed to make as soon as possible.
My first thought was a sword.
After all, swords had remained timeless weapons for thousands of years, and Taoists traditionally used swords to ward off evil. Peachwood swords and Tai Chi swords were prime examples.
Moreover, my Spirit Sword Technique had improved tremendously. That piece of black jade was enough to forge two excellent swords. If I combined my Sword Spirit Technique with Liu Xiaopeng’s Immortal-Slaying Sword, and infused both our spiritual power and sword souls into blades forged from the black jade, it might genuinely increase our strength.
The second option I considered was a spear.
As the saying goes, “an extra inch of reach is an extra inch of advantage.” Many powerful figures in mythology wielded spears as their weapons. Nezha from The Investiture of the Gods immediately came to mind.
I continued pondering, and the dinner table gradually fell silent.
Everyone—including Zhu Zhu—was thinking about the problem. From time to time, she would offer suggestions and throw out ideas.
Most of the weapons she mentioned came from famous historical romances and legends—things like the Green Dragon Crescent Blade and the Three-Pointed Double-Edged Spear.
Just then, several special police officers in uniform entered the restaurant.
They didn’t appear to be on duty; they looked like they were simply stopping by for a meal. Only then did I remember that the local police station was located not far away.
Lost in thought, my eyes drifted toward the equipment hanging from their belts.
Batons.
Flashlights.
And one of them even had a holster at his waist.
A holster?
The moment I saw it, it felt as though a veil had been lifted from my mind.
Suddenly, my thinking broadened.
Everything we had been considering—sabers, swords, spears—were ancient weapons.
We had all fallen into the same mindset. Whether drawing inspiration from myths, legends, or classic literature, none of us had managed to break free from that line of thinking.
But this was the modern era.
The development of modern weaponry was beyond imagination.
Even people like us, who knew that the sinister beings of the Six Realms and cultivators could wield spiritual power to achieve incredible feats, couldn’t be certain who would win if spiritual power were truly pitted against modern technology.
Take me, for example.
If I had to face a few kidnappers armed with knives and clubs, my spiritual power would make short work of them.
But if I ran into a squad carrying live firearms, I’d have to seriously consider whether my spiritual defenses could withstand the bullets.
Even someone like Shen Tu, whom ordinary bullets couldn’t harm—I refused to believe she could walk away unscathed if an atomic bomb landed on her head.
That was why I felt we should use the black jade to create a modern weapon.
After thinking it over for quite a while, I came to the conclusion that a firearm using black jade bullets seemed the most practical option.
We could turn as much of the black jade as possible into ammunition, use it as a carrier for highly destructive spiritual energy, and even engrave powerful talismanic inscriptions onto each bullet to increase its lethality.
That, in my opinion, would be the most effective use of the black jade.
The moment the idea crystallized, everything suddenly became clear.
I immediately lost interest in eating and slammed my chopsticks onto the table with a bang.
Then I instantly remembered that this wasn’t exactly the right place to discuss such matters.
If the special police officers at the next table somehow learned that we were secretly planning to manufacture weapons, we’d probably be hauled away on the spot.
I quickly paid the bill and motioned for everyone to follow me.
We soon returned to the agency, and only then did I explain my idea in full.
“Infusing spiritual power into the bullets and engraving inscriptions specifically designed to target their weaknesses… combining multiple effects could produce even better results. I think it’s feasible.”
Liu Xiaopeng stroked his chin, nodded, and looked at me approvingly.
“As long as you’ve made your decision.”
Shen Tu, however, looked completely unconcerned and offered no opinion whatsoever.
She simply said that one sentence.
That attitude of hers irritated me more than anything.
Still, I suppressed my frustration and asked, “Who exactly is this person you mentioned—the one who can forge weapons for us?”
Shen Tu rubbed her chin, wearing a mysterious smile.
“You’ll find out when you come with me somewhere.”
“But before that, you’re probably going to have to spend some money.”
She folded her arms and looked at me. Then she seemed to remember something.
“Oh, right. I almost forgot we have this young heiress with us. In that case, the cost won’t be worth mentioning.”
None of us had any idea what she meant.
Just as we were about to ask, Shen Tu smoothed her hair and clothes, turned around, and headed for the door.
“Come on,” she said. “We’re going shopping. Take me to the most upscale, most expensive mall you’ve got.”
“A mall?”
Liu Xiaopeng and I exchanged confused looks.
Neither of us had the slightest idea what this woman was up to.
“Why are you still standing there? Go get the car already!”
Shen Tu turned back and glared at me impatiently.
I sighed.
Although I had no clue what this crazy woman was planning, I grabbed my keys and followed her outside.
The four of us drove to the city’s most luxurious shopping mall.
And, unsurprisingly, it was another property owned by the Zhu family.
“What exactly are we here for?”
After parking in the underground garage, I turned to Shen Tu, who was sitting in the passenger seat with her arms folded.
“To buy gifts, obviously. You’re asking someone to forge weapons for you. Were you planning to show up empty-handed?”
She rolled her eyes.
I blinked.
“Gifts?”
“From a shopping mall?”
I asked again to make sure I had heard correctly.
In my imagination, anyone capable of turning a special material like black jade into Ice Blades had to be some sort of extraordinary eccentric.
How could a person like that possibly care about things bought in a shopping mall?
“Why do you have so many questions? Just buy whatever I tell you to buy.”
Shen Tu was growing impatient and shot me another look.
I sighed and wisely kept my mouth shut as I led everyone into the mall.
Our first stop was a liquor store.
Moutai.
Wuliangye.
Shen Tu bought ten full cases.
Then she told me to pay.
I was on the verge of exploding on the spot.
Fortunately, the wealthy young heiress behind us immediately grasped the situation and paid without hesitation.
After that, we visited a luxury watch store, a designer handbag boutique, and a cosmetics shop.
We bought a famous-brand watch, two designer handbags, and a complete luxury cosmetics set.
When all was said and done, the trip had cost two hundred thousand yuan.
Looking at the receipt, I nearly spat out blood.
I was even starting to suspect that Shen Tu had never experienced the joy of shopping while she was alive.
Perhaps she was using “gift-giving” as an excuse to extort money from us.
Fortunately, after everything had been loaded into the vehicle, she finally gave me an address and told me to deliver the gifts there.
According to her, the person who would forge our weapon was waiting at that location.
