After hesitating for a moment, I stepped through the air and climbed onto the back of the frozen beast.
The beast immediately raised its head and let out a deafening roar. At once, I saw cracks begin to spread across the dark ice ceiling above us, accompanied by sharp cracking sounds.
Countless shards of ice rained down from above.
Boom!
The entire ice layer began to shake violently.
At that moment, a massive blue beam of light burst from the beast’s mouth, blasting a hole through the ceiling. Carrying me on its back, the beast soared upward, rushing from the lowest level of the Eight Cold Hells all the way toward the surface.
Protected by the blue light, I caught glimpses of the upper layers of hell as we passed through them.
Within those hells were scenes of suffering and horror among the dead. The ghastly sights flashed before my eyes like images in a spinning lantern.
Bang!
With another tremendous impact, the beast finally landed on the uppermost sheet of ice.
The place looked just as it had when I first entered, except the endless snowstorm had weakened considerably.
“Do you know how to get out?” I lay across the beast’s head and shouted into its ear.
The frozen beast seemed to understand. It lifted its head and roared again.
Instantly, I felt the surrounding glaciers and snow-covered mountains tremble in response.
The vibrations grew stronger and stronger.
In the distance, wisps of white mist rose from the peaks of the mountains, followed by rolling thunder-like sounds.
I was astonished.
Of course, I knew what it was.
An avalanche.
What I hadn’t expected was that the avalanches seemed almost rhythmic. One after another, every mountain began collapsing. The sounds merged together, creating something that resembled a grand percussion performance.
Then the ice beneath the beast’s feet began to collapse as well.
The frozen ground shattered with loud cracking noises.
As the ice split apart, it rapidly melted.
Before long, all the ice beneath the beast had turned into water.
Yet the frozen beast remained standing calmly atop the surface, showing no sign of sinking.
The surrounding mountains, after their avalanches, were suddenly reduced to less than half their original height. Meanwhile, the snow cascading down their slopes quickly melted into water and flowed into the vast expanse below, merging the entire world into a single body of water.
The once-frozen realm had become a world of water.
Carrying me on its back, the beast stepped across the water and rose into the air, arriving in an instant before the icy gate through which I had entered.
By now, the ice gate had completely melted away, revealing the stone gate hidden within.
The beast did not stop.
Lowering its head slightly, it charged straight forward.
Boom!
The stone gate was as fragile as rotten tofu before the frozen beast.
It offered no resistance whatsoever and was smashed apart instantly.
Clinging to the beast’s head, I gripped the two icicle-like horns protruding from its crown.
The beast carried me out of the now-chaotic Eight Cold Hells and burst into the open.
That last collision had nearly made my heart leap into my throat.
As soon as we emerged, I jumped down from the beast’s head.
Only then did I notice several guards lying on the ground near the entrance, crushed beneath fragments of the shattered gate.
These weren’t the guards Shen Tu and I had dealt with when we entered.
Which meant only one thing:
The Underworld had discovered our presence.
I frowned and immediately pulled out a Voice Transmission Talisman from my chest to check on Liu Xiaopeng’s progress.
“Brother Han, it’s done!” Liu Xiaopeng’s delighted voice came through.
I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’m coming to meet up with you right now,” I replied gravely.
With that, I rushed toward the elevator we had used earlier.
Before I could get far, however, the beast behind me grabbed me and tossed me back onto its head.
I immediately understood its intention.
It wanted to leave with me.
I didn’t refuse.
Gripping the icy spikes on its head tightly, I allowed it to charge recklessly toward the surface.
Though I was anxious to reunite with Liu Xiaopeng, another thought suddenly surfaced.
Shen Tu.
Without her, we would never have known how to escape the Underworld.
Before we separated, she had told me she was going to wreak havoc in the Avici Hell.
I had no idea how she was doing now.
By then, the Frozen Beast King had already carried me back to ground level.
I turned toward the distance, trying to observe what was happening around Ghost Gate Pass. Pointing in that direction, I urged the beast beneath me to head there.
“Impudent beast!”
Suddenly, a majestic and thunderous voice descended from the heavens.
The voice was like a clap of divine thunder, deafening and overwhelming, as though it had exploded right beside my ears.
I instinctively covered them.
At the same time, the Frozen Beast King beneath me abruptly froze in place.
I could feel its fear.
Its entire body was trembling uncontrollably.
“My Nether Capital generously took you in, allowing you to escape the cycle of reincarnation. Yet instead of showing gratitude, you destroyed my Cold Hell and released criminal souls. Do you know your crime?”
The voice grew even louder.
Its depth and power resembled heavenly thunder itself.
The overwhelming pressure instantly rendered my body rigid, as though I had been turned to stone.
Then I saw it.
A gigantic face appeared above me.
It looked as though it were peering down directly from the sky itself.
Its beard and hair drifted in the air as furious eyes glared at both me and the Frozen Beast King.
It looked exactly like a king of the underworld.
My heart began pounding.
Had we actually alarmed the King of Hell?
“Boy, where did you come from to be so reckless?” The enormous face leaned closer.
I felt as though the flowing beard alone was about to brush against my body.
It was clearly speaking to me.
But under that unimaginable pressure, I was completely suppressed.
I couldn’t move.
I couldn’t even utter a single word.
“Hmph!”
The giant face snorted coldly.
In that instant, it felt as though I had been struck by a hundred thousand volts of lightning.
Both body and soul shook violently.
My consciousness immediately began to scatter.
In my dazed state, I sensed that the Frozen Beast King beneath me had suffered the same fate.
As if struck by heavenly thunder, it collapsed to the ground with a tremendous crash, flinging me far away.
The next moment, the enormous Frozen Beast King shrank into something no larger than a small dog and lay motionless on the ground.
“Boy, I am the ruler of the Second Hall among the Ten Kings of Hell—King Chujiang!”
The giant face spoke once more.
Each word exploded beside my ears like a thunderclap.
My consciousness grew increasingly blurred, yet every syllable entered my mind with absolute clarity.
“You have thrown the Nether Capital into chaos and destroyed my hell. Tell me—what hidden purpose do you have?”
The tremendous voice interrogated me with an authority that permitted no resistance.
Only then did I understand.
It wasn’t that my will was stronger than the Frozen Beast King’s, allowing me to remain conscious.
Rather, the owner of that giant face was deliberately keeping a tiny fragment of my awareness intact.
Only in that state could he force me to reveal my true purpose.
