PD -Chapter 12 The Bleeding Mask

Psychic Detective 3 min read 12 of 28 15

As I listened to Zhu Zhu’s account, I tried my best to identify the key points in her story.

The most crucial issue was the connection between the incident of the mask shedding tears of blood and her father, Zhu Shengxing, falling ill.

Most malevolent spirits and evil entities are formed from people who died violent deaths. Naturally, a violent death refers to someone who did not pass away peacefully from old age or natural causes.

People who die under such circumstances often lose a great deal of blood in their final moments. That scene is deeply imprinted in the eyes of their souls as they separate from their bodies and become ghosts.

As a result, many malicious spirits use blood as a tangible manifestation of their anger or resentment before they strike, employing it to terrify their targets.

However, blood tears flowing from a mask alone were far from enough for me to make an accurate judgment. I would have to visit the Zhu residence in person.

Fifteen minutes later, we arrived at an upscale villa complex.

A middle-aged man dressed in a suit was already waiting outside the villa to greet us. He appeared to be the butler.

“Miss,” the butler said with a nod to Zhu Zhu before turning his gaze toward me and examining me from head to toe.

Following Zhu Zhu and Tang Shanshan, I entered the villa’s living room. The soaring ceiling and lavish décor gave the place a grand yet tasteful atmosphere.

We made our way into a spacious bedroom, where a slightly overweight man was reclining against the headboard, wearing glasses and reading documents in his hands.

Hearing someone enter, an expression of displeasure appeared on his wrinkled face. His thick brows knitted together, giving him a rather intimidating look. However, the moment he turned and saw that it was his precious daughter Zhu Zhu, his expression immediately softened. His brows relaxed as he feigned annoyance.

“Why didn’t you knock before coming in? No manners at all!”

After speaking, he glanced past her, his eyes settling on me. His brows immediately furrowed again, and a sharp, piercing glint appeared in his somewhat cloudy eyes.

Being stared at like that made me feel uncomfortable all over, so I could only force an awkward smile and nod at him.

“And this is?” Zhu Shengxing asked from the bed, pointing his chin in my direction.

“Oh, this is Mr. Qiu, Shanshan’s friend. I asked him to come take a look at those masks,” Zhu Zhu explained as she walked to the bedside and adjusted the pillow supporting her father’s back.

Frowning, Zhu Shengxing replied impatiently, “Haven’t I already told you? There’s nothing wrong with those masks. The whole thing was just a prank by the servants, getting back at me because I scolded them.”

Then he turned to me again, a trace of disdain visible in his eyes.

“You don’t look very old. Why don’t you get a proper job and make an honest living? Is there really any future in pretending to be some kind of spiritual master?”

“Dad!” Zhu Zhu cried out reproachfully when she heard him say that.
