“Your Zhanxian Sword may not be able to command true dragons, but it should still be able to make use of the Nine Sons of the Dragon, at least barely!” Shen Tu sighed as she looked at Liu Xiaopeng, a hint of regret in her tone.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you!” Shen Tu leaned her red lips close to Liu Xiaopeng’s ear and whispered softly.
Liu Xiaopeng was still a virgin; how could he withstand a woman like this teasing him? In an instant, his face turned as red as a monkey’s butt.
“Haha, so cute. I like you, little brother.” Shen Tu continued teasing him. She circled around Liu Xiaopeng once, then returned to stand in front of me.
“And you. With your current level of cultivation, if you want to break into the Ghost Gate Pass, you’re still a bit lacking.”
“It depends on whether you have the courage for it!” Shen Tu looked into my eyes, as if waiting for my answer.
I fell into thought. Her plan sounded full of holes… and the journey ahead would undoubtedly be extremely dangerous, filled with countless uncertainties.
But at this point, as the saying goes, we had no other choice.
It could be said that Shen Tu had grasped my thoughts completely. Her gaze was confident and relaxed, as if she already knew I wouldn’t give up this opportunity.
I gritted my teeth and nodded. “We can cooperate. My goal is simple—ensure Tang Shanshan’s soul remains intact and that she regains control of her own body. As for the other two-thirds… whether you devour her or not has nothing to do with me.”
“The well-being of all beings and the stability of the Three Realms—you don’t care about that either?” Shen Tu asked in feigned surprise.
I gave a self-mocking smile. “I’m just a small fry. I can only care about one person. As for the so-called common people of the world, there are beings like Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva who will handle that.”
“What a rare kind of devoted fool in this world… I’m almost moved to tears!” Shen Tu sighed, her large eyes turning toward me as she gave a charming smile.
“However, kid… I’m afraid you’ll still end up having to handle this matter. Those big shots in the divine realm are probably already overwhelmed with their own troubles…”
Shen Tu walked to the window and looked up at the sky, as if speaking to herself rather than to us.
“What do you mean? Overwhelmed?” I caught the shocking implication in her words.
The divine realm is overwhelmed? Could this be why the Five Direction Ghost Emperors and Lucifer hadn’t been suppressed immediately like before when they caused trouble?
But beings like the gods and Buddhas—weren’t they supposed to be all-powerful, overlooking the world? What kind of terrifying situation could make even them unable to act?
“This is something knowing won’t help you,” Shen Tu said as she turned back. “Since you’re willing to cooperate, the first priority is to awaken this boy’s bloodline power as soon as possible.”
I suddenly realized I hadn’t asked for Liu Xiaopeng’s opinion yet. The key to everything depended on his strength—but if he refused to take the risk and go with us to the Underworld’s Ghost Domain, I couldn’t force him.
I sighed and looked at Liu Xiaopeng, silently asking for his decision.
He had been silent the whole time, quietly listening to Shen Tu’s explanation. After a long moment, he finally looked up at me and nodded firmly with a smile.
“Brother Han, I told you before—since I stepped onto this path with you, I never planned to turn back. Besides… I can’t turn back even if I wanted to, right?”
“And this power in my body is something passed down in my family. I don’t want it to disappear within me… so even for myself, I have to try!”
Liu Xiaopeng’s eyes were resolute.
“Either succeed, or die trying!”
His words reignited the blood that had long cooled within me. I gritted my teeth and nodded at him before turning back to Shen Tu.
“How can his bloodline power be awakened quickly?”
Shen Tu stared at Liu Xiaopeng, examining him carefully. Then she flashed forward and placed two fingers on his forehead.
“What are you doing!” I tensed up, worried she might harm him.
“Shut up and move aside!” Shen Tu waved her hand without even looking at me, sending me flying back onto the sofa.
At that moment, I saw her fingers pinch something at Liu Xiaopeng’s forehead—as if she had grasped something invisible—and slowly pull it outward.
A strand of golden spiritual energy was drawn out and hovered above his head.
That golden energy was similar in color and aura to mine… but within it I could feel a far more domineering force, purer and stronger than my own.
Above Liu Xiaopeng’s head, the golden light formed the shape of a scroll unfolding like a painting, filled with shimmering golden stars.
At the center of those stars were nine strange beast totems.
Among them, only the final one—a dragon-headed, fish-tailed creature—was moving faintly, glowing with life.
That creature was none other than the Chiwen, whom we had encountered before when fighting the ghost of the mad Taoist controlling a massive statue.
The other eight remained only as shadows, their forms indistinct.
“Although one blood spirit has awakened, it is still unstable,” Shen Tu said as she looked at the spectral scroll above Liu Xiaopeng’s head. With a wave of her hand, the golden energy scroll instantly dissipated and returned into his forehead like a streak of light.
“What is a blood spirit?” Liu Xiaopeng asked, touching his brow.
“A so-called blood spirit is a spiritual beast bound to you through a blood contract,” Shen Tu replied.
“Back then, your ancestor Liu… that old man Liu’s achievements were so great that the Jade Emperor granted him the Zhanxian Sword and gave him the authority to command the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas. However, the Dragon Kings were unwilling to be controlled by a mere mortal, so they claimed they were old and weak.”
“What a ridiculous excuse,” Shen Tu shook her head. “They are Dragon Kings—divine beasts. There’s no such thing as aging or weakness. They simply looked down on Liu Bowen.”
“But since they couldn’t ignore the Jade Emperor’s decree, the old dragons came up with a scheme. They made their nine sons form a blood contract with your family’s ancestor Liu, swearing that as long as the Zhanxian Sword exists, they would forever serve the Liu family.”
“However,” she added with disdain, “those nine sons weren’t even pure dragons. They were the result of the old Dragon King’s affairs outside his main lineage.”
“Still, they were dragon blood. Even if they looked strange, together they formed a tremendous power for a mortal. So your ancestor accepted the arrangement.”
Shen Tu looked at Liu Xiaopeng again.
“What I didn’t expect was that your ancestor actually fused the power of the Zhanxian Sword into his own bloodline, passing it down through generations. Truly clever… and a bit ruthless.”
“You’ve met Liu… my ancestor before?” Liu Xiaopeng hesitated before asking.
