PD -Chapter 110 A Familiar Face

Psychic Detective 5 min read 110 of 172 4

Li Zi first sent me and Liu Xiaopeng back to the agency, then said goodbye, mentioning that he still had to accompany his second uncle to deal with some matters.

I didn’t insist he stay. After all, his second uncle had just taken over such a mess… and now with such a huge incident, there was plenty of aftermath work to handle and losses to recover.

In the past few days, Liu Xiaopeng had been staying at the agency to study the “Tian Tou Xuanji Record”. Since there was only one room in the office, he had no choice but to make do by sleeping on the sofa in the working area.

We grabbed a quick meal downstairs at a small restaurant, then returned to the agency and immediately went to sleep.

But just as I was drifting into sleep, I suddenly heard a thumping sound coming from the rooftop.

It sounded sometimes like someone moving furniture and tidying up, sometimes like a woman walking in high heels—irregular, stopping and starting, making my head buzz with irritation.

I suddenly sat up and looked at the ceiling. The floor above should have been Tang Shanshan’s home… but the key to her place was with me. How could anyone be inside?

My first thought was Zhu Zhu, but she shouldn’t have a key either…

While I was thinking, there was suddenly a knock on my door, and Liu Xiaopeng pushed it open and walked in.

“You heard it too?” I asked before he could speak.

He nodded, looking at me as if waiting for me to get out of bed.

Something felt wrong immediately. I rushed out of the room with him and ran upstairs.

Tang Shanshan’s door was wide open, and a familiar figure was inside, cleaning the room.

We exchanged a glance—both of us in disbelief.

The figure seemed to notice us, stopped what she was doing, and turned around. With a slight frown, she said:

“Stinky Taoist! You won’t even pay rent? Then come clean the house and work off your debt!”

That delicate, slightly mischievous face—it really was Tang Shanshan.

We stood frozen in place.

“Am I still asleep?” I muttered, scratching my head.

It hurt. I wasn’t dreaming—but how could something that only belonged in dreams be standing right in front of me?

Liu Xiaopeng clearly didn’t believe it either. I saw him quietly pinch his thigh to test if he was dreaming.

We looked at each other again.

“What are you standing there for? Both of you, get in here!” Tang Shanshan raised a broom and waved it at us.

We subconsciously followed her inside.

After a while, I finally calmed down and stared at her, my gaze turning cold.

“Who are you?” I asked sharply.

Of course I knew in my heart—there was no way the Ghost Emperor would simply let Tang Shanshan go. Was this the same Five Direction Ghost Emperor Shentu who once nearly killed me with a spear?

Seeing my reaction, Liu Xiaopeng immediately became alert and stepped back.

“You… are you a Ghost Emperor?” he asked nervously.

The woman with Tang Shanshan’s face sighed, placed the broom down, and frowned.

“This isn’t fun at all. I thought I could trick you two.”

“Who exactly are you?”

Her tone didn’t match someone who wanted to kill me on sight like the Five Direction Ghost Emperors.

But then who would have such a twisted sense of humor—dressing up as Tang Shanshan just to mess with us?

She smiled faintly, then slowly raised her right hand. A surge of purple-black energy began to gather in the air.

I froze and instinctively pulled Liu Xiaopeng back a step. That move felt strangely familiar.

In an instant, the energy condensed into a black short spear in her hand. She winked at me—and threw it.

My mind went blank.

The scene of the Ghost Emperor possessing Tang Shanshan and nearly killing me flashed through my head again.

I gritted my teeth and activated the Golden Light Spell without chanting.

But the black spear was too fast, carrying a cold, sinister wind—it actually pierced through the outer layer of my golden protection.

Fortunately, it slowed down slightly upon impact.

My eyes turned cold. I stared at the spear as my hands formed complex seals at an almost invisible speed.

The golden light around my body dimmed—but it didn’t disappear. Instead, it gathered onto my right arm, forming a golden armguard that shone blindingly.

The spear, now past the weakened barrier, shot straight toward my forehead—

And at the last moment, I caught it with my bare hand.

The golden armguard was incredibly sturdy… but I could still feel the overwhelming evil energy inside it, numbing my arm.

I stared coldly at the fake Tang Shanshan, then tightened my grip.

Crack.

I snapped the spear in half. It wasn’t a physical object—it was condensed evil energy.

So the moment it broke, it shattered like glass, dispersing into ash and vanishing.

“Not bad. You can actually block that now,” she said with a light clap, as if applauding a performance.

Ever since I was nearly killed by a spear from the Ghost Emperor inhabiting Tang Shanshan’s body, I had been searching for a way to break through.

While cultivating my spiritual energy, I had also been studying ancient techniques from the Tian Tou Xuanji Record, looking for new ways to use spells.

Just recently, I had managed to compress the Golden Light Spell into a single point and forge it into a far more durable golden armor.

That was what allowed me to block her attack today.

“You’re not one of the Five Direction Ghost Emperors,” I said coldly.

Her aura and technique were similar, but her power was clearly on a different level—much weaker.

That also explained why I could withstand her attack.

She still looked amused, which only made my anger rise.

I gritted my teeth.

Fine. If that’s how it is, don’t blame me for being rude.

Today, I’ll treat this as a warm-up… a rehearsal for dealing with the real Five Direction Ghost Emperors.
