As I mulled over everything that had happened, the use of the spell had drained my energy. My eyelids grew heavy, and before long I drifted off to sleep.
I had no idea how much time had passed when a shrill ringtone suddenly dragged me out of a pleasant dream.
The call was from Tang Shanshan.
I wondered if she was calling to nag me about the rent again. I clearly remembered our agreement: after I helped her resolve the spiritual dust incident, she would waive this month’s rent as payment.
It was still early in the morning. What wire had crossed in her head this time? Why was she calling me?
“Landlady, what brings you to call so early? About the rent this month—we already agreed on that, didn’t we…”
“Do I look like someone who goes back on her word?” she snapped. “If I said I wouldn’t collect this month’s rent, then I won’t. I’m calling because I need something else today.”
“Oh? You’re already outside? Alright, alright, I’ll open up and get some tea ready.”
After hanging up, I hurriedly got dressed. Just then, I heard the rolling shutter outside being kicked repeatedly, rattling loudly. Sighing, I found the key and went to open the door.
With a clatter, I raised the shutter.
Standing outside the office beside Tang Shanshan was a long-haired beauty who was a head taller than her, dressed in cool summer clothes that exposed a pair of slender, snow-white legs.
A pink two-seater BMW was parked not far behind them.
Tang Shanshan was waving her phone around with an annoyed look on her face, while the long-legged beauty wore sunglasses that covered half her face, making her expression impossible to read.
That pink BMW was undoubtedly hers. Judging by her handbag and clothes, none of them were cheap. She was either some wealthy boss’s mistress or the daughter of a rich family.
“I brought you business. Why aren’t you thanking me?” Tang Shanshan said after coming inside and taking a sip of water.
I chuckled and turned to the long-legged beauty.
“So, Miss, are you looking to renovate your home? What kind of design style do you prefer?”
The beauty removed her sunglasses, revealing a pair of large eyes lined with light eyeshadow. Her eyes were every bit as big as Tang Shanshan’s, though they carried a more mature charm.
She hesitated for a long moment without answering.
Tang Shanshan cut in impatiently.
“Renovate what? We’re here to hire you to catch a ghost!”
Her words caught me off guard.
I narrowed my eyes and carefully examined the young woman’s complexion.
She was undeniably beautiful. Her makeup was light and tasteful, not excessive in the slightest.
When I focused on her glabella, I found nothing unusual. Her complexion was rosy, and the area between her brows was bright and clear. She didn’t look like someone haunted by any evil spirit.
“Look at that lecherous expression of yours! Your drool’s practically hitting the floor!” Tang Shanshan waved a hand in front of my face.
The beauty, Zhu Zhu, straightened up on the sofa.
“Daoist Qiu, you have to help me!”
The truth was, I’d been sneaking glances at Zhu Zhu’s fair, shapely legs while half-listening to their conversation. But the moment she called me Daoist Qiu, I nearly fell out of my chair.
I quickly explained:
“Miss Zhu, I’m not a Daoist. Don’t listen to Tang Shanshan’s nonsense. Just call me Qiu Han.”
“I can see that your glabella is clear and bright. You don’t look like someone troubled by evil spirits. How can you be so sure your house is haunted? Have you actually seen the ghost?”
Zhu Zhu frowned and gently shook her head.
“No…”
Before she could finish, I took another look at her beautiful face and suddenly realized something.
“It’s not happening to you,” I interrupted. “It’s your parents, isn’t it?”
“How did you know?” Zhu Zhu asked in surprise.
I knew I’d guessed correctly. Smiling slightly, I couldn’t resist showing off a little.
“Your Life Palace is bright and clear, showing no sign of spiritual interference. However, the Parent Palace bears several dark spots that don’t match the rest of your complexion. That’s usually a sign that the elders in your family are suffering from poor health or misfortune.”
As I spoke, I pointed to the areas above both eyes on my forehead—the locations corresponding to the Parent Palace in face reading.
Zhu Zhu instinctively touched the faint dark spots above her eyebrows, looking somewhat uneasy.
