Qin Xiuwan’s face changed slightly.
She clenched her fists tightly and turned her gaze toward the door.

A woman’s voice soon followed from downstairs:

“Xiuwan? Are you upstairs? Are you and Aunt Chen both up there?”

Aunt Chen was the Qin family’s housekeeper.

The housekeeper frowned and also looked toward the door before saying,

“Miss, your cousin’s back too.”

The “cousin” referred to the daughter of Qin Xiuwan’s late aunt. Both her aunt and uncle had died early, so the Qin family had raised their daughter since then.
The Qin family had treated her very well—whatever Qin Xiuwan had, her cousin had too.
Mr. and Mrs. Qin were gentle people who had never once scolded or beaten the girl.
In the housekeeper’s eyes, that cousin was no different from the Qin family’s own young lady—nothing like someone who was living under another’s roof.

Before the housekeeper finished speaking, the cousin’s sharp high heels clacked up the stairs—

Clack, clack, clack—
The sound was especially harsh in the tense silence.

A few seconds later, heavier footsteps followed—the unmistakable tread of a man.
It was clear Xu Gaoyi had come up as well.

Qin Xiuwan’s face changed again.
A storm surged in her eyes; her nails dug so hard into her palms it looked like she might draw blood.

Within moments, Xu Gaoyi and the cousin entered the room.

When Xu Gaoyi saw Xiao Wange, Zhan Zeyan, and the others, his expression darkened, displeasure flashing across his face.
Then, catching sight of the broken flowerpot and shattered vase on the floor, his face turned even uglier—his features tightening into anger.

“What are you doing in my house?!”
he demanded in a low, harsh voice, glaring at Xiao Wange and Zhan Zeyan.

Xiao Wange merely curved her lips into a faint smile and said nothing.

Suppressing her roiling emotions, Qin Xiuwan hurriedly said,

“Comrade Xiao and Comrade Zhan are my guests. Xu Gaoyi, show some respect!”

Normally, Qin Xiuwan’s tone toward him was always soft and gentle.
This was the first time she had ever spoken to him so coldly.

Xu Gaoyi froze.

He stared at her in shock for two seconds, then stepped forward.

“Xiuwan, what’s wrong? Why are you—”

“Don’t call me Xiuwan!”
She cut him off sharply.
“Every time you say those two words, I feel sick!”

Thinking of how her parents had nearly died because of him—how her brother’s accident might also be tied to him—
the love she’d once felt for him had all burned away, leaving only fury and hatred.

She truly wanted to know why—why he had to be so cruel.
Her family had treated him so well. How could he have done this?

Her cousin Tong Ningxiang quickly spoke up:

“Xiuwan, you must be upset about Uncle and Auntie’s condition. Don’t take it out on Gaoyi. He’s worried too—he came straight back after finishing things at the factory.”

As she spoke, she reached out to hold Qin Xiuwan’s arm.

Qin Xiuwan looked at her cousin. They had once been very close—sharing everything.
But today, something felt off.
She suddenly felt that her cousin’s face looked like it was wearing a mask—a mask hiding her real self and deceiving everyone.

Instinctively, Qin Xiuwan sidestepped, avoiding both her cousin’s touch and Xu Gaoyi’s approach.

Her expression hardened.

“Xu Gaoyi, you know perfectly well what you’ve done.
Do I really need to spell it out for you?”

Her words made both Xu Gaoyi and Tong Ningxiang flinch.

Xu Gaoyi’s pupils contracted.
He stared at her and stammered,

“Xiuwan, what are you talking about? What did I do?
I was at the factory all last night—I didn’t do anything else! I swear—”

“Xu Gaoyi, stop lying!”
Qin Xiuwan’s voice suddenly rose in fury.
“We know everything!
My parents were harmed by you!
It was you who set up a Gathering Yin Formation in this house,
and you who brought back a Death Charm to kill my father!”

She shouted the words, then gasped for breath, tears spilling from her eyes.

This was the man she had once insisted on marrying.
Her parents, brother, and even her cousins had warned her he wasn’t good—
that he wasn’t a kind man.
But she hadn’t listened.
She had thought Xu Gaoyi was the best man in the world.

Blinded by love, she had insisted on marrying him—
dreaming of a warm, happy life, of being cherished like in their university days.
But that dream was a lie.

He had tried to destroy her entire family!
If not for Comrade Xiao, they would all be dead by now.

“Xiuwan, what are you saying? Gathering Yin what? I don’t know anything about that!
They’re lying to you—they’re trying to turn you against me!
You know me—I’d never hurt you or your family!”

Xu Gaoyi pointed angrily at Xiao Wange and Zhan Zeyan as he shouted.

Zhan Zeyan’s expression turned icy.

“If you’re a man, then act like one.
You did it—own up to it.
Or are you trying to tell us you’re not a man?”

The jab was sharp and cutting.

Xiao Wange raised an eyebrow and glanced at him—
who knew he could be this caustic?

From his place against the wall, Mu Yunhao spoke coolly,

“Mr. Zhan is right. Xu Gaoyi really isn’t much of a man.
A real man wouldn’t build his fortune off a woman.
A real man wouldn’t betray his wife and plot against her family.
He’s no man at all—just trash.”

He turned his head slightly, his look of disdain stabbing straight at Xu Gaoyi.

Only now did Xu Gaoyi and Tong Ningxiang notice Mu Yunhao standing there—
they had been too focused on the others to realize he was in the room.

Hearing his mocking tone, Xu Gaoyi’s rage flared;
he wanted nothing more than to punch him.
But he forced himself to hold it in, feigning calm.

“Cousin, that’s unfair.
I’ve never done anything evil.
I’ve never wronged Xiuwan.
I’ve always treated her like my savior—and her parents too!”

“Oh, really?”
Xiao Wange’s lips curled into a cold smile.
“You say you’ve never wronged her?
Setting aside the fact that you tried to murder her family—
what about the fact that you’ve been sneaking around with this woman and even got her pregnant?
How do you explain that, Comrade Xu?”

She pointed straight at Tong Ningxiang.

Tong Ningxiang’s pupils constricted.
Her whole body trembled uncontrollably.
She stared at Xiao Wange in shock—how could she possibly know that?
Not only that she was pregnant, but that the father was Xu Gaoyi.

But the most stunned of all was Qin Xiuwan.

Her eyes widened, disbelief flooding her face.

“Cousin… you’re pregnant with Xu Gaoyi’s child?
You and he—”

“Xiuwan, don’t listen to her! She’s lying!
Your cousin and I are innocent—nothing happened between us!
She’s making it all up to trick you!”

Xu Gaoyi shot Xiao Wange a vicious glare, then turned to explain himself.
He reached out, wanting to pull Qin Xiuwan into his arms—to drag her away.
But Mu Yunhao blocked his path, refusing to let him come closer.

Rage boiled in Xu Gaoyi’s chest. His vision reddened, his fists clenched tight.

Before he could speak again, Xiao Wange sneered,

“The child’s already over three months along.
A hospital check-up would confirm it instantly.
What do you say, Comrade Xu?
Shall we go right now and have her examined?”

Xu Gaoyi fell silent.
His brows knotted tightly, and he glared daggers at Xiao Wange.

Who is this woman? he thought furiously.
Why does she keep targeting me? Is it just because I pushed her brat before?

“Cousin… tell me the truth.
Are you really pregnant?
And the child—is it really Xu Gaoyi’s?”

Qin Xiuwan suddenly lunged toward Tong Ningxiang, trying to grab her by the shoulders.

Seeing this, Xu Gaoyi instinctively pulled Tong Ningxiang behind him—
afraid she might be shoved and harm the baby.

Watching his protective gesture, Qin Xiuwan froze—then laughed bitterly.

“Enough. You don’t need to say anything.
I see it all now—clear as day.
Xu Gaoyi, Tong Ningxiang—you really are a perfect pair of filthy, treacherous lovers!
You betrayed me!”

One was her closest childhood sister.
The other, the man she had loved since university.
And together, they had deceived her.

They even had a child.
How long had they been together behind her back?
How could she have been so blind—laughing and dining with them every day,
never suspecting a thing?

“Xiuwan, listen—I only held her just now because she’s your cousin.
I didn’t mean—”

“Still lying? Do you really take Xiuwan for a fool?
Or do you think the rest of us are fools too?”

Mu Yunhao’s voice was cold as ice, cutting him off.

Xu Gaoyi clenched his fists and ignored him, stepping forward again.

“Xiuwan, I love you! I really do, I—”

Before he could finish, a human head suddenly shot out from the wall.

Everyone except Xiao Wange, Zhan Zeyan, and Mu Yunhao screamed in terror.

The head’s mouth gaped wide—
and it flew straight at Xu Gaoyi, jaws snapping as if to bite him.

Xu Gaoyi let out a shrill scream and bolted for the door.
