Seeing that the child seemed to really like cars, Mu Yunhao’s lips curved slightly in a warm smile. His voice was gentle as he said,
“Yes, this is Uncle’s car. Zhao Zhao, do you like cars too? If you do, we can talk about cars together sometime.”

“I do! I do! I like them very much!” Zhao Zhao said quickly, his eyes lighting up as he turned toward Mu Yunhao with delight.
“Uncle Mu, can I sit in your car? I’ve never ridden in one before—I don’t know what it feels like.”

Children were always curious about new things—especially about cars, those fast, magical machines that could carry people around. The first time Zhao Zhao had ever seen one, he had been amazed and fascinated.

Now, seeing such a beautiful car again, and with such a kind owner, he couldn’t help but ask eagerly.

Mu Yunhao walked over, reached out, and gently ruffled his hair.
“Alright. I’ll drive you and your mother home later, and then you can experience what it feels like to ride in a car.”

“Really? Wow, thank you so much, Uncle Mu! You’re so nice!” Zhao Zhao’s face lit up with pure joy, unable to hide his excitement.

Xiao Wange glanced at him, then turned to Mu Yunhao and said,
“Mr. Mu, you’ve already driven us back to town. To have you take us all the way to the village too seems like too much trouble. Zhao Zhao and I can go back ourselves—you don’t need to send us.”

At those words, the excitement on Zhao Zhao’s little face instantly faded.

He lowered his head, his lips pressing into a pout, looking a little sad.

Mu Yunhao smiled kindly. “It’s no trouble. I’ve got nothing else to do today anyway. If I go home early, I’ll just be sitting idle. It’s no bother at all to give you a lift.”

Xiao Wange pressed her lips together. She didn’t want to trouble him—but she was also worried about gossip. After all, Mu Yunhao was a man.

If a man personally drove her back to the village, tongues would surely start wagging once the busybodies saw.

Her red lips parted, just as she was about to refuse again—when Taotao, who had gotten out of the car from the other side, piped up,
“Uncle, I like riding in cars too! Can I come with you to take Brother Zhao Zhao home? That way I can stay in the car a bit longer!”

Taotao was a smart child. Without being told, he already knew to call Mu Yunhao “Uncle.”

The word made Mu Yunhao pause for a second, but then his face broke into a broad smile.
“Of course. We’ll all go together.”

“Thank you, Uncle!” Taotao chirped, running over to Zhao Zhao.
“Brother Zhao Zhao, Uncle and I will take you home later!”

Taotao really liked Zhao Zhao—even his name had been chosen to sound similar.

Zhao Zhao, Taotao…

If you didn’t listen carefully, you might almost think they were the same name.

Zhao Zhao looked at little Taotao in front of him, then suddenly exclaimed in surprise,
“Wow! Baby, you’re alive! You have a real body now! That’s great—you’re alive again! Now we can play together!”

“Yeah! I’m a normal person now! We can go to school together and learn things together!” Taotao said excitedly, hugging Zhao Zhao’s arm.

Zhao Guixiang, who had gotten out of the car, had originally planned to take her child home immediately.
But seeing how happy Taotao was with Zhao Zhao, she hesitated.

She froze for a couple of seconds, then turned to Mu Yunhao and said,
“Since Taotao wants to go, I’ll go along as well. I’m afraid we’ll trouble you, Mr. Mu.”

Because of Mu Yuncheng, she didn’t have a very good impression of the Mu family. But no matter what, they were still Taotao’s relatives. So even if she didn’t like them, she had to be polite.

Mu Yunhao smiled. “Auntie, you’re too polite. It’s no trouble at all.” His tone was warm and courteous.

Then Shi Jin Zhu walked over to Xiao Wange, hesitated for a moment, and said,
“Something happened at our house earlier. Someone tried to kidnap Zhao Zhao—they almost took him away. Luckily, that bell you gave him protected him. Whatever was inside it came out in time and saved him.”

Even recalling it made Shi Jin Zhu tremble.

She had never imagined someone would actually dare break into their house to snatch a child! They had banged on the door, and when her mother opened it, they rushed in. The moment they saw Zhao Zhao, they grabbed him and tried to run.

She and her parents had tried to stop them, but those men were huge and strong. Her father was even shoved to the ground and injured.

Just when it seemed Zhao Zhao was about to be taken away, he suddenly took out that bell. When he shook it, something shot out from inside—and that thing drove the kidnappers away.

Hearing this, Xiao Wange didn’t seem surprised. She only said calmly,
“I already foresaw that someone might try to abduct the child. So I placed something protective on him beforehand.”

Mu Yunhao glanced at her, admiration flickering in his eyes.

She could foresee danger coming for her child, and she had the ability to protect him. She was not only a good mother but an incredibly capable master. He found himself more and more drawn to her—though he knew he shouldn’t be.

She was his benefactor, and besides, she was already married and had a child. He should only respect and revere her, not harbor other feelings.

But… he just couldn’t control it.

He had always prided himself on his self-control, yet standing beside her, it seemed to vanish completely.

He looked at her again, then shifted his gaze toward Zhao Zhao.

Zhao Zhao’s father must be an extraordinary man. Otherwise… how could he have married someone like her?

Zhao Guixiang, on the other hand, instantly guessed who was behind the kidnapping.

Her expression darkened, and she said sharply,
“That unfilial girl—she’s utterly heartless! I thought she might still have some remorse, but clearly, I was wrong!”

She was now more determined than ever to drive He Xiaokui out. A daughter like that could never come back—she’d only bring harm to the child. From now on, she’d make sure the child saw her as little as possible!

Xiao Wange gave her a glance but didn’t respond. He Xiaokui, like Mu Yuncheng, was rotten to the core. Once someone’s heart had gone bad, there was no saving them.

After chatting for a while with the Shi family, Xiao Wange and the others got into the car, and Mu Yunhao drove them toward the village.

Shi Jin Zhu, having nothing else to do, decided to tag along for a stroll.

On the way, she suddenly asked curiously,
“Comrade Xiao, how come we’ve never seen your husband? Is he not at home?”

Even when she’d visited Xiao Wange’s house before, she hadn’t seen this so-called husband. If not for Zhao Zhao, she might have suspected Xiao Wange’s marriage was a lie.

Xiao Wange’s brow twitched slightly. Her gaze stayed on the road ahead as she answered calmly,
“My husband’s in the army. He only comes back once in a long while.”

“Oh, so he’s a soldier!” Shi Jin Zhu grinned, nudging Xiao Wange playfully. “Then you must miss him a lot, huh? Have you ever gone to visit him?”

At the driver’s seat, Mu Yunhao glanced up at the rearview mirror, watching Xiao Wange’s reaction closely.

If her husband was gone for so long… did she miss him? If she did, then they must have a deep, loving relationship.

Xiao Wange frowned slightly. She had never even met Zhan Zeyan—how could she possibly miss him?

But saying she didn’t miss him in front of others would sound strange.

So, after a short pause, she replied,
“I do miss him. But he’s very busy with military duties, and it wouldn’t be right for me to disturb him. So I haven’t gone to see him.”

At her words, Mu Yunhao’s grip on the steering wheel tightened.

A faint feeling of disappointment welled up in his chest.

She did miss her husband… So they really did love each other deeply.

Zhao Guixiang smiled and joined in,
“He’s busy, sure, but he can’t be busy all the time. You and your son should go visit him once in a while. If you miss him, he probably misses you too. You could surprise him!”

Xiao Wange, inwardly, could only laugh dryly.

She and Zhan Zeyan had no real relationship. On their wedding night, he had left immediately. If she suddenly appeared at his base with a child in tow, it wouldn’t be a “surprise” — it would be a shock.

Not wanting to continue the topic, she turned to Zhao Zhao instead.
“Zhao Zhao, what do you want for dinner? Tell Mommy what you’d like, and I’ll make it for you.”

Zhao Zhao thought for a moment.
“Braised pork! Daddy loves braised pork, and I like it too! Mommy, when Daddy comes home, can we make it for him together? I bet he’ll really like it!”

Xiao Wange: “…”

This child… such a devoted little son, always steering the conversation right back to his father.

Once Zhao Zhao mentioned his dad, he couldn’t stop. The whole way, he kept chattering about him.

Whenever he asked questions, Xiao Wange could only nod and agree vaguely. But her responses only made Mu Yunhao and Zhao Guixiang even more convinced that she truly missed her husband — that their marriage was loving and happy.

Xiao Wange could only press her fingers to her forehead helplessly.

She really didn’t miss Zhan Zeyan. Really, she didn’t!

When the car entered the village, it immediately caused a stir.

Although the villagers had seen cars in town, this was the first time one had ever driven into the village itself.

Everyone ran out to look, curious to see who was driving and who was inside.

The car stopped in front of Xiao Wange’s house.

She got out with Zhao Zhao, but before she could even step inside, Zhao Lijuan — who had been waiting by her door — hurried over.

“Zeyan’s wife, you’re finally back! I’ve been waiting half an hour for you. Listen — your husband, Zhan Zeyan, he’s on his way home!”

Zhao Lijuan and her husband had called Zhan Zeyan earlier to tell him something, and to their surprise, he had said he was already returning.

As soon as she heard that, Zhao Lijuan knew she had to warn Xiao Wange in advance — to give her time to prepare.

At those words, Xiao Wange’s heart gave a jolt.

Her “cheap husband” was coming back? So soon?

Zhao Zhao’s health wasn’t fully recovered yet — what if Zhan Zeyan saw his frail body and got angry?

Zhao Guixiang and Shi Jin Zhu, who had just stepped out of the car, both smiled knowingly.

Zhao Guixiang said teasingly,
“Comrade Xiao, just a moment ago you said you missed your husband — and now look! He’s already on his way back. Seems he misses you too! You two really have a connection — thinking of each other at the same time.”
