Commander He glanced at the item and smiled faintly. “No need, Senior Elder. I already have a safety talisman.”
He then reached into his pocket and took out a talisman that Xiao Wange had given him earlier. He trusted that this talisman would definitely keep him safe.
The senior elder: “……” A trace of displeasure flickered across his face as he looked heavily at the talisman in Commander He’s hand.
Tang Huaishuang glared and complained to Commander He, “Commander He, the talisman drawn by our Senior Elder is ten, even a hundred times better than the one you have. That one in your hand looks useless. You should use the talisman drawn by our Senior Elder. It can guarantee you a hundred years of safety!”
She then tried to force the talisman from the senior elder into Commander He’s hand.
Commander He’s expression darkened.
He spoke slowly and firmly, “The talisman I carry was also drawn by a master. To discard it would be disrespectful to that master. So, Miss Tang, please do not trouble me any further.”
These Tang Sect people actually thought they could force him. Did they really believe no one dared to touch the Tang Sect?
Seeing how eager they were to push the talisman into his hands, he couldn’t help but suspect that it had been tampered with. Besides, when the Tang Sect had come to the unit before, they had never attempted to give anything. Now, they were suddenly offering something.
Clearly, their intentions were not good.
Tired of wasting words with them, Commander He called a guard to take these people to the cafeteria for a meal.
The senior elder said, “Commander He, shall we eat together? We can discuss the Qi Yun Mountain matter during the meal.”
Commander He replied, “I still have official business to attend to. You all go ahead—I’ve already instructed the cafeteria to reserve dishes for you.”
He picked up a file and began reading.
The senior elder: “……” Seeing that Commander He no longer wished to deal with them, he frowned, and a trace of displeasure slowly showed on his face.
But he said nothing more and turned to leave with the other Tang Sect members.
The talisman they had tried to give Commander He had indeed been tampered with. Unique symbols were drawn on it, allowing the senior elder to cast a spell and control Commander He.
However, this secret technique would backfire unless the caster’s power reached a certain level. In the entire Tang Sect, only the senior elder knew the spell. He had originally planned to sacrifice a bit of effort to control both Zhan Zeyan and Commander He.
But unexpectedly, things didn’t go as planned.
Annoyance churned in his heart as he clenched his fists, pondering his next move.
Zhan Zeyan returned home, and as soon as he stepped inside, Zhaozhao ran to him.
“Daddy, you’re home!” Zhaozhao hugged his leg.
Zhan Zeyan bent down and picked him up, his gaze soft as he looked at the child. “Did you go out with Mom this morning?” he asked quietly.
Zhaozhao shook his head. In his innocent voice, he replied, “No, Mom and I stayed home all morning. I practiced my writing in my room, and Mom was cleaning.”
Zhan Zeyan smiled and carried Zhaozhao toward the kitchen. “How was your practice? Any progress today?”
Zhaozhao hugged his neck and smiled. “Yes, Mom said so.”
Looking at his son’s beaming face, seeing how obedient and adorable he was, Zhan Zeyan felt his heart melt completely.
In the kitchen, Xiao Wange was placing the last dish into a bowl.
Seeing Zhan Zeyan carrying Zhaozhao in, she put down the spatula and said, “Go wash your hands. Dinner’s almost ready.”
Zhan Zeyan replied, “Mm,” set Zhaozhao down, then scooped some hot water from the pot and brought it to him. The pot always had some hot water during cooking, used in the evening for bathing and foot-soaking.
After washing their hands, Zhan Zeyan had Zhaozhao sit at the table outside while he helped Xiao Wange serve the dishes.
Once Zhaozhao was seated, Zhan Zeyan leaned toward Xiao Wange and whispered, “The Tang Sect people have arrived. I’ve already met them at Commander He’s office.”
Xiao Wange, holding two bowls of rice, tilted her mouth into a small smile and asked, “Did they say anything to you?”
Zhan Zeyan replied, “They wanted to give me a safety talisman, saying it was personally drawn by the Tang Sect’s senior elder. Judging by their attitude, they were determined to give it to me. But I didn’t take it. I suspect there’s something hidden about that talisman.”
Xiao Wange’s eyes gleamed. In a calm, measured voice, she said, “I destroyed a Tang Sect troublemaker, and now they want to give you a talisman. The Tang Sect is narrow-minded and vindictive, so that talisman… is probably deadly.”
Zhan Zeyan frowned. “That’s why I didn’t take it. Quite a few people came from the Tang Sect this time—not just several elders, but also two young women. The guards told me they’re Tang Huaijing’s elder sister and younger sister. The troublemaker you destroyed was Tang Huaijing. These two sisters probably came this time to take revenge themselves.”
Xiao Wange let out a light scoff, a mocking smile curling her lips. She said slowly, “If they have the ability, they can try. I don’t care.”
Zhan Zeyan looked at her. “I know you’re capable, but Wange, I still hope you stay cautious. Commander He plans to depart for Qi Yun Mountain tomorrow. I suspect they might strike along the way.”
Xiao Wange walked toward the kitchen exit. “If they want to act along the way, I’ll deal with them then.”
Zhan Zeyan: “……” Though worried she might face danger, in reality, given her strength, it would be the Tang Sect members who’d end up at a disadvantage. Hopefully, they’ll restrain themselves this time—otherwise, they’re only setting themselves up for failure.
Zhan Zeyan and Xiao Wange sat down at the table, lifting their bowls and chopsticks. Just as they were about to eat, someone knocked at the door.
With the knock came He Xiuyan’s voice: “Comrade Xiao~ Comrade Xiao~”
Hearing this, Zhan Zeyan froze, his face darkening instantly.
He glanced toward the door, then turned to Xiao Wange and Zhaozhao. “Eat. Don’t mind whoever’s outside.”
Xiao Wange: “……” She smiled faintly and looked toward the door. “Are you sure? After all, he’s your superior’s son.”
Zhan Zeyan placed a piece of food into her bowl. “It’s fine. That guy—let’s just stay as far from him as possible.”
