Long Yan returned to Hongta Mountain. He went back to that cave, planning to stay on the mountain for the night.
However, just as he sat down cross-legged, a dangerous aura suddenly filled the air.
Long Yan’s eyes sharpened, and he immediately stood up.
He raised his gaze toward the cave entrance and saw a tall, well-built man breaking through the barrier he had set and flying inside.
The man’s eyes were fierce. The moment he flew in, he flicked his wrist, and a powerful spell shot straight at Long Yan.
Long Yan narrowed his eyes and quickly dodged to the side.
He barely avoided the spell. It struck the rock behind him, instantly turning it into powder.
Glancing at the dust behind him, Long Yan clenched his fist and turned to look at the man. “Coming at me so ruthlessly—are you trying to kill me? But you know very well that I can’t be killed. As long as you’re still alive, I… won’t die.”
After saying this, Long Yan curled his lips and laughed heartily a few times.
But his laughter only made the intruding man even angrier.
The man raised his wrist again and launched another attack at Long Yan.
Long Yan gritted his teeth and flew forward to meet the attack head-on.
About ten minutes later, Long Yan was sprawled on the ground, a trace of blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
He lifted his head to look at the man, a provocative smile appearing on his face—yet within that provocation was a hint of tragic beauty.
He spoke slowly, “If you’ve got the ability, then really kill me. All these years, you’ve killed me so many times, yet you’ve never succeeded. Should I say you’re useless, or should I say I’m impressive?”
The man’s eyes darkened. He extended his palm, and a gust of force swept out. In an instant, five clear finger marks appeared on Long Yan’s face.
The man’s thin lips parted slightly, his low voice enunciating each word clearly: “Stay away from my wife and child. Otherwise… I’ll make you live in hell forever.”
With that, the man cast Long Yan a cold glance, turned around, and flew out of the cave.
Watching his retreating figure, Long Yan burst into loud laughter.
Laughing, he shouted, “Why should I listen to you? Do you really think you’re my master? If you’ve got the ability, then kill me! If you’ve got the ability, send me to hell right now!”
In response, a spell struck in from outside.
The spell slammed heavily into him. Unable to withstand its power, his body crashed to the ground with a loud bang.
He spat out a mouthful of blood, the tragic smile on his face growing even deeper.
If he could, he truly wanted to die right now. But the heavens insisted on keeping him alive—insisted on making him live under that man’s shadow.
Why was the heavens so cruel to him? Why treat him with such mercilessness?
He tugged at the corner of his mouth in a bitter smile, then suddenly lay flat on his back, staring at the cave ceiling as he screamed himself hoarse, “Why? Why?!”
…
The man who had stormed into the cave was none other than Zhan Zeyan.
Zhan Zeyan flew back home. Looking at his wife and child sleeping soundly on the bed, he curled his lips, a faint smile slowly appearing on his handsome face.
He stood by the bed watching them for several minutes, then turned over and climbed onto the bed, lying down beside Xiao Wange.
…
At exactly five o’clock in the morning, Zhan Zeyan woke up on time.
However, as he got out of bed to put on his clothes, his brows knit tightly.
For some reason, his entire body ached, as if he had run for days and nights without any rest.
He turned to look at the bed he had just slept on. Could it be the bed? Was it because he hadn’t slept in his own bed for so long that his body felt like this?
