Zhang Qiao thought her sister felt the money was too little, so she added, “Of course, this is just temporary. Later, if you get the chance, you can learn a skill and open your own shop. Making money in the city is easier than farming. At least you won’t have to beg for anyone’s favor or work without reward. Right?”
Every word Zhang Qiao said hit the mark. She had thought of everything for her sister. Zhang Ling could only feel grateful.
Her nose tingled. “Qiao Qiao, am I going to cause trouble for you and my brother-in-law?”
“Trouble? Our family’s short on hands anyway. Besides, I’m about to give birth, so later we’ll need you, the eldest aunt, to help with the baby.”
Zhang Ling pursed her lips. “Taking care of the baby is fine. Don’t you remember when we were kids, Xiaosong was raised by just the two of us?”
“Yeah, you were always the most careful. I trusted you the most since I was little.”
Zhang Ling’s lonely heart felt warm, coaxed by her sister.
Xu Liang’s words still echoed in her mind. How much did he look down on her? He assumed that once she left home, she wouldn’t even have the ability to survive.
A marriage that had reached that point was utterly meaningless.
Even if it was just to prove herself, this time she wouldn’t let the Xu family underestimate her.
Zhang Ling followed Zhang Qiao’s pace. “Qiao Qiao, where are we going? Aren’t we going back to your place?”
Zhang Qiao laughed and cried at the same time. “Sister, is your back not hurting anymore? I’m going to first find a TCM doctor to check it out.”
“It’s fine, Qiao Qiao. I just twisted it a little…”
Zhang Qiao ignored her protests and walked straight toward the hospital. “Sister, just listen to me. You have to learn to take care of yourself first. Only then will others treat you well.”
At the hospital, the doctor gave Zhang Ling a massage while Zhang Qiao took the chance to call Lin Tianyue.
He was still at a friend’s place but had left his number just in case she needed him.
Zhang Qiao briefly explained what had happened at the Xu household.
Hearing there was a conflict, Lin Tianyue broke out in a cold sweat. “Qiao Qiao, that bastard didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“No. The key moment was my sister being fierce. She head-butted Xu Liang so hard he almost herniated a disc.”
“Really, no injuries? I can’t tell… Your sister really protects you.”
“Yeah, I didn’t expect her to have such aggression.”
Even knowing Zhang Qiao was safe, Lin Tianyue still felt a lingering fear. “Qiao Qiao, when you’re out alone, you must not get into conflicts with others. If someone bullies you, tell me. I’ll make them pay a hundredfold! But you can’t act recklessly alone, do you understand?”
His tone was serious, almost harsh, but Zhang Qiao felt touched, her heart warm. “Yes, yes, I understand. Today Xu Liang bullied my family, and I was upset too.”
“Still, don’t confront him directly. He’s a man, you’re a woman. If you really fought, you’d suffer serious losses.”
Zhang Qiao was momentarily speechless, but an unfamiliar emotion surged in her chest.
“Got it. It won’t happen again.”
Lin Tianyue’s tense heart gradually relaxed at her soft tone. After reminding her a few more times, he hung up.
When Zhang Qiao returned, Zhang Ling had a patch on her back and anti-swelling medicine on her face.
It hadn’t seemed bad at first, but now her face was swollen, which made Zhang Qiao furious.
She hoped her sister had learned her lesson and wouldn’t let Xu Liang sweet-talk his way back into their home. If that happened, she wouldn’t intervene again.
That night, Zhang Qiao cooked a few eggs, peeled them, and rolled the warm eggs over her sister’s face to help with the swelling.
When Lin Tianyue came back and saw Zhang Ling’s injuries, he understood why Zhang Qiao was so angry.
Xu Liang really hit below the belt!
If he had done that to his own wife, Lin Tianyue would have skinned him alive.
Since they hadn’t bought a bed yet, Zhang Qiao arranged for Zhang Ling to stay in the small room temporarily.
After washing up, Zhang Qiao, following the doctor’s instructions, bent over the bed to do exercises for adjusting the baby’s position.
Her belly was already big, and she quickly felt exhausted.
Hungry from fatigue, she pressed her face against the bed and called teasingly toward the door, “Big oaf, come here! I want grapes!”
“Coming, coming!”
Fresh out of the shower, Lin Tianyue hurried to wash the grapes. When he entered with the glistening grapes, Zhang Qiao’s alluring posture made his scalp tingle.
She was kneeling on the bed, chest and face pressed down, knees apart at shoulder width, thighs at ninety degrees to the bed…
Her head tilted, her little face flushed, giving him a teasing look as if wanting to say something but holding back.
“So heavy… the baby is so heavy! I never felt this weight before!”
Lin Tianyue’s deep eyes lingered on her raised little buttocks. He didn’t speak, feeling restless.
“Qiao Qiao, are you testing your man?”
“Huh?” Exhausted, she didn’t catch up yet.
“I mean… wife, you should sit up. Like this, I…”
He really could get carried away.
Part of his body reacted involuntarily. He and Zhang Qiao married for her pregnancy, and before that, they’d only had that accidental encounter.
Back then he didn’t like her and had no feelings. Now, seeing the person he held dear every day, how could he remain unaffected?
His mind was clawed at like by a cat.
“I’m not sitting. Can’t sit. The doctor said every session must last at least ten minutes.”
Seeing her refusal, Lin Tianyue didn’t force her.
He sat there, peeling grapes one by one and feeding her the juicy fruit.
The juice ran over his hand, and to avoid wetting the sheets, he licked it off before giving her the next grape.
Looking up through her pajamas’ neckline, he glimpsed a treasure he shouldn’t see.
Lin Tianyue cursed inwardly.
Little minx… really a little minx!
After she gives birth, he would definitely take full advantage of her—just like today’s position!
After ten minutes, Zhang Qiao finally couldn’t hold on and turned over, lying down, panting heavily.
Her already delicate voice, combined with heavy breathing, had a different kind of allure.
Lin Tianyue swallowed hard and tugged at his collar.
He felt like a pervert now, though he clearly hadn’t been like this before.
Finally, Zhang Qiao tilted her head and noticed his small movements.
“Lin Tianyue, you’re hot!”
Meeting her sweet smile, he hummed and stopped. “Don’t tease me.”
“I teased you?” she asked, confused.
Lin Tianyue glared at her with lingering resentment.
He didn’t dare go near her, afraid he’d lose control and hurt her.
He stood up, picked up the empty bowl, and headed out. “Enough, go sleep. I’ll take a shower.”
Zhang Qiao lay there for a long time, still puzzled. Didn’t he just shower?
Why again?
After thinking for a moment, she realized: oh my, he’d been watching her earlier… could he have really been imagining things?
Her face heated up, then felt like it had been splashed with boiling water—burning hot.
That lecherous man, what’s on his mind?
