“Crash——”
Holding her breath, Jiang Huashan slowly poked her head above the lake surface. She stayed by the shore for a while, waiting to make sure there was no movement before daring to climb out.
Her hands, soaked for so long, had gone wrinkled and waterlogged.
No, the pain in her abdomen was getting worse. If she stayed in the water any longer, her body would break down.
She needed another way.
Jiang Huashan hid carefully in the bushes, curling herself into a tiny ball.
“That’s weird. I clearly saw her coming this way—where did she go?”
Suddenly, a black shadow emerged from behind a wall. It scanned the empty ground, then swung the rifle in its hand and began brutally smashing the roadside shrubs.
The rustling of branches grew closer and closer. Jiang Huashan’s expression changed slightly, her heart jumping into her throat.
Just as the next strike was about to land near her hiding spot, another voice suddenly rang out in the empty space.
“What are you doing here?”
The voice was cold, flat, but very young—almost emotionless. In the heavy rain and noise, it was barely noticeable.
Jiang Huashan covered her mouth and didn’t dare move, straining her ears to listen.
This was the closest she had ever been to the assassins. She might be able to catch a clue.
The frustrated man cursed loudly, “Fuck! That damn girl has been toying with us like dogs all night.”
The young voice replied calmly, “If she were that easy to kill, she wouldn’t be worth this price.”
Then another hoarse male voice spoke up. “What do we do now that we’ve lost her?”
Three people?!
Jiang Huashan closed her eyes and bit her tongue, forcing herself to stay calm. Any disturbance right now could cost her life.
“Follow the lakeshore. She can’t stay underwater forever.”
“Damn it, if I catch her I’ll skin her alive.”
“Shut up.”
The three of them stepped through the rain and headed toward the lake.
Jiang Huashan waited a while longer. When she heard nothing, she finally relaxed slightly—then immediately froze again, suppressing the urge to move.
“Tap, tap, tap——”
Soon, hurried footsteps returned to the clearing.
Her face tightened again as she closed her eyes and played dead.
“Fuck! She’s really not here! I clearly saw her come ashore here!”
The sniper narrowed his eyes. “We actually lost her?”
Three of them, chasing one girl, and they lost her?
This wasn’t just a failure—it was a humiliation.
Even Xia Xingshen hadn’t expected their target to be this troublesome. After scanning the area, he said coldly, “Go to the tower.”
They were leaving!
Jiang Huashan slowly opened her eyes. Just as she was about to breathe out, something suddenly occurred to her—and she held it back again.
“Drip… drip…”
A warm, spreading sensation.
Her period had leaked!!!!!!!
The rainwater mixed with a faint, almost unnoticeable pink tint, slowly seeping into the grass.
Her heart panicked instantly, beating wildly.
It was so dark. The rain was so heavy. They… they shouldn’t notice, right?
Suddenly, it felt like the rain above her had gotten heavier.
Jiang Huashan looked up in despair, hugging her knees tightly.
“BOOM——”
Thunder roared, white light flashed.
A man wearing a mask with a kunai design was crouched above her, looking down.
“……”
Her mind went completely blank.
The man narrowed his eyes and raised his gun, about to fire—
Suddenly, a loud shout rang out.
“Shen Qian? Shen Yuan? Shen Che? Shen Rang? Shen Zhi?”
The man paused, a strange flicker appearing in his eyes.
Jiang Huashan didn’t miss it. She grabbed a handful of mud and stuffed it into the gun barrel, then lunged upward and slammed into his face.
At the same moment, the man pulled the trigger.
The bullet grazed past her cheek, carving a bloody cut.
“Ah! How dare you hit my face—I’ll fight you!” Jiang Huashan bit down hard on his wrist.
Then she flipped away instantly, rolling down the slope and plunging straight into the lake again.
Her movements were smooth and fluid, done in one breath.
“What happened?” The other two rushed back after hearing the noise.
Xia Xingshen wiped his nose, slowly standing up from the ground with a cold hiss.
The sniper looked completely stunned. “She just slipped away right under your nose?”
“Holy shit, A-Shen? Since when did you get this useless?”
“Shut up.” Xia Xingshen’s eyes were full of killing intent as he stared at the bite mark on his wrist.
Although he had been caught off guard for a moment, he had clearly aimed at her forehead. At that distance, missing the shot was strange—very strange.
“What now?”
Xia Xingshen looked at the rain-washed blood on the ground. “Search along the lake. She’ll come up sooner or later.”
“A-Shen! Look!”
Across the lake, the girl had already climbed ashore. Through the heavy rain, she raised both hands—
And gave them two middle fingers.
“……”
“Fuck!”
No one could take that.
The sniper immediately raised his gun.
After a moment’s thought, Xia Xingshen patted his shoulder.
“Don’t aim for the vital spots.”
“You’re going soft at a time like this?!”
“Aim for the shoulder. Do as I say. Otherwise, your pay gets docked.”
“……”
Grinding his teeth, the man adjusted his aim and locked onto Jiang Huashan’s shoulder.
Bang——!
The bullet tore through the rain like lightning.
On the other side, the girl suddenly collapsed.
“HIT HER!!!” the man nearly cried in excitement.
Finally—after firing blanks all night, he finally hit one.
“Move.”
Just as they were about to advance, the figure on the shore suddenly raised her arm again.
And gave them another middle finger.
“……”
