Four groups of people?
Upon hearing this news, Fu Sui’er felt as if the sky had collapsed. Wasn’t everything supposed to be Zhou Yanheng’s prank? How did so many people suddenly appear?
“I don’t believe it. You’re lying! Brother Lanxi clearly said—”
“Brother Lanxi? Your Brother Lanxi is the biggest liar here.”
Bai Mi originally couldn’t be bothered to explain, but thinking about how he had been suppressed by Shen Lanxi for the past two years with no chance to fight back, a surge of irritation rose in him. The three Shen brothers were all equally strange. If he could make Shen Lanxi uncomfortable, he would be more than happy to.
“You’re the liar!” Fu Sui’er glared at Bai Mi fiercely. “You’re the one talking nonsense. Brother Lanxi is upright and never lies. I get it now—you’re jealous of our Shen family, jealous that my brothers are outstanding. You’re trying to sow discord.”
“Jealous of Shen Lanxi?” Bai Mi already felt disgusted just hearing that name. He stepped forward and flicked Fu Sui’er on the forehead. “What, you can’t handle it the moment I mention Shen Lanxi? You dare glare at me?”
Fu Sui’er’s eyes were red as she shouted, “I am glaring at you! You’re just jealous!”
“…”
Bai Mi gritted his teeth in frustration. Why were all the Shen family members so annoying?
He let out a cold laugh. “Upright and noble? He’s the type who would still help someone count money after being sold. Let me tell you the truth—Shen Lanxi already knew there would be chaos tonight, and he even allowed it to happen. No, to be precise, all three of your pretentious brothers knew. They ignored your safety for their own interests.”
Fu Sui’er’s face turned ashen. “Impossible!”
“What’s impossible? Even blood-related brothers turn on each other for profit, let alone you, who are only half-related at best.”
“I don’t believe it.”
Fu Sui’er clenched her fists tightly. She didn’t believe a single word of this villain. Even though there were conflicts among the elders of the three branches, that was their generation’s issue. They had grown up together—their bond couldn’t be fake.
There are always naïve fools in this world. Bai Mi couldn’t help but sneer.
“You really think all of this is just Zhou Yanheng’s prank? Shen Lanxi already knew Zhou Yanheng was colluding with sea bandits. The reason he concealed the truth wasn’t just to mislead Zhou Yanheng—it was to clean up the battlefield.”
“Clean up the battlefield?”
Bai Mi sat down calmly. “That’s right. Only by reassuring you would you obediently follow his arrangements. As for why he needed to clean up the battlefield…”
A sly smile flickered under his pale mask. “It’s because long before you arrived at the mountain villa, Shen Lanxi already knew someone was coming to assassinate him. Since he knew the villa was compromised, why do you think he still came?”
Fu Sui’er’s expression shifted slightly. To step into the game himself.
“Not completely stupid,” Bai Mi said, not missing the change in her eyes.
“Now do you understand? Your Brother Lanxi set a trap to lure out his enemies. But he didn’t expect another group hidden in the villa, nor did he expect Zhou Yanheng to collude with sea bandits. So, to avoid disrupting his plan, he could only deal with Zhou Yanheng and the bandits first.”
Fu Sui’er looked up. “But… you said there were four groups.”
“Correct.” Bai Mi’s tone carried a hint of schadenfreude. “Shen Lanxi is too arrogant, so even heaven doesn’t favor him. He and Shen Guiling think they’ve planned everything perfectly, but they still made a mistake. A sudden storm hit, the signal system was destroyed, and at that time, my group and another group sneaked into the villa.”
“How do you know there was another group?”
Bai Mi’s gaze darkened slightly. “Because I ran into them. That guy was ruthless too—lying in ambush on a tree in such heavy rain. He wasn’t afraid of being struck by lightning.”
He smirked. “I have to say, he was really willing to go all out just to kill you.”
“To kill me?” Fu Sui’er suddenly thought of something, her voice trembling.
Seeing her reaction, Bai Mi frowned. “What are you afraid of? You’re safe with me for now. Those people have been thrown off and can’t find us temporarily. You could say you’re quite lucky.”
Fu Sui’er looked at him. “And you? Why are you here? Why did you take Jiang… me?”
Bai Mi curled his lips and said nothing.
He had come because of someone else’s arrangement. Earlier, someone had sent a letter to his guard captain, claiming that Jiang Huashan had killed Bai Zheng. Not only that, the letter also included a detailed map of the villa and Jiang Huashan’s hotel room number.
He wasn’t stupid. Such meticulous planning clearly meant someone wanted to use him as a weapon.
But the person behind it had miscalculated. Although he and Bai Zheng were blood relatives, he had no affection for that perverted uncle. The reason he took Jiang Huashan was for the information Bai Zheng had.
So among the four groups, he was ironically the only one who actually wanted Jiang Huashan to stay alive. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have intervened against the others.
Seeing that he didn’t answer, Fu Sui’er changed her question. “You don’t have hostility toward me, right?”
“…”
Still no answer.
Fu Sui’er’s heart sank completely.
In that case, if Huashan had really been taken by this fool, she would actually be safer. Because they had unintentionally switched rooms—danger had been reversed.
BOOM—
Thunder roared, lighting up the dim room.
Fu Sui’er looked up. Bai Mi sat in the dim light, his pale, deathly mask devoid of any humanity.
After a moment of silence, she lowered herself to the ground and slowly moved toward him like a cocoon.
“Let me go. They’re in danger now. I need to go find them.”
“You’ll just be walking to your death if you go out,” Bai Mi said coldly.
Fu Sui’er met his gaze. “I know. That’s why I want to ask you to come with me.”
“…?”
Bai Mi was stunned. He had never been this speechless in his life. He was a kidnapper, not a police officer—was this hostage out of her mind?
Fu Sui’er said firmly, “I bet you’ll agree.”
“…Did you even understand what I just said?”
Fu Sui’er nodded. Her eyes were clear and determined. “I understood. That’s why I have to go even more. Brother Lanxi doesn’t know there’s another group. If his plan fails, they’ll be in danger.”
Bai Mi frowned. “He ignored your safety and you’re not angry? If it weren’t for me, you might already be dead.”
Fu Sui’er fell silent for a moment, then shook her head.
“You said it yourself—it wasn’t heaven on his side. Since heaven didn’t help him, as a member of the Shen family, I have even more responsibility.”
Bai Mi: “……”
