One hour later.
After regaining their composure, the grandfather and granddaughter arrived at the entrance of Whale River Hospital.
Su Jingliu asked, “Have you thought it through?”
Su Yun nodded.
These past few days, she had been trapped in nightmares she couldn’t escape from. Even so, Su Yun had never regretted her original decision.
Because that was her last desperate gamble when she had lost all hope—so even if it meant being torn to pieces and rejected by gods and ghosts, she accepted it.
She had once thought that was her destined life. But today, Su Jingliu told her she had more choices.
Those words moved Su Yun. For the first time, she wavered in the decision she had made.
Most people only fall into desperation when they are backed into a corner. If she had a choice, she too wanted to be someone gentle and kind to others—like Su Miao.
So, she wanted to try.
Su Jingliu understood her thoughts and pointed out objectively, “A-Yun, the Su family doesn’t represent Miao Miao. Whether she wants to see you depends on her own will. You can’t force her on this matter.”
Su Yun nodded. “Grandpa, don’t worry. I understand.”
The two of them eventually arrived at Su Miao’s hospital room, but when Su Jingliu entered first, he found that Su Miao was not inside.
His expression changed drastically, and he immediately called the guards. After a round of questioning, no one knew where Su Miao had gone.
Su Jingliu was furious and immediately mobilized people to search for her. Right now, the Su family and the Fu family were in a standoff—Su Miao’s sudden disappearance naturally made the Su family suspect the Fu family.
In an instant, Whale Harbor was thrown into panic, tension rising everywhere.
South Bay.
Jiang Huashan cautiously peeked her head out of the bedroom. After waiting a while and hearing no movement, she quietly slipped out of the room, tiptoed to close the door, and just as she turned—
The doors on both sides opened at the same time. Two tall figures stepped out simultaneously.
Shen Guiling was wearing a deep indigo pullover sweater. He rarely wore such bright colors, but it suited him so well that it was striking at first glance. Even Jiang Huashan, startled as she was, couldn’t help but glance at him again.
Shen Lanxi looked at his white shirt and his expression darkened slightly.
The wide corridor suddenly filled with three people, becoming cramped in an instant.
Shen Guiling glanced at the backpack on Jiang Huashan’s shoulder. “You’re going out?”
“Yeah.”
Shen Lanxi asked, “Where to?”
Jiang Huashan suppressed her irritation. “The port.”
Shen Lanxi originally wanted to ask who she was meeting, but seeing that she was already unhappy, he swallowed the question.
Shen Guiling took out his phone. “Let Mo Ran go with you.”
Jiang Huashan shot him a sideways glance—clearly defiant.
Shen Guiling, unusually firm, said, “This is South Bay. The harbor is full of all kinds of people. Mo Ran must go with you.”
Jiang Huashan thought for a moment and didn’t refuse outright. “But I already made an appointment, and the time is almost up. If we wait for Mo Ran, we’ll be late.”
Shen Guiling said, “I’ll take you there first. Mo Ran can meet you at the port.”
That arrangement didn’t seem unreasonable. Jiang Huashan reluctantly nodded. “Fine.”
Shen Lanxi’s gaze flicked between the two of them, his expression growing colder. He was about to turn away when someone suddenly grabbed his sleeve.
He paused and turned back.
Jiang Huashan smiled at him. “Brother Lanxi, are you busy?”
Shen Lanxi thought of the hundreds of messages Gao Zhi had sent him overnight requesting a meeting and shook his head. “No.”
“Perfect.” Jiang Huashan grinned. “Come with us to the port too?”
She didn’t want to be alone with that 99.99% “fish.”
The distance in Shen Lanxi’s eyes faded slightly. He nodded. “Alright.”
Jiang Huashan turned and raised an eyebrow at Shen Guiling, deliberately brushing past him in his beautiful sweater, walking off with her chin held high.
Shen Guiling lowered his eyes and smiled faintly.
“Miss Jiang, are you alright?”
In the rearview mirror, Lei Xing looked at the three people in the back seat, confused. Was it really necessary for all of them to squeeze back there? Didn’t the front seat deserve a passenger too?
Shen Guiling, temporarily appointed as a publicity secretary in South Bay, kept a low profile. His car was an Audi A4 starting at around 200,000 yuan.
The back seat wasn’t small, but Shen Guiling and Shen Lanxi sat on opposite sides, their long legs casually stretched out, leaving Jiang Huashan barely any space.
To maintain a clear boundary between them, she sat upright like a river separating two shores.
“I’m fine, just drive carefully.”
No sooner had she spoken than a pedestrian suddenly rushed into a crosswalk. Lei Xing swerved and braked sharply. Jiang Huashan lurched sideways straight into Shen Lanxi’s arms.
“……”
Both froze. Shen Lanxi instinctively steadied her shoulder. “Are you okay?”
Jiang Huashan shook her head and quickly sat upright again.
Shen Guiling’s smile faded slightly. “Lei Xing, drive properly.”
“Sorry, Miss Jiang,” Lei Xing quickly apologized.
“It’s fine,” Jiang Huashan said. “Just hurry, we’re running out of time.”
“Understood.”
From Shen Guiling’s residence to the South Bay port was only about ten minutes, but Lei Xing kept taking right turns to avoid traffic lights.
Yet strangely, every intersection had pedestrians suddenly rushing across. Within ten minutes, Jiang Huashan had already fallen into Shen Lanxi’s lap three times. The last time, her face even hit his chest directly.
Shen Lanxi stiffened noticeably.
Jiang Huashan suddenly felt her wrist being pulled, and her body was yanked upright.
Shen Guiling got out of the car, a faint smile not reaching his eyes. “We’ve arrived. Get out.”
Jiang Huashan felt genuinely sorry for Shen Lanxi. Others might not know, but she did—he had mild germaphobia. Being bumped into three times today probably made him furious.
She hadn’t meant to provoke him today.
“Uh, I’ll go first.”
She muttered a quick goodbye, glared at Shen Guiling, and rushed into the crowd.
Shen Lanxi lowered his head, his gaze lingering on his chest. On his white shirt, there was a faint pink lip print.
