“Ding—”

Shen Guiling strode out of the elevator.

Lei Xing had already been waiting for a while. Hearing the movement, he immediately stepped forward.

“Young master.”

Shen Guiling’s tone was calm and indifferent. “Go to the police bureau.”

Lei Xing raised a hand to block Shen Guiling’s path, his gaze darkening as he looked toward the black sedan parked in the exclusive space.

Shen Guiling immediately understood something. He stopped and looked up.

“Bang—”

A loud explosion rang out. The black sedan’s window suddenly shattered, and the vehicle ignited on its own. Within a minute, flames engulfed the entire car. The scorching heat dispersed the winter chill, while thick smoke twisted everything in sight into something warped and grotesque.

“Young master.” Lei Xing looked at Shen Guiling with concern. “We’ve already called the police. The smoke is heavy here—we shouldn’t stay long.”

As the steward appointed by Shen Zhuang, Lei Xing knew the young master’s taboos well. One of them was to avoid firelight. Though he didn’t know the reason, the order had to be strictly followed.

Shen Guiling stood motionless, watching the blazing fire. The warmth in his eyes slowly sank into something deeper and colder.

It was the weekend, and the administrative building of the police bureau was quiet, with only a few staff on duty. The director’s office door was slightly open, and bursts of loud, mocking laughter drifted out intermittently.

A staff member on duty quickly walked past, afraid to get dragged into trouble.

Someone came up the stairs, and they almost collided. Lei Xing reacted instantly, pushing the staff member three steps back by the shoulder.

“You… who are you people?” the young staff member asked, pale with fear.

At that moment, the laughter inside the office grew even more outrageous.

“Do you think that young master might pee himself from fear?”

“Hahaha! I heard he even called the police—does he think anyone in Nanwan would dare intervene?”

“Call the police? He might as well call the boss directly and skip the procedures! Hahaha!”

The young staff member broke into a cold sweat, keeping his head down.

Shen Guiling patted his shoulder. “You’re off duty.”

“Ah?” The staff member froze, not reacting at first.

Shen Guiling’s expression remained gentle. He calmly walked past him.

Only then did the staff member look up—and realize the entire corridor and floor were filled with black-clad bodyguards.

“……”

Inside the office.

Several greasy middle-aged men were smoking cigars and laughing heartily. Yao Yongwei, with his large belly, sat with his legs crossed, shaking his foot smugly.

“A lowly illegitimate son dares challenge me? The only dead people he’s ever seen are his dead mother. Overestimating himself.”

“Bang—”

The office doors of supposed justice were kicked open from outside.

“Who is it!”

Everyone inside changed expression and stood up defensively.

“I just heard my car in the garage downstairs was blown up,” Shen Guiling said as he walked in leisurely, a faint smile on his lips. “The police haven’t responded, so I had no choice but to come personally ask Director Yao—what step did I miss in the process?”

Yao Yongwei sneered and sat back down. “Secretary Shen, you should’ve informed us in advance. We’re in a confidential meeting. No outsiders allowed. See yourself out.”

Shen Guiling glanced at the others and walked straight to the desk—then sat down in Yao Yongwei’s chair.

Yao Yongwei’s expression changed slightly. “What do you mean by this?”

Shen Guiling didn’t answer. He lightly tapped the desk with his finger.

In the next second, Lei Xing and a group of men entered, instantly occupying the less-than-20-square-meter office.

They were cold-faced, heavily murderous in presence, with bulges at their waists—clearly not ordinary people.

Only then did Yao Yongwei feel a trace of fear. He forced a smile. “Young Master Shen, isn’t this a bit excessive? This is the Nanwan Police Bureau. If this escalates, it’ll make the news. Even Mr. Shen might not approve.”

Shen Guiling ignored him, resting his chin on one hand while casually moving the mouse and keyboard, as if he were playing Minesweeper.

Yao Yongwei subtly signaled to a subordinate. The subordinate nodded and quietly reached into his clothes, preparing to press the alarm button—

“Found it.”

Before anyone could react, Lei Xing suddenly moved.

One punch smashed into the man’s face. Before he could even scream, Lei Xing twisted his neck, pressed a silenced pistol to him, and fired.

Clean. Precise. No hesitation.

Blood flowed quietly.

“Ahhh!!”

The rest of them collapsed in panic, kneeling and begging for mercy.

Yao Yongwei froze, eyes locked on Shen Guiling.

Shen Guiling lifted his gaze and turned the computer screen toward him. The bodyguards stepped aside.

“Director Yao, care to explain?” he said calmly. “A low-ranking official with an annual salary of 500,000… yet you hold assets worth 3.5 billion. Quite the talent.”

Yao Yongwei’s face darkened. Realizing Shen Guiling was here to strike back, he forced himself to stay composed.

He kicked over the coffee table. “Since we’re being honest, I’ve got nothing to fear. Water is clear only when there are no fish. I’ve managed Nanwan for ten years for Mr. Shen, helped control ports and docks. Taking a bit of profit isn’t excessive. Do you think Mr. Shen doesn’t know? Dare you investigate where the real tribute money goes?”

Seeing Shen Guiling remain silent, Yao Yongwei regained confidence.

“I am the Nanwan Chief Police Commissioner. Even if there’s wrongdoing, it should go through the prosecutor’s office. Who do you think you are? Illegally assembling and breaking into the police bureau—ignorant brat!”

Lei Xing looked back at Shen Guiling.

At that moment, the young man still had a faint, gentle smile at the corner of his eyes.

Lei Xing understood.

He drew his gun and quietly chambered a round.
