Fu Jiaming’s face was dark as he grabbed a burning cigar and flung it straight at Xia Xingchen’s face.
“You’ve got some nerve—almost killed my daughter.”
The ember struck the side of Xia Xingchen’s face, leaving a blistered burn. He didn’t fight back, only explained truthfully, “Boss, the target was Shen Mianzhi at the time. But someone interfered midway, and Miss Fu rushed to protect that person and ended up stepping in front, which is why she was accidentally injured.”
Fu Jiaming looked at him like he was nothing more than a dog.
“All the shooters have already been dealt with. So now it’s just your word left, isn’t it?”
That night, the Shen family’s dark unit suddenly appeared and completely disrupted their plan. After learning that Fu Sui’er had been the one shot in the end, Fu Jiaming flew into a rage and directly eliminated the sniper.
Xia Xingchen lowered his head. “Boss, I’m sorry. I’m willing to accept any punishment.”
Fu Jiaming gestured at his men. “Throw him into the electric shock room.”
The men used steel rods to restrain Xia Xingchen’s dislocated arm and dragged him out.
After they left, Fu Jiaming pointed at the seat below. “Has the Su family side been handled clearly?”
The bald man, who no longer carried the arrogant attitude he had in front of Su Li, nodded cautiously. “The girl from the Su family is still young. As long as Su Li follows our instructions, she’ll definitely be forced into a corner and used by us. The Su family would never expect that their precious daughter would end up becoming our inside agent.”
Finally some good news. Fu Jiaming’s expression softened slightly.
“What about the real daughter of the Su family? Has the initiation been settled yet?”
The bald man immediately replied, “Don’t worry, Master Fu. We’ve already found a way. It’ll take at most a month—she won’t be able to escape my grasp.”
Fu Jiaming nodded in satisfaction.
The transactions within the sect were extremely complex. They had once tried to form an alliance with the Su family, but the Su family had never clearly taken a side. Su Jingliu had been playing both sides all along.
He wanted to see what would happen if the Su family’s precious daughter was dragged into this swamp—how clean could they remain then?
Seeing Fu Jiaming’s mood improve, the bald man finally relaxed and quickly poured him tea.
“Master Fu, are we still going after Jinshan land?”
At the mention of Jinshan, Fu Jiaming’s expression darkened again.
Originally, they had set up such a huge scheme to force the Xiao family to spit out the development rights of Jinshan. But after going in circles, it ended up benefiting the Shen family instead. Even worse, Shen Zhuang actually handed such a massive piece of cake to Shen Jiao—and the most infuriating part was that Shen Jiao had managed to produce 200 billion.
Two hundred billion!!!
Back when they divorced, Fu Jiaming had feared Shen Jiao would covet his assets and made a condition: if she wanted the child, she had to give up any property division. To appear generous, he even claimed he looked down on her dowry and that they would sever ties completely.
Now thinking back, he wanted nothing more than to slap himself. That woman had been so rich—and she had hidden it from him.
Fu Jiaming drank the tea in one gulp. “Withdraw the funds first.”
This game was already lost. There was no chance of turning it around. The priority now was to plan a new move.
He took out his phone and quickly typed into his contacts:
[The Su family bait has been set. Notify me when it’s time to reel in?]
The reply came quickly.
[No need. I’m not entering this game. You handle it yourselves.]
Fu Jiaming let out a cold laugh.
Cautious, huh. No wonder he had managed to stay hidden for so many years without being discovered.
He put away his phone, fingers tapping lightly.
The bald man immediately stepped forward, took out a cigar from the humidor, cut it, lit it, and served him attentively.
Fu Jiaming stared at the ember at his fingertips. Suddenly—his mind flashed with inspiration. He crossed his legs and said calmly, “Go, bring Xingchen back.”
The bald man froze for a moment, confused, but still obeyed.
Soon, Xia Xingchen was dragged back into the room.
“Boss,” the burly man said, throwing him at Fu Jiaming’s feet.
Fu Jiaming leaned down, gripping Xia Xingchen’s chin with one hand, narrowing his eyes as he studied him closely.
“Xingchen, what do you think of my daughter?”
“No way! Bring a voice recorder too, just in case that woman tries any tricks.”
Su Miao wore a fisherman’s hat. Just as she was about to leave the room, she went back in to grab her glasses. When she walked into the living room, she saw a delicate fruit knife on the table. After thinking for a moment, she quietly slipped it into her bag when the maid wasn’t looking.
Su Zhuo walked in from outside and noticed how sneaky she looked. He couldn’t help but ask curiously, “What are you doing? You look like a thief.”
Su Miao jumped in fright and quickly forced herself to stay calm, smoothing her bangs. “N-nothing…”
Su Zhuo glanced at her, casually picked up an apple. “Going out? Where to? I don’t have class this afternoon, want me to drive you?”
“No!” Su Miao immediately refused. “I’ll take the bus myself.”
Su Zhuo laughed at her. “Can you even find the stop?”
Su Miao looked utterly hopeless. “Even if I can’t, I have to find it. That’s my fate.”
“Hm? What are you mumbling about?”
Su Miao shook her head. “Nothing. Anyway, don’t worry about it.”
This rebellious streak again? Su Zhuo sighed helplessly, but his gaze was still indulgent. “I’m your brother. If I don’t care about you, who will?”
Su Miao turned her head away, putting on a look of stubborn endurance. “My life is already set in stone. Don’t waste any more effort on me in the future—it’ll only become a burden to me.”
With that, she strode heavily out of the living room.
Su Zhuo was baffled. “Is she… acting in a drama?”
“Zhuo.” Old Master Su came down the stairs holding the railing, looking around. “Where’s that girl? Out causing trouble again?”
Su Zhuo stood up. “Yeah, she just went out.”
Su Jingliu walked over and sat on the sofa. “Did you check when you went to her school last time? Has Miao Miao made friends with any shady people and gotten led astray?”
Lately, she had been acting completely out of character. Two days ago, she even got drunk and was brought home by a boy from the Qiao family—she clung to his leg and refused to get out of the car, crying that this wasn’t her home. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think the Su family was trafficking people.
Su Zhuo shook his head. “Grandpa, you’re overthinking it. Other than the Zhou girl, no one even wants to play with her. Who could possibly lead her astray?”
Su Jingliu immediately became even more displeased. “Our Miao Miao is so cute—are those people blind? Why won’t they play with her?”
Su Zhuo didn’t dare respond and quickly changed the topic. “Auntie, where’s the fruit knife?”
The maid hurried out from the kitchen, searching around the counter. “That’s strange. I clearly left it here this morning.”
It wasn’t a big deal, so Su Zhuo didn’t think much of it and went back to peeling fruit.
At that moment, Steward Su led Zhou Qishan in from outside. Zhou Qishan was holding homemade cookies and smiling as she greeted Old Master Su and Su Zhuo.
“Hello, Grandpa Su. Hello, Brother Zhuo. Where’s Miao Miao? I made some snacks and wanted her to try them.”
Su Zhuo paused slightly and glanced at Old Master Su. “She just went out. Didn’t you two make plans?”
Zhou Qishan froze. “She went out?”
Old Master Su noticed her disappointment and smiled politely. “That girl has no luck with food. Come, let Grandpa Su try some.”
Zhou Qishan forced a smile, exchanged a few polite words, and then left the gift behind before heading back.
After she left, Old Master Su stood up and kicked Su Zhuo. “You saw that? That girl definitely has someone outside. She’s been acting so strange lately—it’s probably because she got mixed up with some bad influence. Go investigate immediately!”
