Jiang Huashan hadn’t expected to run into Shen Guiling again so soon. Wasn’t this guy supposed to be “fishing” in the pavilion?
But right now, she didn’t have the time to deal with him. Keeping a serious expression, she continued explaining, “There’s been a misunderstanding in this matter. You know what kind of person I am, don’t you? As for the rest, it’s not convenient for me to disclose. That’s all—see you.”
Before Shen Qingyu could react, she turned and ran back to her own courtyard.
“…” Shen Qingyu’s expression remained indifferent. With his hands in his pockets, he walked over to Shen Guiling. “Brother A-Ling, working this hard? Out doing business so early in the morning?”
Shen Guiling lifted his gaze.
Shen Qingyu bent down slightly, a teasing look in his eyes. “If I were you, I’d find a way to get rid of that old man.”
Lei Xing froze, almost thinking he had misheard.
Shen Guiling turned slightly, tilting his head to look at Shen Qingyu, his emotions steady. “Did you forget to take your meds before coming out?”
Shen Qingyu raised a brow and patted Shen Guiling’s shoulder. “With how well you can pretend, if it weren’t for plotting to wipe out his whole family, I’d almost feel sorry for you.”
What kind of outrageous nonsense was that?!
Lei Xing kept a blank face, though his thoughts were in turmoil.
Shen Qingyu straightened and glanced at Lei Xing, his expression smug. “Grandpa does treat you pretty well.”
Shen Guiling smiled faintly, lifting a hand to brush off the spot Shen Qingyu had patted. “Steward Lei, let’s go.”
“Yes.” Lei Xing nodded expressionlessly at Shen Qingyu and pushed the wheelchair past Plum Garden.
Shen Qingyu let out a scoff, hands in his pockets as he headed straight toward Chrysanthemum Garden.
After returning to Chrysanthemum Garden, Jiang Huashan peeked out from the courtyard gate. Seeing Shen Qingyu blocking Shen Guiling and picking a fight, she let out a small sigh of relief. A person’s energy was limited—if he was busy targeting Shen Guiling, he wouldn’t have time to come after her.
Just as she thought that, the two parted ways at the entrance of Plum Garden, and Shen Qingyu turned and walked straight toward her.
Jiang Huashan’s face fell. Looks like Shen Qingyu wouldn’t give up without getting to the bottom of this.
The gate to Chrysanthemum Garden was tightly shut. Shen Qingyu raised his hand to knock, but the door opened on its own. He lifted a brow slightly, nudging it open with his foot. The moment he stepped inside, he saw Jiang Huashan sitting under a flower trellis, with a small table in front of her laden with an array of tea and snacks.
“Sit.” Anyone who didn’t know better might think she had been waiting for him all along.
A faint curve tugged at Shen Qingyu’s lips as he strolled over. “Putting on a calm front after causing such a big mess won’t help.”
Jiang Huashan wasn’t petty. On her way back to Chrysanthemum Garden earlier, she had been intercepted halfway and invited into Plum Garden by Shen Qingyu. At first, she thought he was there to settle accounts over yesterday’s incident. Instead, the guy casually produced a stack of bank transfer records, along with a pile of photos of her talking to Xia Xingchen at the entrance of No. 1 High School.
Honestly, it had caught her completely off guard.
She immediately turned to leave, but Shen Qingyu chased her to the door. Just as he was about to grab her, they ran into Shen Guiling.
She had rushed off back then because everything had happened so suddenly and she hadn’t figured out how to argue her way out of it—but now, she was fully prepared.
Jiang Huashan clenched her fist and slammed it heavily onto the table. “Shen Qingyu, you had someone follow me? What right do you have to investigate me? This is my privacy! I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person!”
“…” Shen Qingyu hooked a chair out with his foot and sat down, looking utterly unconcerned. “I didn’t take the photos—Guan He did. Thanks to that anonymous help post of yours that got twenty thousand views, both he and I went viral. That guy wasn’t satisfied, so he handed over your evidence of living it up outside.”
Guan He had deliberately tried to get back at Jiang Huashan, so all the photos were misleading angles. Anyone unaware of the situation could easily misunderstand just from looking at them.
“Living it up? With that level of vocabulary, you still want to get into a military-political academy?”
“Don’t change the subject.” Shen Qingyu didn’t fall for it. “That day you skipped school—was it to meet this pretty boy? You’ve really been secretly dating behind your family’s back? Hm?”
Each question was asked lightly, but that final “hm” carried a hint of danger.
Jiang Huashan’s mind raced. Should she explain everything clearly? No… better to just admit it outright. Right now, Sui’er was completely on her side—if she admitted it, Xia Xingchen would never be able to shake Sui’er. One move to settle it all, and she wouldn’t have to waste energy later guarding against Xia Xingchen’s storyline.
“Yes…”
She had barely started speaking when Shen Qingyu cut her off, not giving her a chance. “You still have to think about it? Seems like you don’t like him that much. If it hasn’t started, then don’t start. If it already has—break up.”
Jiang Huashan glared. “Says who?”
This had nothing to do with Xia Xingchen—she simply couldn’t stand someone trying to dictate her life.
Shen Qingyu’s expression remained indifferent. “I can’t investigate you, but I did look into him. He’s not a good person.”
Jiang Huashan immediately fell silent. Of course she knew Xia Xingchen wasn’t a good person—otherwise she wouldn’t have gone out of her way to stop him from harming Sui’er. Even if Sui’er might not fall for it now, the price would be too high. It was always better to prevent trouble before it started.
“Alright then.” She replied reluctantly, then quickly put on a serious face to explain, “Actually, I never took him seriously. He’s just a passerby. Don’t worry—fun is fun, but I know my limits.”
With that, she stood up, ready to leave.
Shen Qingyu tapped the table. “Now that you’ve talked about ‘passersby,’ let’s talk about your ‘true loves.’”
Jiang Huashan froze. What nonsense—where would she even get any “true loves”?
Shen Qingyu pulled out a stack of transaction records from his pocket and tossed them onto the table.
Jiang Huashan glanced at them casually, then quietly sat back down.
Looking at those transactions—longer than his own life—Shen Qingyu felt his anger rise, but he forced himself to stay calm. “No wonder you keep saying you’re short on money. Turns out you’ve been keeping a boy band outside?”
Jiang Huashan lowered her head and picked at her fingers. This kid was getting harder and harder to fool. Could it be that all twenty-something young men had been exposed at once?
Shen Qingyu had no idea she was still thinking about how to wriggle out of it. He assumed her silence meant guilt and gritted his teeth. “You bargain and wait for discounts just to buy me a hand cream, but when it comes to the boy band, you won’t settle for anything less than the latest luxury goods. Jiang Huashan! Do you even have a heart?!”
Jiang Huashan blinked, quickly picking up the documents. The hand cream originally cost 1130, discounted through a cross-store promotion—spend 300 get 30 off—bringing it down to 1040.
That alone wasn’t infuriating. What was worse was the item right below it: a luxury custom coat—250,000.
God only knew what Shen Qingyu felt when he saw this list.
Jiang Huashan awkwardly put the records down. From Shen Qingyu’s perspective, it really was a bit too much—after all, he was also the biggest sponsor of that “boy band.”
Rarely patient, she said, “Listen to my explanation.”
Shen Qingyu took a deep breath. “It better be reasonable.”
Jiang Huashan nodded and cleared her throat. “If I told you this is just a small hobby in my vast life… could you understand that?”
“Heh…” Shen Qingyu laughed in anger.
Jiang Huashan continued, “It’s okay if you don’t understand, but you’re my brother—you’ll support me, right?”
Even now she dared to play the moral high ground. How could such a small body have such audacity?
Shen Qingyu stood up, grabbed her by the collar, and lifted her. “Hobby? Interest? What kind of girl’s hobby is collecting boy bands and spending money on pretty boys? You call this true love! All the money given to you over the years—you wouldn’t even buy yourself clothes, but you spent it all on other men! Jiang Huashan, how old are you? How could you do something like this? And the worst part—every single one you’re supporting is older than you! You think you’re that capable? Even Shen Guiling would have to call you master when he sees you!”
Could she really be blamed?
Wasn’t it because that group of rich ladies, including Fang Mei, were too good at playing the game? If she wanted to gather information, she had to be generous.
“Keep your voice down.”
“Keep it down?” Shen Qingyu poked her forehead. “So you do know shame?”
Zhang Ru heard the commotion in the courtyard and hurried out of her room. When she saw Shen Qingyu grabbing Jiang Huashan by the collar, her face turned pale. She rushed forward and pulled him away. “Young Master Qingyu, what are you doing?”
Shen Qingyu couldn’t be bothered to argue with Zhang Ru and stepped back. Seeing this, Jiang Huashan immediately pointed at him and complained, “Aunt Zhang, he hit me.”
Zhang Ru looked at Shen Qingyu reproachfully. “Young Master Qingyu, that’s not right. Miss Jiang is a girl—whatever it is, you should talk it out, not use force.”
Shen Qingyu was so angered by her shamelessness that he nearly went numb. Not a hint of remorse—clearly she had no intention of stopping.
He grabbed the bamboo scratcher from the table, pushed Zhang Ru aside, and dragged Jiang Huashan in front of him.
Jiang Huashan blinked. “What are you doing?”
Shen Qingyu pressed her shoulders, forcing her into a chair, tapping her forehead lightly with the bamboo stick.
“You—write me a letter of guarantee right now.”
Jiang Huashan: “…”
“What’s all the noise about?”
Just as the two were glaring at each other, an unexpected guest appeared at the door.
