After hanging up the phone, Shen Rang waited. Soon enough, Shen E and Xiao Qi rushed to the school with their men.
The moment they saw their precious daughter being dragged along, suspended from a helicopter, it felt as if the sky had collapsed.
Shen E broke down emotionally. If Xiao Qi hadn’t held her back, she would have rushed forward and torn Shen Rang apart.
“You actually dare to treat my daughter like this?! Shen Rang, I’ll kill you!!!”
Shen Rang had deliberately delayed things just to wait for the Xiao family. Completely fearless, he took a handgun from his assistant and pointed it at Xiao Qi’s forehead.
“I’m warning you—keep your daughter in check. If I ever see her bullying my daughter again, it won’t be just a ‘lesson’ next time.”
With that, Shen Rang took Shen Mianzhi’s hand and walked toward the center of the runway. As he passed Shen Lanxi, he paused slightly.
“Tell your grandfather—we’re heading back now.”
“This is outrageous! He’s completely lost his mind!” Shen E glared at Shen Rang’s retreating figure. “I will never let this matter go!”
Xiao Qi looked at the mass of black-clad armed men, his expression grave. “Let’s go back to the Shen residence first.”
Shen E nodded. Her gaze swept across everyone on the field. When it landed on Shen Qingyu, her expression turned complicated and chilled.
She had always thought she treated this nephew well, but she never expected him to stand by and watch as his cousin was humiliated.
Fu Xiaoxiao was utterly terrified by Shen Rang’s ruthless, hell-like methods. She didn’t dare say a word the entire time, afraid the Shen family might suddenly remember that she was the instigator.
After Shen Rang left with Shen Mianzhi, the armed forces on the field withdrew as well. The helicopter circled above the school one last time before disappearing.
Such a dramatic scene left varying degrees of psychological shadow on everyone at Yucai.
With such a major incident at home, there was no way anyone could continue classes. Shen Lanxi and the others returned to the Shen residence as well.
Shen Zhi was already waiting outside. Without saying a word, he led them straight to Qinyuan.
The atmosphere in Qinyuan was exceptionally heavy. The moment they stepped in, the scene before them stunned everyone.
Xiao Qi and Shen E were kneeling outside the side hall, and Shen E was crying to the point of exhaustion.
Under the flower trellis, Shen Rang was being whipped. The one carrying out the punishment was Zheng Song. No one knew how many lashes had already been delivered—but Shen Rang, who had been so imposing while protecting his daughter earlier, was now completely drained of color, his back torn open and bleeding.
“Dad!”
Shen Mianzhi cried as she ran in from outside, rushing beneath the trellis. She dropped to her knees in front of Shen Rang, shielding him, and pleaded toward the side hall.
“Grandpa, stop hitting him! Please, I’m begging you!”
Seeing this, Shen Zhi quickly stepped in and pulled Shen Mianzhi away.
“Miss Mianzhi, the Old Master has ordered two hundred lashes—not one less.”
Shen Mianzhi cried so hard she was nearly out of breath. Ignoring Shen Zhi’s attempts to stop her, she tried to rush inside again.
“Don’t hit my dad! Grandpa, my dad did nothing wrong! Don’t punish him!”
Bang—
The doors of the side hall suddenly opened.
Shen Zhuang walked out, leaning on his cane.
Everyone’s expressions shifted slightly as they looked toward the calm-faced old man.
“Your father was gravely wrong. He deserves this punishment,” Shen Zhuang said.
Shen Mianzhi froze, staring at him helplessly.
Shen Zhuang’s expression remained indifferent. “Old Fifth, do you accept your punishment?”
“Zhizhi, this is a matter for adults. Go back,” Shen Rang said with his eyes closed. “Father, I accept.”
“Don’t.” Shen Mianzhi shook her head, rushed out of the flower hall, and dropped to her knees in front of Shen Zhuang. “Grandpa, even if Dad did something wrong, it was for my sake. If you must punish someone, punish me instead. Please don’t beat him anymore.”
Shen E wished she could tear Shen Mianzhi apart alive. With reddened eyes, she looked at Shen Zhuang. “Dad, save Lanlan! She was almost killed by Fifth Brother.”
Shen Zhuang lifted his gaze and looked at everyone in the courtyard, remaining silent for a long time.
Jiang Huashan suddenly felt her eyes sting. This was probably what Grandpa least wanted to see—infighting within the Shen family. No matter who got hurt in the end, it was like stabbing a knife into his heart.
“Dad!”
At that moment, an angry shout rang out from outside the garden. Shen Yuan stormed into Qinyuan, his face full of fury, striding through the flower hall with forceful steps.
“Dad, I heard Fifth Brother used the Dark Hall’s forces—not only injuring a teacher but nearly driving Lanlan to her death?”
Shen E wailed, grabbing Shen Yuan’s hand as she pointed at Shen Rang in rage. “Brother, he hung Lanlan from a plane and paraded her around! He knew she’s afraid of heights—he’s trying to kill my daughter!”
Shen Yuan was furious. He turned and rushed into the flower hall, snatching the whip from Zheng Song and raising it to strike.
Fu Sui’er’s expression changed drastically. She rushed in and stood in front of Shen Rang, blocking him. “Second Uncle, Grandpa only ordered Zheng Song to carry out the punishment. He didn’t say you could do it.”
Shen Yuan’s face darkened. “Move.”
Snapping out of it, Shen Mianzhi scrambled to her feet and ran into the hall, standing in front of Fu Sui’er. “The one who should move is you, Second Uncle! Even if my father has done something wrong, with Grandpa here, it’s not your place to overstep!”
Shen Yuan froze for a moment, caught off guard. Shen Mianzhi had always been timid and easy to bully—how had her temperament suddenly changed?
Shen E burned with resentment and pointed at Shen Mianzhi, cursing loudly. “You heartless wretch! Lanlan always thought of you whenever she had something good. She treated you like a real sister, and this is how you repay her?”
Shen Mianzhi lifted her head, her expression calm. “Aunt, I don’t understand what you mean! Lanlan treated me well? Yes, thanks to her ‘kindness,’ I learned how worthless my existence is. Thanks to her ‘reminders,’ I’ve lived every day in guilt and self-blame—worse than death.”
Shen Rang’s eyes froze in shock as he turned to look at Shen Mianzhi.
Shen E’s expression shifted slightly, then turned into anger out of embarrassment. “You little liar! Stop smearing my Lanlan with your nonsense!”
“Feeling guilty, Aunt? You should be. You took advantage of my youth and ignorance, threatening me not to tell Grandpa or Dad about what you did to me.”
“You’re talking nonsense!” Shen E said in panic, looking toward Shen Zhuang. “Dad, look at this—even now, they still won’t let Lanlan go.”
Shen Yuan frowned and coldly rebuked, “Enough! Who taught you to be so sharp-tongued at such a young age? Since when do children get to interrupt adults?”
“If she doesn’t have the right, then do I?!”
As soon as the words fell, Shen Jiao strode into the courtyard in her queen-like high heels.
Fu Sui’er’s eyes lit up. She quickly ran over to Shen Jiao and pointed at Shen E. “Mom, the second branch is up to no good again.”
Shen Yuan and Shen E’s faces darkened.
Shen Qingyu frowned and kicked Fu Sui’er lightly on the calf—a warning, neither too heavy nor too light.
Fu Sui’er yelped and turned around, startled when she saw it was Shen Qingyu.
Before she could react, Shen Qingyu himself was suddenly struck by a heavy kick, sending him stumbling several steps back. If he hadn’t steadied himself in time, he would have fallen into the pond.
Turning back, he saw Jiang Huashan glaring at him fiercely.
“…”
Shen Yuan was enraged and rushed forward, pointing at Jiang Huashan. “Who told you to kick my son?!”
Not to be outdone, Shen Jiao yanked the imperial-green bead necklace from her neck and hurled it straight at Shen Yuan’s face. “Who are you shouting at?!”
