Only a loud boom rang through Shen Guiling’s mind—his entire world of thought collapsed.
How could Jiang Huashan be here?!
Has that woman gone insane? How dare she?
He lowered his gaze to the point where their fingertips were touching. After a long moment, he wobbled as he climbed down from the bed.
The room had no lights. Even the floor-to-ceiling windows were tightly locked—nothing could enter except moonlight. Outside the window stretched an endless, desolate darkness.
Shen Guiling turned back to glance at the bed. It seemed Yao Ge was guarding against the Shen family finding them. They were probably already preparing to set sail at Nanwan Wharf.
There was no time left.
He quickly scanned the room and walked straight into the connected study.
The study was large. On the luxurious black-and-gold desk sat a laptop.
Shen Guiling stepped forward to inspect it. No wonder “Mr. Bai” dared to place it so openly—there was a self-destruct program installed. If the system detected any unauthorized access, it would automatically trigger destruction.
But that was no issue for him.
He only looked once before his fingers flew across the keyboard. Five minutes later, the computer returned to a normal operating interface.
Shen Guiling didn’t dare be careless. He quickly moved the mouse, his gaze shifting repeatedly between the screen and the door.
Found it.
Dark light flashed in his eyes. Just as he was about to build a data hub, he suddenly heard footsteps outside the door.
Without hesitation, he sprinted back toward the bed, snatching a fruit knife from the coffee table along the way.
Click—
The door opened at the exact moment he lunged onto the bed.
The gauzy canopy above swayed slightly.
The two people on the bed stared at each other in shock.
“……”
For a moment, Shen Guiling felt his adrenaline spike to its peak—out of pure fright.
Jiang Huashan was afraid he might shout, so she quickly covered his mouth and gestured for silence.
At that moment, a voice came from outside the door.
“Stay at the door and guard it.”
It was a woman’s voice.
Jiang Huashan quietly breathed a sigh of relief. A woman—she was temporarily safe.
Her thoughts were practically written all over her face, and Shen Guiling saw through them instantly.
“……”
Jiang Huashan glanced at him and, as if practiced, closed her eyes.
The person outside had already reached the bedside. Shen Guiling exhaled slightly and also closed his eyes.
The woman placed a medical kit on the floor and took out two injectable syringes. She first injected Shen Guiling.
When it was Jiang Huashan’s turn, the woman’s eyes lit up. She reached out and stroked Jiang Huashan’s face with interest.
“Where did the boss find such a pretty little girl? Tsk tsk tsk… what a pity…”
After sighing, she pulled down Jiang Huashan’s shoulder strap.
“Forget it, you’re still young. I’ll give you less.”
She only pushed the syringe in a small amount before pulling it out.
“Ah. What a sin!”
Just as she was about to stand up, she glanced at the remaining medicine in her hand. If it were discovered, she would be in big trouble. After hesitating, she lifted Shen Guiling’s arm again.
“I’ll give it all to you.”
Shen Guiling: “……”
“Alright. Task complete.”
The woman jumped off the bed and tossed the syringe back into the medical kit. Before leaving, she still stared hard at Jiang Huashan’s face.
After she left, neither of them moved.
About three minutes later, Jiang Huashan couldn’t hold it any longer and suddenly sat up.
Phew, that was close! She thought she had run into a female pervert.
“Hey, Shen Guiling, wake up?”
She looked around and then lay back down again, lightly pushing him.
Shen Guiling frowned slightly and slowly opened his eyes. The moment he saw Jiang Huashan, his eyelid twitched.
Jiang Huashan leaned closer and lowered her voice.
“Where is this? Who are they? Why are we here?”
Shen Guiling turned his head away, avoiding her breath. Where did this short little troublemaker come from, full of so many questions? They both woke up together—why did she assume he knew everything?
Seeing him ignore her, Jiang Huashan got angry and grabbed his face to turn it back.
“I’m talking to you! I saw you go into that room just now. Were you stealing something?”
“……”
Shen Guiling gently removed her hand and slowly sat up.
“You were already awake?”
His voice was slightly hoarse.
Jiang Huashan replied, “Not for long. I heard noises in the room and thought it was an intruder. I only realized it was you when you jumped on the bed.”
Shen Guiling pressed his injured arm. The woman had just given him two injections, and based on how his body was reacting, he could already guess what drug it was. His head throbbed.
He rubbed his brow.
“Don’t move around here.”
With that, he got off the bed and walked toward the study again.
The situation was more complicated now. It had to be resolved quickly.
He took out the fruit knife hidden at his waist and sliced his palm.
Pain snapped his focus back into place for a moment. With a cold expression, he quickly typed on the keyboard.
He was building a cloud data hub—copying all the evidence into his cloud storage. That way, even if “Mr. Bai” caught him, he could use it as leverage to force him to release them.
“Shen Guiling, what are you doing? Stealing data?”
Suddenly, the scent of strawberry cake drifted to his nose.
Shen Guiling closed his eyes briefly and pressed his injured palm against Jiang Huashan’s forehead, pushing her away.
“Stay away from me…”
