HLM – Chapter 916 The Deputy Mayor’s True Love

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 916 of 1443 19

After all, he had been partnered with Bowen for four years—they ate, lived, and played together, and knew each other very well.

It was like when Bowen saw the miniature cow and immediately knew Wang Bo would like it and bought it. Wang Bo saw the look in his eyes and understood exactly what he intended.

Clearing his throat, he asked Koci, “Warrior girl, where’s your home? What do you do for work?”

Koci smiled. “Don’t call me that. Just use my name, or you can address me as Ms. Anita. That makes me feel less like a tomboy and more like a lady.”

Anita is Hebrew for a clever, likable, and fun-loving woman.

Bowen smiled and said, “Nowadays, there are too many ladies. Tomboys are actually more appealing—more deserving of the name Anita.”

Wang Bo couldn’t hold back a laugh—Deputy Mayor here was really trying to flatter her.

So he asked, “You haven’t answered my question. Where’s your home? What do you do? The reason I ask is to see if you’d like to work on our ranch.”

Koci said, “I live in Auckland and currently don’t have a job. I’ve been doing working holidays, helping on ranches. If I could get a job here, I’d be very happy.”

Bowen exclaimed excitedly, “That’s perfect! An outstanding cowgirl with an outstanding ranch—truly a match made in heaven!”

Wang Bo thought, if Deputy Mayor had a tail right now, it would definitely be wagging nonstop at the cowgirl.

The deal was made: Koci would work at the ranch with a one-month probation period, learning to manage cattle and sheep under old cowboy Peterson, earning a weekly wage of $1,100, with a performance bonus at month-end.

After arranging this, the tourists were happy for Koci too—this salary was quite high by town standards. Besides, working in Sunset Town had become a hot job; the town offered many enviable perks.

Having accepted the job, Koci had to go to Auckland briefly. She was living there temporarily and needed to bring her personal belongings and clothing.

Once she left, Bowen immediately grabbed Wang Bo’s arm. “Quick, quick! Are there any houses available? Arrange one for me—I want to live next door to her!”

Wang Bo said, “Housing in town is tight. You see, the fourth residential area is almost full, and the fifth is under construction. Also, Koci can’t live in the regular residential area—she has to go to the cowboy apartments, as per ranch rules. Peterson and Cousins live there too.”

Bowen stroked his chin, then suddenly laughed. “Then I’ll live in the cowboy apartments too! Ha! Cousins and Darwin are my good buddies. That’s my turf—I’ll win over my beloved cowgirl!”

Wang Bo asked curiously, “You like her? Why? Is she really that attractive to you?”

Bowen said, “Why do you like Eva so much?”

Wang Bo couldn’t say it was because she was beautiful or sexy, so he vaguely said, “She’s the mother God prepared for my child. I have to follow God’s plan.”

“Same here!” Bowen said excitedly. “When I saw Koci, I knew she was sent by God to be by my side. Thank God I’ve stayed in Sunset Town for nearly four years—finally some reward!”

“Bastard! What do you mean?” Wang Bo was displeased.

Bowen ignored him and continued, “Anyway, you wouldn’t understand. You can’t comprehend how much a beautiful, brave cowgirl attracts us cowboys.”

“Why can’t I understand?”

“Of course you can’t. I don’t mean to underestimate you, but you’re not God—you can’t understand everyone’s thoughts.”

Wang Bo said, “Maybe… but I can understand Cousins and the others—they’re cowboys too.”

Bowen paused, gritted his teeth, and said, “I once learned a Chinese saying, and now I finally have a chance to use it: ‘Women are like clothes, brothers are like limbs. If anyone touches my clothes, I’ll break their limbs!’”

That same day, the cowgirl returned to Sunset Town. She clearly was very interested in Sunset Ranch. If she was telling the truth, she simply couldn’t resist the ranch’s charm.

Her luggage was simple: a motorbike, a suitcase, a backpack, and a dog.

The dog was a long-haired Scottish Sheepdog puppy, chubby and cheerful, wagging its tail at people and especially excited around food.

The cowgirl picked up the little dog that was scrabbling for food and smiled warmly. “This is my child and my good companion. Her name is Patrick Star. She’s a little girl.”

“Yes, Patrick Star. You know, from SpongeBob—a pink starfish with a rough voice, simple mind, strong limbs, always causing trouble for everyone.”

She laughed. “This little one is just like that—loud, always causing me trouble. So I named her Patrick Star.”

Bowen applauded. “What a great name! I love SpongeBob. Koci, she’ll be your good friend, just like Patrick Star is SpongeBob’s friend!”

Then he couldn’t resist teasing Wang Bo: “Look at the pet’s name—so nice and meaningful. How did you name your dogs? Zhuang Ding? Queen?”

Wang Bo laughed silently. Damn cowboy—if I had a tail, I’d make Zhuang Ding chew him. But for now, I’ll give him face and help him win this girl.

Bowen had indeed been a bit lonely in Sunset Town. While Wang Bo and Eva were living happily together, Bowen had been treated like a dog—truly unfair.

Koci was an excellent cowgirl. Hiring her was the right choice.

The next day at the ranch, she approached Wang Bo. “Boss, I heard you want to buy a batch of miniature livestock? Mini donkeys, mini cows, etc.?”

Wang Bo nodded. “Yes, I have a pasture with these animals. I’m thinking of turning it into a natural zoo—it should be great.”

Koci asked, “Have you found a source yet? If not, I can recommend one.”

Wang Bo’s heart leapt. “You have a source?”

Koci smiled. “Yes, I once worked at a ranch on the North Island that specializes in companion livestock. Patrick Star was a parting gift from the ranch owner.”

“Then the ranch owner… hehe… a good person, right? Married, I suppose?” Bowen asked.

Wang Bo was speechless—why ask that?

Koci shrugged. “Of course…”

The deputy mayor relaxed. Then she added, “But he’s divorced now.”

Bowen immediately gave Wang Bo a look. Wang Bo didn’t understand. “What do you mean?”

“Best not to have anything to do with that ranch, Boss. I have a feeling the ranch owner might have designs on Koci!”

“Get lost!”
