HLM – Chapter 873 Professional Volunteers

Happy Little Mayor 5 min read 873 of 1443 16

Two men standing among a group of women were, indeed, quite eye-catching.

A burly woman glared at them and asked, “Mayor, Inspector, what are you two doing here?”

Hani replied righteously, “Mrs. Federer, hello. Today I’m not an inspector—I’m a volunteer. I’m here to help.”

The woman curled her lip. “Don’t think I don’t know what you men are thinking. You’re here to take advantage of us women, aren’t you? Go to hell!”

Hani became angry. “Please don’t insult medicine, and don’t insult the passion of volunteers. I am a professional medical service volunteer…”

The woman puffed out her chest—Wang Bo felt her chest was twice as wide as Hani’s. This white woman was simply enormous.

He suddenly became worried: Would Eva become like this after giving birth?

People said white women—especially Ukrainian girls—were angels with devilish figures before marriage, and after marriage they turned into devil-faced dough balls.

He looked at the woman with a frown. Eva immediately guessed what he was thinking and asked with a smile, “You think that body shape isn’t very good, right?”

Wang Bo remained expressionless and said affectionately, “Darling, that figure is certainly not ideal—being too fat leads to many issues. But I love you. No matter how you change, we’ll always be each other’s angels.”

Hani was in even bigger trouble—the fat woman had locked onto him for some reason and kept nagging that he had ulterior motives as a volunteer.

The doctor came out holding some examination forms. “Why are you all gathered here? Go draw a number at the ticket machine and queue properly. Where are the volunteers and nurses? Have all the rules been explained?”

Hani finally broke free from the fat woman and walked away, calling out, “Don’t use lotion, talcum powder, skincare cream, perfume, and so on. These chemicals will interfere with the clarity of the X-ray images…”

Wang Bo went to draw numbers. If he drew anything other than No. 1, he passed it to others. If he drew No. 1, he kept it, handed it to Eva, and said, “Take off your coat and give it to me. A loose T-shirt is enough.”

Someone next to him laughed. “Mayor, is this considered abusing your position for personal gain? You conveniently kept No. 1, huh?”

Wang Bo replied seriously, “As mayor, I always uphold fairness, justice, and transparency. This time is no exception. I did give Eva No. 1—but because I drew it.”

“Aren’t you a volunteer?” asked a young woman with a capable, heroic look. She had smooth red hair, healthy tanned skin, thick brows, large eyes, and a beautiful face.

Wang Bo shook his head. “No. The inspector is the volunteer. I’m just here to help—mainly to take care of my girlfriend. You know, for this kind of activity, it’s best if family accompanies you.”

The doctor looked back strangely. “Weren’t you here as a volunteer?”

Wang Bo said, “Of course not. I’m here to learn how to detect breast abnormalities through touch. I’ll handle Eva’s examination myself.”

The doctor shrugged. “I get what you mean, but you should trust me—doctors treat patients like family.”

Wang Bo chuckled. “I trust you, but I still won’t let you do it.”

“Suit yourself,” the doctor said, shrugging again and gesturing for Eva to follow him.

The X-ray station provided shawls, towels, or cloth garments for patients. The examination area was strictly private—only female nurses were inside to prevent accidental exposure.

“If you feel uncomfortable with any posture, tell Dr. Iguodala. And if you have previous mammogram images, bring them so the technician can compare them,” Roselie instructed. “Miss Eva, come with me.”

The little nurse had finally given up on Wang Bo and had become friends with Eva. The two were now considered the beauty representatives of Sunset Town.

Wang Bo said he wasn’t a volunteer, but in reality he still had to take on the volunteer responsibilities. He and Hani started running around serving tea to help the women relax and answering questions.

The X-ray imaging was to examine the breasts and mammary glands. Wang Bo originally thought it meant simply standing in front of the machine for a photo, but that wasn’t the case.

During the exam, the patient needed to place her breast on the machine’s plate and hold still for a few seconds for the image to be taken.

Most women found the exam uncomfortable, some even painful. Of course, this was mostly psychological, and serving tea helped relieve their anxiety.

New Zealand was a developed capitalist country, yet Wang Bo found that many people were still half-knowledgeable about basic medical concepts.

The most common question was: “Inspector, the machine emits radiation, right? Could this cause cancer?”

Hani shook his head. “No.”

“Why do you sound so unsure? Do you even know?”

Hani answered firmly, “No—it won’t!”

“Then why are you so certain? Are you God?”

Wang Bo saw the inspector about to explode and stepped in to stop him. He explained, “Mrs. Filin, your screening interval is every two years. X-rays only penetrate the breast—unlike chest X-rays that pass through the lungs and bones—so the radiation dose here is very small. There is no risk of excessive exposure.”

“Mayor, when the results come out, will our information be leaked? Please understand—today’s data is very private.” Another woman approached, worried.

Wang Bo waved Hani over. “Come, volunteer. Answer her.”

Hani smiled. “Don’t worry, ma’am. Absolutely confidential!”

The woman looked at him skeptically. “Why are you so sure? Will the data go to you?”

Hani blinked, speechless for once.

Wang Bo shook his head and stepped forward. “Yes, ma’am, your privacy is very safe. All medical test results in New Zealand are highly protected. No one wants others to know if they have an illness.

“Similarly, the results of this mammogram will be notified only to you and stored in the New Zealand health database. With your permission, the screening center can also send the results to your family doctor. No one else will access the data or the original images. Your name, address, contact information—none of it will be leaked.”

Hani asked in surprise, “Boss, how do you know all this? It sounds like you’re quoting a textbook!”

Nurse Roselie nodded as well, her big eyes almost sparkling. “I work with this data every day, and even I don’t explain it as well as you.”

Wang Bo snapped his fingers and smiled casually. “Because I prepared in advance. Unlike a certain volunteer.”
