Sitting in a hand-woven rattan chair, Wang Bo sipped the fragrant house-brewed beer while watching the pedestrians passing by outside. The atmosphere was relaxed.
Eva was on a video call with Dale, coaxing her to sleep.
Dale tried every trick to skip school: “I can’t sleep, Sis. Without you by my side, I’ll definitely have insomnia tonight. I definitely won’t be able to get up tomorrow.”
Eva sneered, “Really? You have such deep feelings for your sister? If I remember correctly, we haven’t shared a bed for half a year.”
Wang Bo chimed in, “This girl used to sleep like a log. Two minutes after lying down, you couldn’t wake her even if you yelled.”
Dale’s large, bright eyes spun as she argued, “That’s because I could feel Sister’s presence… at least somewhere in the same castle. Now I can’t feel it anymore.”
“Your perception is that strong?” Eva asked.
Dale lifted her chin proudly. “Of course. I’m very sensitive.”
“What exactly are you sensing? My shadow? Or my scent?” Eva asked curiously.
Dale gnawed on her finger. “It’s… um… the shadow.”
Eva nodded. “If it’s a shadow, then my being in Wellington shouldn’t matter. Why don’t you go to my room and get a photo from my bedside table? Look at it whenever you ‘can’t feel me.’”
Dale quickly corrected herself: “No, no! Not shadow—scent! My sense of smell is very sharp, just like Zhuang Ding and the queen. I can smell you!”
Eva smiled sweetly. “That’s even easier. Go get one of my clothes and put it beside your pillow.”
Wang Bo added, “I also allow her to sleep on our bed.”
Eva shook her head. “No. I don’t allow that. If Dale changes beds, she’ll have an even better excuse to lose sleep. Right? She’ll definitely say she’s not used to a new bed.”
Dale opened her mouth, but Eva had cornered her completely. In the end, she angrily shut the laptop and ran off to bed.
Before she left, Eva shouted, “Don’t oversleep tomorrow. I’ll send the Colonel to wake you up!”
Hani burst into laughter, envious of the sisters’ bond. “When my son was little, we could never talk like that.”
“It’s much better now, isn’t it?” Wang Bo poured him a beer.
Hani took a large gulp, a smile spreading across his face. “Yes, much better. This level of relationship is good enough. I dare not ask for more.”
Listening to soft music inside the tavern, drinking aromatic beer, and eating beef from their own ranch, the group enjoyed a wonderful night.
The next morning, Wang Bo and Eva wandered around Wellington. In the afternoon, they had a gathering to attend, so in the morning they bought formal wear and had their hair styled. After dressing properly, they changed into their outfits and headed to the important event.
The hotel’s top floor was a massive room that could serve as both a conference hall and banquet hall, and the gathering was held there.
The room was lavishly decorated—crystal chandeliers everywhere, glittering ornamentation, and a fine handmade carpet so soft that even standing for long periods wouldn’t tire you.
Eva wore a short silver-gray fitted dress. The top was embroidered lace, while the skirt used tulle layers, giving her a fashionable yet elegant femininity.
The dress design featured semi-transparent mid-sleeves and an off-shoulder style, perfectly releasing her unmatched gentle charm. The skirt was cinched with pleats, with a bow at the back, highlighting her slim waist.
When she walked, the bow fluttered slightly, adding a floating, graceful charm.
But every woman attending the event had dressed up beautifully. In terms of looks and figure, Eva was top-tier, but not the only one, so she didn’t attract too much attention.
Wang Bo glanced around and muttered, “Did we walk into the wrong event? Is this a model gathering?”
There were many beautiful women—long legs, curvy hips, alluring fragrances, seductive glances—making him feel a little overwhelmed.
Eva smiled. “Clearly we’re in the right place. Look, a familiar face.”
As soon as she spoke, Wang Bo heard someone calling him: “Hey, Wang! How have you been?”
He turned and saw Mayor Huta-Sack of Auckland and his plump wife.
Not all the women present were naturally beautiful—many relied on exquisite makeup. Sack’s wife, for example: Wang Bo had seen her bare-faced. Not ugly, but nothing like her current Yang Guifei style.
Their relationship was good. Wang Bo hugged the mayor, while Eva hugged Mrs. Sack, complimenting, “Mrs. Sack, your skin looks even better than the last time we met. Your mood must be good lately. A woman in a good mood always looks more beautiful.”
Mrs. Sack’s plump face bloomed like a rose. “Thank you! I really have been in a good mood. My daughter just had a lovely baby.”
Eva’s smile brightened with joy. “The baby was born? That’s wonderful. Oh, your bracelet is beautiful—did the mayor give it to you?”
Mrs. Sack proudly showed her wrist, where a sapphire bracelet sparkled. “This was a gift from my son-in-law, to thank me for taking care of my daughter during her pregnancy.”
Eva gasped. “Wow, then your daughter truly has a great home.”
The two women happily continued chatting.
Mayor Sack patted Wang Bo’s shoulder. “You’re the one with a great home. When are you and Eva getting married?”
Wang Bo shrugged. “Uh… interesting question. We’re not ready to step into family roles yet. But if she wants to, I’d get down on one knee right now.”
“You’d better hurry. I’ve met countless girls, but none compare to Eva—looks, temperament, personality. Thank God I was born twenty years earlier, or I’d be your rival.”
Although the topic was important, Wang Bo still wanted to know the purpose of the gathering.
He asked, “Mr. Alexander told me an important announcement would be made today. You’re a core member of the Green Party—do you know what it is?”
Mayor Sack chuckled. “Do I need to be a ‘core member’ to know? Look—see those gentlemen walking around? They’re key members of the Labour Party.”
Wang Bo’s eyes widened. “So the rumors I heard were true? Our Green Party plans to challenge the ruling party?”
Mayor Sack shook his head. “No. The gap between us and the National Party is too big—we can’t become the ruling party. However… if we form an alliance with the Labour Party, they may gain more resources for the election.”
Then Wang Bo understood. The Green Party and Labour Party were preparing to form an alliance—Green would provide resources, Labour would return favors if elected. A very common political cooperation model.
