HLM – Chapter 155 A Bunch of Little Rottweilers

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 155 of 1443 12

After placing his order in the Gun City, Wang Bo shifted his attention to buying dogs and alpacas.

The ranch needed medium to large-sized dogs. Most pet shops in Ao City focused on small breeds, so to find suitable ranch dogs, he’d have to go back to where Zhuang Ding came from—the public welfare kennel.

Wang Bo brought the cowboys along to the kennel. They were driving the mighty and imposing Marauder, drawing constant stares and even photos from passersby. It was a truly attention-grabbing sight.

He had the number of the kennel keeper, Lasek, and they kept in touch regularly. When Wang Bo first adopted Zhuang Ding, they’d agreed he would give updates on the dog’s growth. But as Zhuang Ding grew healthier and stronger, Lasek gradually stopped calling—he completely trusted Wang Bo by now.

Before heading to the kennel, Wang Bo gave Lasek a call, saying he wanted to adopt a few more suitable dogs. Lasek was delighted and told him to come over anytime.

Wang Bo didn’t go empty-handed—he brought five large boxes of dog food. Although the kennel was a public welfare facility, it still needed support to keep running. As a beneficiary, Wang Bo didn’t want to be stingy.

The Marauder roared its way to the kennel. It was like Zhuang Ding was returning to his childhood home, yet he didn’t look the least bit excited.

On the contrary, as soon as he saw the kennel’s gate, Zhuang Ding shrank into a corner of the back seat, curling his big paws over his head like he was saying, “I’m not going in.”

Seeing this, Wang Bo immediately understood—Zhuang Ding didn’t have fond memories of this place. The poor pup had likely spent a lonely and hopeless time here in the past.

Wang Bo didn’t force him. He honked the horn at the gate instead, prompting a chaotic chorus of barking from within. Soon, Lasek came out to greet them.

While unloading the dog food, Wang Bo also handed Lasek a red envelope with a smile. “Buddy, this is a little something from me to the kennel. I hope it helps support its development.”

Lasek accepted it without hesitation. Just as Wang Bo thought, the kennel had no way to make money and relied entirely on donations.

According to Chinese custom, people usually put away red envelopes and gifts to open in private. New Zealanders, on the other hand, open them right away to see what’s inside.

Wang Bo had prepared a generous red envelope—5,000 New Zealand dollars in crisp new bills.

Lasek was startled. “Wang, you really are a generous guy! Honestly, I thought it would be a bunch of one-dollar notes, but you’ve completely surprised me!”

Wang Bo gestured for him to put it away and said, “Lasek, I’m not here to pick a dog this time. I want to take all your best ones.”

The kennel keeper laughed heartily. “I’d love it if you took them all! You know, they don’t live great lives here. They need a good owner like you.”

Wang Bo lifted a box of dog food and walked into the kennel. At that moment, someone emerged from one of the rooms. When they saw Wang Bo, they waved with a smile and said, “Hey, Wang! Is that you?”

To his surprise and delight, it was Eva.

The beautiful teacher looked like a janitor at the moment, dressed in a faded blue work uniform. Her hair was tied in a bun, with two locks hanging loosely by her cheeks, giving her an energetic look.

Despite the plain outfit and sneakers, her natural beauty shone through. In fact, it gave her a heroic, valiant charm, making her look even more stunning.

Wang Bo quickly waved and asked, “Eva, are you helping out here?”

Eva walked over with a cheerful smile. “Yes. Lasek and I are both members of a South Island charity organization. We often help each other out. Whenever the school needs help, he shows up. So, I return the favor at his kennel.”

As she spoke, she reached for the box of dog food, but it was heavy. Of course, Wang Bo wasn’t going to let her carry it and insisted on doing it himself.

After he set the box down, Eva thanked him on Lasek’s behalf, saying the man was a good person, just not very good at expressing himself.

Wang Bo felt a bit embarrassed receiving her thanks. If he hadn’t come looking for dogs, he probably wouldn’t have remembered to bring anything.

But Lasek didn’t mind. He was doing public welfare work and never expected anything in return.

When he learned that Wang Bo was looking for canine helpers for his ranch, Lasek eagerly made some suggestions. “I have two Border Collies—they’re very smart. I also have a German Shepherd, though he’s a bit big and might be hard to manage.”

Eva thought for a moment and said, “Actually, I have a better idea. Lasek, the Queen’s puppies are old enough to survive on their own now, right? Why not let Wang adopt those adorable little ones?”

Wang Bo perked up. “The Queen? Who’s that?”

He took Eva’s suggestions seriously—after all, she had recommended Zhuang Ding, and that turned out to be perfect. Back then, the castle had badly needed a loyal and brave super dog like him for protection.

Eva smiled. “The Queen is a Rottweiler. You know this breed, right? Not exactly cute, but they’re perfect for your ranch.”

Lasek objected, “No, Irina, Border Collies are more suitable. They’re intelligent, friendly, and alert. They’ll be excellent helpers for herding sheep.”

Eva shrugged. “But Wang doesn’t just need a herding helper—he needs a warrior to protect his ranch. You might not know, but his ranch was recently targeted by thieves. A Border Collie might bark at intruders, but a Rottweiler can fight them!”

Lasek looked at Wang Bo in shock. The latter confirmed it with a nod. He was also a little surprised that Eva knew about the theft—clearly, she was keeping an eye on him.

Seeing this, Lasek didn’t argue anymore. He asked Wang Bo to wait and soon returned with a line of chubby, black-furred puppies.

They were still young, probably just weaned. Their big heads and clumsy bodies made them irresistibly cute. Having been cooped up in their kennel for too long, they burst into playful chaos as soon as they hit the yard.

“Rottweilers need a lot of exercise,” Lasek explained. “They’re proud, intelligent, and calm. In that sense, they’re great for your ranch. But they’re also very attached to their owners. They want to follow you around all the time, which might not be ideal if you’re not always there.”

Wang Bo crouched down and called the puppies over. There were six in total, all staring at him with curious eyes. One that was slightly bigger than the others boldly approached and gently nibbled his finger before darting away.

That one moment melted Wang Bo’s heart. “I think they’re great,” he said. “Maybe adopting them is the right thing to do.”

“But they’ll really want to stick with you. Are you sure you can be at the ranch often? I heard you’re a town mayor,” Lasek said.

Wang Bo replied, “That won’t be a problem. I can manage it.”

“Okay then. The Queen’s six puppies are yours.”
