Atulu drove back and opened the car door. A group of sturdy Chinese village dogs leaped out.
Wang Bo blew a whistle, and the dogs immediately bounded onto the lake’s surface, crowding eagerly around him.
Atulu was still pretty reliable when it came to doing things. Wang Bo hadn’t given him any special instructions, but he had brought along the harnesses the dogs had used back when they were trained to pull sleds.
The moment Wang Bo picked up the harnesses, the dogs obediently lined up in front of him, wagging their tails and looking at him expectantly, waiting to be strapped in so they could pull a sled.
They had once created unprecedented glory in Alaska. Though they weren’t human and didn’t understand many things, they had a special fondness for the harnesses.
Just like guide dogs happily leading people along, animals truly cherish certain missions of their own. The village dogs were happy to pull sleds because it had once brought them honor.
Wang Bo fitted the harnesses onto the dogs. Two dogs were assigned to each surfboard, so even if they ran fast, they wouldn’t get tired.
Several children squatted nearby watching. Once Wang Bo finished, Ron shouted excitedly, “Hurry, hurry—let me get on and try!”
Wang Bo released the dogs and said to Ron, “Remember, hold this strap steady. If you want them to slow down, pull back. Otherwise, just grab the board and sit tight.”
“OK!” Ron replied happily.
Wang Bo slapped the dogs’ butts, and the two dogs immediately started running forward.
They had hard claws that could grip the ice, but their stability still couldn’t compare to running on snow, so they weren’t very fast.
That made it easier for Ron to stay seated. He shouted, “Wow! This feels amazing—just like driving a car!”
“Go, veteran driver!” Dale yelled.
She ran over excitedly and said, “Brother-in-law, I want to play dog sledding too!”
Wang Bo grabbed her in one motion and glared. “Play my ass. I’m here to drag you back to school!”
Dale panicked. “You tricked me! You taught me to lie!”
Wang Bo patted her shoulder and said with a chuckle, “Heh, brother-in-law was just joking. But you really shouldn’t skip class to come play.”
Dale said, “I didn’t skip class. We’re having activity class right now. The teacher said we can move around freely.”
“But the teacher meant freely on campus, not running out here.”
Dale spread her hands. “Maybe you’re right, but did the teacher say we weren’t allowed to leave campus? Xiao Si? Liola? Did the teacher say that?”
The kids shook their heads vigorously.
Wang Bo flicked each of them on the forehead. “Learning sophistry at such a young age, huh? Fine, you’re lucky today. I won’t argue with you. Come on, get on.”
He slapped the dogs’ butts again, and another surfboard-turned-sled shot forward.
The kids took turns riding the surfboards across the ice. Wang Bo also tried it himself—the dogs had great endurance, and even pulling him, they could still run easily.
Atulu watched and found it interesting. He chuckled and said, “Hey, boss, let me try it too?”
Wang Bo waved him over. “Sure, get on. Get on and we’ll fall straight into an ice hole together!”
Atulu laughed awkwardly. “Don’t be like that, boss. That really hurts my feelings.”
Wang Bo said, “Until you decide to lose weight, nobody can hurt you.”
The Maori brute shook his head firmly. “The world is so big—why should I lose weight?”
“Beautifully answered,” Liola said.
He himself had grown chubby now. Sunset Town had good mountains, good water, and good meat. The kid loved stuffing his face and hated exercise; his once-cute shota image was steadily collapsing.
Wang Bo and the dogs had a great time playing with the kids on the frozen lake, but when school let out and the teachers counted heads, they immediately knew the kids had skipped class and called their parents.
After receiving the call, Eva rang Wang Bo. “Dale disappeared this afternoon. The teacher says she wasn’t at school. Where could she have gone?”
Wang Bo knew there was no way to hide it, so he honestly said, “They were skating on the lake. Nothing happened—I was watching them.”
Dale’s eyes widened instantly. “Brother-in-law, are you stupid? How could you admit something like that?”
Wang Bo sneered and pointed toward the lakeshore not far away. “There were at least a few hundred people who saw us. Even if I didn’t admit it, what difference would it make?”
Eva arrived quickly. Along with her came Liola’s sister Roselie, Xiao Si’s father Doctor Yi, Anglia’s mother, Ron’s guardian, and others.
The group approached with dark faces. The kids immediately fell silent like frightened quails.
Seeing the situation was bad, the village dogs bolted, dragging their harnesses behind them like they’d grown wings.
“Get up here! What are you still standing around for?!” Nurse Roselie was extremely hot-tempered and started yelling the moment she opened her mouth.
Chubby handsome Liola shuddered. Then, quick-witted, he remembered the trick Dale had used earlier to scare Wang Bo. With wind under his feet, he sprinted toward the center of the lake. “Sister! Do you want to lose your most beloved baby?!”
The nurse jumped onto the ice and chased after him ferociously!
Wang Bo gaped. Holy crap, he was truly impressed—the girl was wearing high heels!
Liola was probably cowed by his sister’s tyrannical might on a daily basis. Seeing her chase him, his legs went soft, and with a thud, he fell flat on the ice.
The nurse grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to shore like a dead dog.
Wang Bo shouted, “Careful!”
Roselie said with a fierce expression, “Relax, I won’t kill him.”
“No, I mean be careful—your heels exert too much pressure. If you crack the ice, that’d be terrifying,” Wang Bo warned.
Seeing Liola’s fate, the other kids were scared stiff and obediently came ashore.
Eva looked at Dale’s soaking-wet clothes and frowned deeply.
Dale hurriedly explained, “Sister, don’t misunderstand! This isn’t my sweat—it’s dog pee. The dogs peed on the ice, and I accidentally touched it.”
Wang Bo: “……”
Dragged ashore by his sister, Liola trembled and said, “Don’t hit me yet. Let’s talk nicely. You want me to exercise and lose weight—look, didn’t I exercise just now?”
The nurse shouted sharply, “When I tell you to exercise and lose weight, you refuse no matter what. But now? When you’re supposed to be in school, you come out to exercise?!”
Liola said, “I’m willing now.”
“Very good. Go home, change clothes, then twenty kilometers on the stationary bike!”
Liola yelled, “The world is so big—why do I have to lose weight?!”
The nurse turned back and slapped his butt. Seeing all his little buddies nearby, the chubby kid felt he couldn’t lose face and shouted, “Ha! That didn’t hurt!”
Seeing this, the nurse sneered, lifted her foot, and jabbed the sharp toe of her leather shoe into his butt.
The chubby kid screamed like a pig being slaughtered.
